Really interested to hear the Project X Zone talk, I hope Mike played it. I'd also like to know how many pillows featuring the females of PXZ Phil has.

Oh, please. I just have Ulala (PM sent to Wario64), Mega Man X, and Mr. Driller pillows.

...is Mr. Driller in Project X Zone?

New Super Luigi U sounds good. I wish the retail version was coming out this month. Good thing its in August though, I'd hate for Luigi to get crushed by the one-two punch combo of Wii U's July releases - The Smurfs 2 and Turbo

It is really, really good. NSMBU and NSLU are the most fun I've had with sidescrolling platformers in a while. The levels are so short that 100 seconds, while it might cut things close occasionally, is more than doable. I dunno that it's a great $30 retail game, but...*shrug*

Do I need to finish NSMBU before playing the Luigi game? If I don't will I still be able to follow the story? I'm only to the Starry Night level in Mario and I don't want too much spoiled.

your NSLU twitter defense with Jeff Grubb should've been on the show. That was some passionate tweets.

Aw, Greg, there's no appeal to you in picking fun obscurities? Valkyria's characters wouldn't have been unfamiliar if it had come out here, but they (mostly) made GREAT choices for lesser-knowns. As a Street Fighter person, surely you have to be sick of Ken within his own game series. Why would you want him around in a different one?

Better that they chose Side Arms Hyper Dyne Robots, Weird Guy From House Of The Dead Spinoff, and People You May Remember From God Eater, Possibly. Experiencing them outside of games where they didn't get much attention can help add interesting flavor to the game you're playing and color your impression of them in their native series.

This is also the primary argument for why Waluigi is number 1.

FYI Greg, Project X Zone has a Crosspedia which is good cuz there's a lot of Namco guys I'm not familiar with.

With no one else playing it, it would've just been me stumbling through "guys, this is an awesome game! That 100-second limit is nothing!" Seemed like the 100-second limit was a dealbreaker for Stewy, Mike's not gonna be playing a Mario platformer, and Phil's waiting for retail.

I agree with Jonny Metts on NWR that the 100 seconds is nothing and the game encourages and rewards you for running through a level without slowing down. Remembering that it's a DLC pack it really makes all of NSMBU a whole new experience - much akin to playing the Challenges levels. Though spread through the whole game. Jeff Grubb's review discounted all the things Nintendo has done in the game to make it a new/different experience and focused only on the 100-second time limit which I believe is key to push you to play this game the way Nintendo wanted it to be experienced.

It's very easy to bag on Nintendo for putting out 2D Marios but man if the level design since NSMB2 hasn't been so amazingly good.

I really like the demo for Project X Zone but felt the same way, I have no idea who any of these people are. I recognized the Valkyria Chronicles and SF people, that's about it. Some of them looked like they might be Phoenix Wright characters? I don't know, I was baffled. Then I went into the Project X Zone OT and realized that this is definitely not the game for me. The folks in Nova Scotia probably love it though.

Pete Dodd blew-whistles, dropped-bombs, and spilled-beans

I don't think he pulled the 'I know something you don't know' tactic.

Here 'tis:

The Last of Us: Spoiled in 60 Minutes

Join Mike, CJ, Greg and Phil for an hour and 40 minute discussion of Naughty Dog’s PS3 action-adventure title, The Last of Us. It goes without saying that we will be spoiling major plot points in The Last of Us in this podcast, but there are also spoilers (some minor) for a few other games/movies/etc.: The Walking Dead (game), Bioshock Infinite, The Road and No Country For Old Men. If you have not played any of The Last of Us yet, what are you waiting for? Get on that, and then come back and listen later.

Where can we discuss this?

Unless we invade the Spoiler thread which is pretty much deep with almost all of the points made in the podcast.

You can just use spoiler tags and discuss the episode in this thread. The episode was great, by the way, and I'm thankful you didn't spoil anything important about The Road and Bioshock Infinite. I still haven't experienced those.

My thoughts:

I wanted the operation to happen. I actually stood there for a good minute in the operation room waiting for the game to give me an option to let it happen. Mind you i didn't find the doctors recorder. But I don't know if that would have swayed my decision.

You can see a giraffe on before you get to the room. When you cross the bridge on your way there you can see one of them. I noticed on my second playthrough.

I expected a more bleak ending. I know this is no roses and candy. But I would have been more impacted if you could see smoke coming out of tommy settlement at the end and then cut to black. Then it would have been all for nothing. I know that there's no way to tell if things would have been fine with tommy's people, but it feels like they are going to be ok. Which couldn't be farther from the truth.

I wonder if Ellies demeanor on winter had more to do with her feeling that Joel was going to try to dump her again when they reached the hospital.

Last of Us spoilers
I find some peoples justifications (other than to save Ellie) for not wanting the procedure to happen to be missing the point. Like the idea that they likely would not have been able to make a vaccine, or they would keep the vaccine for themselves in a political move. If you start to go down roads like that the ending is sort of pointless.

The Last of Us
The point of the ending is to illustrate how Ellie and Joel have changed over the course of this journey. The infection, vaccine, curing mankind or things like that were never the focus of the game, it was always about Joel and Ellie.

Will discuss last of us a little later, after I finish the episode, which was the worst case of false advertising since The Neverending Story.

Spoiled in 60 minutes? Try 100, JERKS!! ;)

We greatly exceeded our Kickstarter goal, so we expanded the scope of the podcast.

More like you talked about The Last of Us for 60 minutes and Bioshock for 40. :p

It was a really good episode, enjoyed it very much.

I had only listened to the first 20 minutes or so before the whole Ryan Davis thing derailed my day, but... maybe I'm just a cynical bastard,
but the introduction was laughable to me. It was as bad as when the kid died at the beginning of Heavy Rain in terms of being choreographed emotional manipulation.

Walking Dead ending spoiler:
Not that I think The Walking Dead is the greatest thing ever, but it took more balls to kill Lee off instead of Clem.
