Is this movie really that great? I have a friend who's real religious and when I, and some of my other friends, declined an invitation to go see it with him in the theaters he took great offense. We've opted out of other movies before but for some reason he got heated and as he slammed the car door said, "We go and see stupid shit like Tuxedo all the time, but now that a good movie's out no one wants to go see it!"
Your friend needs to take a chill pill. I guess his point was he goes to see movies with everyone else that he probably doesn't want to see, so he thought everyone should have sucked it up and saw the movie that HE really wanted to see. I still think he over-reacted though...he got to see it, why should he care if noone else wanted to watch it with him?

Edit: I took it to heart when he called Tuxedo "stupid shit" BTW.
At some points, you'll be wondering what the Pharisees are yelling, but you will never know. Because they didn't subtitle it. This was not a deliberate choice.
I forgot to respond to this specific point earlier. There is a scene where they say "Let his blood be on us and on our children!" That is an actual verse in the Bible (Matthew 27:25) and Gibson originally had it subtitled. But then the claims that the movie was anti-sematic came out because of that line, and Gibson's distributer pressured him into removing that subtitle to try to deflate some of the hate. The line still exists in the movie, but they made the deliberate choice to remove the subtitle.
No, it was painful. As was Jackie shaking his butt in the dude's face......as was the deer pissing in the river to open the movie....as was....umm, everything in the whole damn movie.
Perhaps.
I need to clarify my point - there's a difference between labelling a group as a denomination and as a different faith altogether.
There are some things the Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican, Methodist, Mennonite, etc [what most people would define as Christian] churches clearly "draw the line" on. The divinity of Christ is one of them. If you don't believe that, then you're a different faith.
Actual tally for number of theatres is 954. I think this could do quite well and by the time this re-release is said and done, the movie should be over $400 million. I expect in time it will surpass Titanic as far as the non-adjusted for inflation chart goes.
