The one area where PC Gaming is lacking

They are lacking in Sports games. Where console has the advantage. No NHL, No College Football and probably No College Basketball. No UFC. Everything else is good but this is what still keeps me on consoles. Anyone else feel this way does gaf even like sports games lol

does gaf even like sports games lol

I'd add in general that PC games are lacking in UI overlay options. Most games I've played default to the XBox overlay, even in cases where an original, non-PC release was a Playstation exclusive. Not the biggest deal, of course, I just like the dualshock overlay more from spending the most time with it.

No NHL.....I legit thought they stopped making those games.

Arent all the popular ones ported already.....im surprised College Football isnt on steam since it seems to be more popular than Madden....the Frostbite games should be easy to port, i guess they just dont care.

I don't even watch much sports anymore like used to. No super bowl party this year. :(
I've got this big game room with a big screen TV and nobody wanted to get together.
Sports from all over are losing viewership numbers each month.

Every single one of these games is bait monetization hell for normies. They'd have a negative effect on the platform for merely existing there.
Steam is doing just fine with all the GaaS and gacha games they have there. Sports games would have no additional effect.

If they still made good sports games, I'd be a little more up in arms about it. The days of NBA Jam, Baseball Stars 2, Neo Turf Masters, etc. are loooooong gone.

Sports games are some next level shit when it comes to monetization though. They're +full priced games with the worst kinds of MTX and gambling pay-to-win mechanics AND they've even been including ads on their games.

The only sports I'm interested in are motor sports and martial arts. PC gets those too.
I actually had no idea there was no NHL on PC, googled on it and is it true that the last one was NHL09??

You are correct OP. Personally I want to see CFB and NHL get ported. Just having PC UI for these games instead of the god awful laggy ass menus would be a massive upgrade. Also not being on PC really nerfs the online play, because Im not paying a console online tax for 1 game.

I think it's because of the modding scene.

Why buy NHL 25 when you could just play NHL 24 and mod in stuff from 25 like the team's composition and whatever other stuff changes between releases?

You think you want this OP but you don't.

You really want to get into a fifa match with a guy hacking?

Cheating on PC would ruin any entertainment these games hold online. They are safe on console now. PC would introduce cross play and immediately shit it all up.

I have never seen someone who is into sports games play anything else. Why would i want these fuckers to come to pc? PC needs bloodborne. Thats a real game not some madden FIFA BS.

That's the only thing. But it is still a missing apart of gaming that's missing on PC. Especially if your a sports fan and want to game on PC.

Tons of great motor-sports titles on PC though. Also VR sports like Eleven Table Tennis, The Thrill of the Fight, Kayak VR and other active games that aren't technically sports but still great. And you can emulate all the ace 90s-00s classics. Also Football Manager, the ultimate sports game for many. Also Rematch just released. Also tons of more niche stuff like all kinds of cycling simulators, tennis and other stuff. It seems like it just lacks a couple specific sports/series you're into rather than the whole field of sports. But you aren't gonna consider this, just the posts you're comfortable attacking.

Ok but that's a game you like. TBH I don't care for bloodbourne and I don't like souls games like that. Plus you can already play Bloodbourne using the shadps4 emulator.

It has FIFA and Formula 1, the only sportss game that matters to the rest of the world, why would anyone outside of the US give a fuck about your college football or little league hockey?

I personally know 4 people who would immediately buy CFB if it was on PC just so we could make our own private league. You don't have to play with randos in these games.

I'm just pointing out the option if someone wants to play these games in the US and can't because they need a console to do it.

Those games are already full of cheaters though. They're called "premium players"

The defensiveless is a little weird. I don't like most sports games myself, but I don't see how popular games not being on PC is somehow a good thing.

They can be, or you can just ignore the monetization.

EAFC has a fantastic careers mode. It also has a load of online modes that don't require you to buy any add ons.

What you're thinking of is modes like Ultimate Team, but those are optional. At least with EA sports games anyway.

Besides. Most of these games are already on PC and have been for years. I don't see any negative impact to PC players from having these games on the platform.

Think of it like this. Would you want your console of choice to have Candy-Crush and Clash-of-Clans appearing all over the front store page when you load it up? That's how i, and probably many others, see sports games as.

That said, as it was pointed out PC does have a lot of these games. They're just fractionally popular compared to their console versions, which might explain why others don't get ports.

It's not like they'll advertised on the front page 24/7. Many games/genres I don't enjoy are already on the front page of steam or console stores, big deal. Games should still be available on all platforms as far as I'm concerned.

It's less that i don't enjoy then and more that current sports games are a scourge of the gaming industry flag-bearing the worst and lowest of the practices within the medium. I wouldn't care nearly as much if they were just normal sports games.

I can live with that. Sports games are even more boring than the sports they're based on, and those are all boring as hell already.

I could say the same about games like CS that are constantly on the front page and are extremely popular. Seems like people really like virtually gambling with their money, I say give them what they want.

I also wonder if this will change since Microsoft is doubling down on PC. I'm sure these devs are going to look to PC and PS5 to get some of that base.

Because there's no market on PC for them. American Football, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey and so on, are primarily American Sports and they sell a very big portion of their units in North America. And PC in US is a no no and console is dominant as hell. I bet FIFA as the smallest piece of their units sold in USA. If you will evaluate the sales on PC of those that are on steam, you will consider them flops, like last DOOM.
