The "Official" Nintendo DS Launch Thread (NSF56k)

Uhhh...not sure how they're getting "Full Blown Story Mode" out of that. All it seems to provide is a scenario for some combat, doesn't sound much like a story mode to me. Unless they have supplemental info.

Yeah amusing how Nintendo covering journailsts liking putting words in people's or in this case websites mouths ;)

:lol

Just got home from work. Holy shit, I never thought I'd hear this:

Kid (about 10-11) seeing the DS for the first time: WHOA! TWO SCREENS! CHECK THIS OUT, IT HAS TWO SCREENS!
Other Kid: IT HAS METROID, THAT IS BADASS!

Unfortunately I fucked up this nice woman's preorder for KOTOR II, and now it's stuck in the store as store credit...

She spent $300 today getting Xmas gifts. I was as helpful as possible (doing as many discounts we allowed), but I can't believe I overlooked that. Hope she comes in. :\

Not yet:

New details on the story in Metroid Prime: Hunters have been revealed. Well, first of all - it seems that there will be a full-blown story mode. It seems to be the case that Samus discovers some form of war in the outer reaches of the Tetra system. Not much else, sadly.

The world is in peril, and samus must enter a tournament battle to reach the mastermind behind it all.

Isn't store credit placed on a card? How can you overlook placing a preorder on a card? Or am I missing something here?

I randomly found someone in Metroid today while waiting for my wife to finish Christmas shopping out at the Mall of America.

I searched for hosted games and someone that had named themselves "Justin" was waiting for people. I hopped in, and he started up. I ended up killing him twice, and he quit. Looked around and couldn't see anyone else holding a DS, but I was in a pretty open area.

Quit after two kills. Just like the internet!
Well excuuuuuuse me! My mom bought me some ice cream so I had to go.

At EB it is. I work at Gamestop. See, we had to void the transaction and start over because I forgot to mark down one item by $20. She already had preordered KOTOR II, but I didn't print a preorder slip, I printed a store credit slip (with an extra $9 on it). I had already put her first KOTOR II slip away (before we voided the first transaction), so I wrote "Kotor 2" on top of it and put it in the cash register, because no manager was helping me. :\

mine just arrived :p *kisses EMS post box* i'm quite surprised by how small this thing is...

charging now. had a go on mario 64, loving it so far.. i never realy played the original so its all new for me. i'm also stunned by how good the GBA games look on the top screen - so much clearer, like playing them on a small tv :P

I did some shopping yesterday and asked around couple of stores if they have DS in stock. The store that had most of them was a Zellers (this is in Canada), they had around 15. Another Zellers, located in a bigger mall, didn't have any, and neither did Future Shop. EB had one in stock. So it looks like it's selling pretty well here, especially in stores that see a larger volume of traffic.

Mine arrived earlier today. Those of you having problems with the touchscreen in Mario are weaksauce. It took some getting used to, but I've gotten a lot better.

The mini-games truly are mindblowingly fun.

Yeah; my friend in retail said the same thing. Her EB only had a few systems left, they were moving briskly.

Thank you for your e-mail. We are excited to hear that you purchased your Nintendo DS and that you are loving it!

In regard to your question, while the Nintendo DS does feature a sleep mode, which is activated when closing the lid during play or PictoChat, players must manually take the Nintendo DS out of sleep mode by opening the lid. The function of having the system come out sleep mode when another Nintendo DS is nearby was not incorporated into North American Nintendo DS systems because the hardware developers at Nintendo Company, Limited (NCL) did not have time to add this feature to the final product. Please note that I have not heard of any plans to incorporate this feature into future production runs.

For more details on this as they are announced, or for more information on the DS and its games, please stay tuned to www.nintendods.com.

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America Inc.

wasn't it stated that Nintendogs will use this very feature to communicate between the two units? something like if you have your unit on sleep and someone passes by with the game, your dogs will talk to each other and even learn new tricks? I thought I had read that before. That was one of the features I was looking forward to the most.

Seems to me that including the update for the hardware in the first software title to use it would make sense to me.

What annoys me though, is that none of the stores I visited have a demo kiosk where I could try the damn thing.

Trying to get a friend to pick up his.
I sent his phone this picture.

I've been to several Best Buys and Targets, and they all had them. It seems like GameStops and EBGames are hit or miss. :|

tru where i work STILL doesnt have a demo kiosk. despite our nintendo rep assured us we'd have it by the 19th...

Yeah, my camera doesn't take DS stills very well.

I haven't taken a picture of one, but I suggest:

- Natural Lighting
- Open us system so it is entirely flat

Seems to be all that Olimario did, other than have a kickass DigiCam.

Mario64 DS is most certainly NOT 60fps.

Which sucks because I could have sworn there were previews that claimed it was. At any rate, it seems to be a solid 30, which is at least a marginal improvement over the N64 version.

The framerate is MUCH better than Mario 64.
The game looks MUCH better than Mario 64.

I have some questions...
-How do I get Luigi and Wario?
-How do I get the Big Boo star on the roof of the Mansion?

Anybody seen how the GBA Video cartridges look on the DS? I would think it would be quite impressive, just a hunch.
Watching one of the Pokemon vids right now. It's as good as you'd expect. It's a little easier to see the low framerate, but the brighter colors help make up for that.

How do I get Luigi in the Ghost house?
What do I do, folks?

And how do I get the Shine in Big Boo on the top of the Haunted Mansion?

In the room that leads out to the porch, where the star on the roof is, there's a Red "!" box. As Mario, get the flower, puff up, and float up to a level that you can't see, a floor above the attic floor. There should be a picture of Luigi there. Hop in, and go through the sub-level to the end. King Boo or some shit is there. Beat him, unlock Luigi, touch your penis.

the bigger spoiler is even knowing which level he's in.
I think both are equally disappointing to read on accident. Anyways, you didn't have to remove it. There's a [ spoiler ] (no spaces) code for a reason.
