Info:
You are the PROTOTYPE, Alex Mercer, hiding in human form. Step out onto the streets of New York with no memory, but limitless power.  Delve into the mysteries of your origin, the true nature of your power and your part in a conspiracy 40 years in the making.

Untangle a web of lies and rip the truth from those who've hidden it from the public for forty years. Learn of viral research and hybrids designed to push the envelope of evolution — of America's pursuit for the ultimate bio-weapon. Learn that you are not alone in your amazing abilities; that other killers stalk the city.

A secret war is brewing in New York. First, battle below the media radar, then, witness the virus spiral out of control and the government seizing the media to stop the spread of information. Finally, experience New York under quarantine as martial law is instated; igniting a firestorm of combat, carnage and death. Now you face an ever-growing army of infected — creatures warped and changed by the virus. As it spreads, more and more of New York fall under its control. The virus overwrites a creature's existing genetics; warping and changing their form into something else, something planned. As the virus gathers its army, rush to discover the secret behind it all; the one thing that can stop it all before the city falls into ruin. Against you is Project BLACKWATCH – an elite force of Army specialists ready to stop the spread of the virus at any cost. These operatives have seen it all before, and are eager to track you down and bring you in, dead or alive. They're even willing to execute the final solution in New York, if necessary. Their mandate is complete containment; even if it means everyone in New York must die.

You will struggle to define what you will become – Man or Monster. Will you haunt the city as a faceless killer or save it from the horrors of the virus?  Push your powers to the limit, and unlock the genetic shackles that hold you in check.

• Fast and Deadly Shape-shifting Combat
Reconfigure your body to the situation at hand. From Claws to Blades to Hammers to Whips, choose the right weapon for the right situation. Change to a shield or armor for defense, or use advanced sensory powers (thermal vision, infected vision) to track your enemies.

• Over-The-Top Locomotion & Agility:
Seamlessly and fluidly bound from building to building, run up walls, bounce off cars and everything in your path. Adaptive parkour lets you move freely through the open-world environments of New York City.

• Unique Disguising Abilities:
Consume anyone at anytime, take on their appearance and assume their memories and special abilities.

• Deep, Conspiracy Driven Storyline:
Wake up with no memory of the past… just mysterious powers and a link to a town in Idaho. Delve into the mysteries of your origin, the true nature of your power and your part in a conspiracy 40 years in the making.

I don't intend to open a can of worms. I know this game gets compared to inFAMOUS all the time and that multiplat games can lead to crazy shit but let's try to keep it civil here (lol). I'm interested in the game and it looks like fun. I just did this simple official thread so people getting it can discuss properly.

If you guys see any reviews, impressions or want anything else added to the OP tell me and I'll do it.

Will drop pants for Sony.
Nice thread Fuu. I hate the coverart on the box, hopefully the game is good.

I can almost see that happening, the whole inFamous vs Prototype argument is just system wars and nothing more.

Does anyone know if you can use another character indefinitely, basically as a replacement for the default model? I can not fucking stand the new main character design.

Might grab the PC version is this turns out good. I haven't seen that many reviews come out for this game. Any idea when they will start coming ?

Release day, I'd assume. It would be nice if someone could explain what the hell is going on with that, as well as what is with the lack of free-roaming, "play at your own pace" impressions and videos. After all, we do have a bunch of people from the bigger sites on NeoGAF.

Wiki lists this at the moment:

To date the game has three reviews.

The Playstation 3 version earning an 8 from Official PlayStation Magazine UK, and a 9 from PSW UK Magazine.

The PC version was scored 70% by PC Zone (August 2009) Summarising positively with "Wonderful free Roaming", "Slash people up real good", "Stunning views". But negatively with "Missions are a bit dull", "Too many features?" and "Weak visuals"
Can anyone confirm these?

Can't wait! Though I'm still worried the Australian version is censored after what the devs said a year or so ago.

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
If it sounds decent I might go with PC. I didn't like the Hulk games as much as some people did, but I like how he has a huge bag of superhero abilities. The flying and jumping and climbing seem to combine together pretty well. Hoping for good things.

Yeh PSW magazine UK gave it a 9 I know that much.

If your getting it on PS3 just import it from the UK or US. If not then disregard :p

Little is the new Big
Oh I almost forgot, does anyone know if the PC version supports the 360 controller for pc? I sure hope so :O

I'll add it to the OP then (although the score without the text is pretty meaningless).

I had a blast with Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Expecting good things from this game.

Corpse surfing ftw.

Hulk was great mindless fun. I would spend hours just trashing NYC. Prototype? Eh.

Trying to decide what to pick up between Red Faction and this.

I guess I'll wait for the reviews.

I'm taking a wait and see approach.

Nice OP, btw. I like the simplicity.

Getting a very big Crackdown vibe from this. Can't wait, pre-ordered Prototype after the last round of vids.

Speaking of Crackdown, the narrator does voice over work in the new Red Faction game. Makes me want Crackdown 2 even more!

Can't afford to import it :( Only reason I can get it day one here is store credit. An Australian games journalist said it isn't censored here, so I'll just have to hope he is right and that the devs were either talking rubbish or decided against it!

So the rent list for tomorrow:

Red Faction Guerilla (may just end up buying this)
Prototype
Tiger Woods 10
X-Men Origins: Wolverine

This is just a little "reminder" post. I also can't wait for Overlord II. The demo seemed like a lot of fun. Something the first kind of lacked for me.

To keep it on topic, Prototype seems like a great rental. It looks fun and over-the-top, but there seems to be little polish and not a lot of replayability.

Got this on the other thread, Radical Entertainment answers 20 fan questions on the game's official forum:

Answer: He dies.

Just noting a few things

Toys'R'Us is having a buy 2, get 1 free on all PS3, PS2, and PSP Games

And, I believe they are having a 20dollar gift card with purchase of Prototype

So much question is, Why is anyone with a PS3 not getting Infamous, Red Faction, and Prototype this week? :lol

Because 9 times out of 10, renting beats buying.

Toys'R'Us are doing that deal too? Thought that was Target.

Edit: Checked and it's definitely only Target for the Buy 2 Get 1 Free for Sony games. Toys'R'Us is only doing the gift card deals.

Some dude just YouTubed five minutes of random chaos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrkAiOYnRbQ

Some Notes:

- You can assume possibly any form of any pedestrian. No idea if there's a time limit, but it certainly looks like you can play as just some lady for at least an extended period of time, if not the whole game.

- The "platforming" looks pretty unelaborate and more based on gathering speed than reaching big heights. Some other things I'd read make it seem like the things standing between you and the top of one of the "Sighseeing" buildings (tallest ones have a spot at the top that contribute to an Achievement) are tons of enemies to fight on the way up.

- Buses are scared of you.

not bad.....graphics are a bit poor but the actual game play seems quite good, quite an array of abilities

might pick this up after exams

The action figure looks like ass. It had pride of place on the counter at a games store yesterday, when I was getting Red Faction. I mean, I know only a few of those figures are worth a damn, but this one looks silly as hell to me.

I'm about 17 hours in now and I really like the game, I haven't played inFamous yet but I have it at home. My gut feeling is that Prototype is the better game of the two for me.

The fast pace and crazy ass action really appeals to me.

I was extremely hyped for this game at one point, but the more I look at game play videos, recorded by real players, the more I sense that this game is too messy.

I like gore, but reading a mission de-brief that says I have killed ~1500 civilians is insane.
