bah lik-sang is now saying that i won't get a ds until january, after saying it wud ship between dec1 and 10th. Unless I change to the japanese version which I don't want to do

bastards

Why don't you just get a japanese one?

Finally played one of these things (via the Metroid demo at Walmart.) Metroid was unplayable in what I guess is "standard" mode (shoot/look with the pen, move with the d-pad), but was much better with the pen to look/ABXY to move-style control. I'm also not too sold on having to hold the DS with one hand use the pen, but I'd actually have to hold it (not just grip it on the display platform) to really get a feel for it

Standard mode is when the game is runnin' on the top screen, and you use the 'touchpad' for mouse style controls... if 'unplayable' for you, then you must be terrible at PC fps's

side note.
DS's are all over the place here in Chicago, that's for sure.

I'm in New York I can't believe TRU Times Square had no DS

After trying many places I finaly remembered a secret place...

Pokemon Center New York

I will load my pics before I take my train back to Connecticut :)

.

You must have not read what I wrote, because I found the "buttons to move, pen and R to aim and shoot" mode much easier to play with, kind of like using mouselook and ASWD on a PC (which I can play fine, thanks.) I couldn't hit a damn thing in the mode where you have to tap the screen to fire and you use the D-pad to move

So I took the train to NY walked to Times Square - DS was sold out... after searching a few more stores I found the DS at the Pokemon Center near that famous Xmas Tree

The Pokemon Center sold out of Mario 64 DS so I had to walk back toi TRU Times Square to get that... took the train back home... I'm going to charge this thing now.

I still hate nintendo for this troublesome search

Ha, I had two friends over tonight (both girls) and they really liked the DS, both now want one when they launch over here, thanks to the Mario DS mini games.

DS rocks. I can safely say this 2 days after buying it. How long the love affair lasts is determined solely by how long I can keep playing mario DS basically. I've just about wrapped up feel the magic- it's a good game much like patrick thinks. Once wario ware comes out it'll probally be somewhat pointless to have though. Regardless, it's worth it if you are buying the system now for sure.

This thread convinced me to go ahead and buy one tomorrow at my Circuit City. They had about 10 systems there yesterday, so I might go get one before work. I hope I'm not making a mistake...

just a few words about the metroid demo.

I hadn't really spent any time with it, except for a brief test run before setting it aside to play Mario (which is truly excellent, never played the N64 version much).

My impression after attempting to complete the demo level? Horrible. If this is an indication of the final single player game, its downright awful. Sure the grpahics are pretty, and it controls well, soound pretty nice too, but its freaking boring. go from room to room, kill everything, and then got to the next room? That's it? And the boss battle is ridiculously hard, the damn enemy move to fast its just stupid. Then again, I prefer "real" world style FPS, Bond games, etc. At very least there has to be some elements of strategy.

Maybe the multi-player is better, but I dont know if ill ever get to try that.

If "the multiplayer makes up for it" for Halo, I think probably the Prime Hunters demo deserves to be given the same chance. Not saying it meets that standard, since I don't have it, but I think it's pretty clear the demo is meant to be multiplayer.

It's a TRAINING demo, used to get you used to the controls and multiplayer on the DS. It's not meant to be representative of what the single player game will be like. And unlike you I found what was presented to be Incredibly FUN. I've beaten that Demo probably 20 + times, the morph ball challenge was fun aswell. Give it another shot before you write it off like that. Also you do know there's a Combo system in the training levels right? That adds a bit more strategy...

Well I failed my mission. The 12 DS's at Circuit City yesterday were sold out today. And when I looked other places, the EB I go to had 2 display boxes out looking like they had some in, but when I inquired, they said the boxes are there to make people think they're in so they can talk them into reserving. I inquired about the two behind the counter and the dude said they're for pre-orders. I guess their 1st shipment was short, so they had to wait till the 2nd shipment to get the preorders filled. Needless to say, I feel so damn owned right now. I bet the 3rd shipment won't come until after the New Year....

feel the magic is the new best way to have some fast efficient sex

sell ur puppies, it's all over !

Miami Florida is a barren wasteland of DS. THERE IS NONE TO BE FOUND.

Any and all shipments are immediately allocated to those that reserved it but didn't get any of the initial shipments. A friend of mine who's the manager of a local R-Zone confided in me that there is a shipment arriving on the 18th of December (for some strange reason he seemed hesitant to say it, I think he's crazy) and I have a friend at GameStop who's going to try to score me one. Still though my searches have been in vain, this thing is impossible to find.

WOW! I take back everything I said about the DS controls for MP:H. I had more time to try it out today at EB, and the controls aren't that bad, and is quite fun. Also, EB said no more DS until February. :(

Holy shit, Lakitu Launch is digital crack.

Has become my new favourite mini-game. It's a lot more rewarding than the others in that you're literally missing your high-score by 1 or 2 each time and each session doesn't take too long. My current high-score is 24, though I'm sure it's easily beaten.

I was able to walk in a Gamestop last Saturday and they had 3 Nintendo DSs in stock, I was hesitant to buy it, I went to eat and when I came back decided to get it, I picked up the last one together with Mario 64 DS and Feel The Magic. I was by the same Gamestop this afternoon, the one in Town and Country Mall, and they had two more units for sell.

DAMNIT *cries*

They are sold out. That GameStop is a half hour away so I didn't check it out, that's what I get.

Thanks so much for the heads up though!

okay, i've been pretty much cycling constantly between Hitofude and Zoo Keeper.

Hitofude is just stupidly addictive. Amazingly simple idea, but an amazingly complex puzzler.
I've been playing Checkmate mode in which you are given a puzzle grip (i.e. : a grid with white and black tiles which you have to flip so that each horizontal line is of the same colour) and it's just insanely addictive.

Only problem is , whilst thinking over the solution, i've inadvertantly chewed the hell out of the top of my stylus! Gross.

Zoo Keeper - i just couldn't go back to playing this without a stylus now. It just makes much more sense. Fantastic stuff.

ew.

so zookeeper is worth the monie? :)

Hey. Please respond. Can you give an impression on this title. I want it the most I think. Also.. its dual screens and so far I've seen pics of that animal on top. Is there anything you can do with the dual screen or does it just show animal pics?

Anyone else finding their touch screen is getting a bit scratched? I've got a hairline mark which is only noticable in certain lights, and when the screen is not in use. But knowing it's there annoys me. Ordered a Hori screen protector from Play-Asia anyway.

Anyone know a way to remove these sort of markings? I read somewhere that toothpaste can help get scratches and markings off phone screens, though it may be an internet myth. Who wants to test the waters?

Zoo Keeper : it's basically the same game as the GBA version, but with much bolder and cleaner graphics and a different Quest mode. You earn cash in quest mode from your Hitler looking boss, who will sometimes dock your pay if you take too long.

Screen wise , you just have animation , quest goal and you "animal count" in the top screen. It's not really used for anything spectacular.

The biggest game play change is the fact that you now use the stylus to move animal tiles. This adds to the game massively. No longer are you scampering across the screen with a cursor. Even better, once a combo starts you can move animals elsewhere on the screen leading to some great scores.

I loved the original Zoo and this one is a good step up - it's not revolutionarily better, but it's still great. If you don't have the original Zoo , then it's definitely worth picking up (especially if it's cheap - it's 3400 yen in most stores here).

Beware that the instructions for Quest are obviously in japanese if you are importing.

just use a screen cleaner and some soft wipes and the scratches dissapear. I use a q-tip instead of the stylus and it works well.

almost bought a used ds today. would have come out to 105$. There was some minor scratches on the case and some tiny scratches on the bottom screen so I passed. Ill just buy a new one sometime in january february when games I really want are impending. (Wario Ware, Advance wars, Animal crossing)

They're still there making a mockery of me!

Bah, not that bothered. They're just annoying to look at when I'm playing a GBA game on the top screen.

They almost made Enclave.

Maybe this news has some interests to Jarrod.

Edit: Also Jump Stars will be unveiled next week.

Hmmm, is anyone else finding themselves having to recalibrate the touch screen every now and again? Slightly annoying.

sometimes I have problems with the sound, but only on GBA games. It's rather annoying and I wish I knew what the problem was.

After fiddling with it a while, I've found that the sound on GBA games tends to become a bit warped and/or static-filled when the volume is adjusted while the GBA game is playing. However adjusting the slider a bit (even right back to the same level) seems to "reset" the sound.

Could this be some random bug with any elements of the GBA hardware which are emulated on the DS?

It doesn't seem to be a big issue however, as the glitch can be fixed with a moment of adjustment.

I can already guarantee that JSS will sell boatloads of systems. It has the potential to do for the DS what pokemon and tetris did for the GBC and the GB
