360 controller would be perfect if you switched the positions of the d-pad and left analog...and made the d-pad not suck. i'd also prefer face buttons with flat surfaces.
 
Nights Pad for the WIN!!

Just slap another stick on the right, add some shoulder buttons (and keep the should triggers) and you have the best controller ever for any game, fighters included.
 
I too think the ultimate contoller would be a DS2, with a better dpad, and 2 triggers for L2 R2. I'm so happy sony hasn't flipped the dpad and analogue for the ps3 controller.

Wireless, lightweight, comfy, lengthy range, and a great d-pad for Street Fighter Collection 2 (or Capcom Classics, if you prefer).

Wow, I agree wholeheartedly with Olimario. I still don't understand what Nintendo was thinking with the button layout.

I know the Logitech Xbox wireless controller gets a lot of shit, but its all I use for the Xbox. Like the PS2 one, its lightweight and its got great range. The only issue I have with it is it buttons...they feel "flat" and hard...like there is no give to them.

I can never understand people that think the PS2 left analog stick is in an ideal position. Having your thumb vertical as opposed to horizontal is so much more natural. I tried playing Tiger Woods on a DS2 after playing it on Xbox only and sliced everything. Not to mention FPS games lick ass with that config....totally unnatural. I don't think anything will top the 360 pad. The wavebird was my fave this gen but I've never played with anything as comfy as the 360 controller.

We'll see with the REV but Sony does not have a track record for awesome controller design. Just the opposite IMO

The GC z trigger is the most akward thing on a controller today - the black and white buttons on the s controller come close though

It's great for grapple in smash bros, but year, it's a little awkward for other games.
 
I personally think if you rounded the triggers of the DS2 into the the sides of the controller, it would be very conformatible.
 
The Gamecube Pad Shell, L and R buttons and the Joysticks untouched, with the GBM/DSL/Rev D-Pad, and two triggers like Xbox360.

I find no loss of control with the sticks as they are with the ds2, and i had a DC and a xbox for a while. What i know for sure is that having the dpad lower makes it totally useless for anything fast paced.

Its a trap.

I'm loving that big d-pad wavebird. Makes so much sense since there is all that extra room WTF Nintendo.
