The Player 1 Podcast Topic

Maybe just say no sometimes Kevin, you don't need to be on every show (I'm not sure if the guys ask you, or the other way round) . It's obviously very difficult filling a certain void, I doubt many could step in like you do and be as well received as Mike is.

There's just a very particular chemistry, a mix, a hard to put your finger on je ne sais quoi that can't be replicated within' that core group that people have grown very attached to, or... not really attached to or completely indifferent to.

It's good that you're an open book with the criticism, it can and will only help to improve your presence on the show, but maybe sometimes less is more.

Rich does a great job.

My only real problem with Kevin is that he doesn't dislike anything. So the moment he starts talking you know what he will say.

I am at a point in my life I only play great games and/or games I want to play. I don't push through games I am not having fun with. I am super selective of what I play.

Been pretty critical about Triforce Heroes (and most of Nintendo's output this year outside of Mario Maker and Splatoon. Haven't played XCX). And if I don't understand someone's love for a game I dislike, I am still not comfortable enough to shit on their tastes (especially if I haven't played a game).

Totally hear you and it makes perfect sense. At the end of the day if they ask me to come on, I am going to say yes. I always have a great time talking with these guys. Also I am not going to try to fill the hold of Mik personality wise.

Again, thanks for the feedback everyone. Every time I am on the show my goal is to make it enjoyable and informative. I really appreciate you guys being positive about the feedback.

And I always appreciate the tweets and comments (and I get a decent amount) from listeners saying they enjoy the episodes that I am on. I will do my best to improve each show.

Rich is zzzzzz. Pretty much exclusively plays either sports titles or whatever the P1P hosts are playing.

Kevin has talked plenty of smack about Nintendo (hardware and VC). Besides Mike, Kevin brings game variety to the show when the other hosts stick to what they traditionally like. Disappointed Greg doesn't go in-depth with the retro games he plays when Kevin has no problem (unless Greg is saving that content for G16).

I didn't say you liking everything was bad. I said it made for boring conversation.

We can talk about how bad WWE is if you want ;)

But seriously, do you want the hosts to play bad games to just bitch about stuff? If so, I am the 100% opposite. One of the big reasons I stopped listening to most gaming podcasts is because of all the overreacting negativity and snarkiness about stuff.

It's possible to be critical of the games you like. It adds depth to the discussion.

Totally agree with you, I didn't want to come off to critical but I do enjoy the passion and positivity that you bring to both BimP and P1P. The negativity and snarkiness that surrounds video game discussions on podcasts, twitter, or forums is one of the things that holds the medium back when compared to other forms of entertainment. I use to be a big fan of the CAGcast and I stopped listening to them for the same reasons you describe.

Was he wrong?

Well I like it anytime you do your Phil thing, it leads to some of the funniest moments on the show, but regardless, I can see how some might think he was right... it sounds petty but it came off as a bit disrespectful since he is a guest. Also I don't think I've heard Kevin insult anyone else on BimP or P1P, guess that's why it stood out.

Think you're overthinking it a bit here man. I've lost count of the times I've called my friends an asshole or the equivalent of. Especially if they're deliberately trying to be annoying.

Haha, kind of what Rodhull said. It is because I am comfortable with this guys as friends. Like Phil is cool with giving me crap about stuff I am talking about and I jokingly called him an asshole. It was a positive/endearing asshole, not a negative asshole.

I tune into this podcast for the humor more now than anything. Without Mike it just kinda turned into the Nintendocast.

Not a criticism, it's their show, but as someone who has no nostalgia for Nintendo it's just kinda boring to me.

That "Hitler" from Phil had me rolling.

For what it is worth, i stopped listening to a lot of podcasts because of dumb wrestling, anime, and bad movie talk. But, also, I think you aren't just 100% positive like that one guy back on the old 1UP Yours replacement with Garnet who "loved loving things" or whatever it was.

But all will be forgiven if you do a Back in My Play episode of Bully so maybe CJ plays a few minutes of it and the damn Game Club can be done with and a new, shorter game picked. :P

Kevin's a nice guy who seems genuinely passionate about video games and expresses himself well (when he's not flipping out about master race jokes, haha). Hard to ask for more than that. Keep up the good work man.

Haha. Bully isn't retro yet I don't think.

Side note, opened up Badge Arcade and spent $1. I am sorry I let so many down.

Thanks!

To balance out the negativity, just wanted to say I really enjoy having you on the show Kevin. Now I am slightly biased as your interests do cross over with mine in a big way (namely Fast & Furious and Wrestling) but the point still stands I think you've been entertaining.

The Nintendocast? Really? I'm not sure where that's coming from :)

Hey Rich! When are you coming back on P1P? I hope soon, I hear Kevin Larrabee needs a break!

P.S. Some people here think you're boring since you only talk about sports games but I don't care.

No Phil, thank you. :P

I know i rarely post in here, but thanks for all the shows last year.

Also tonight's pretty funny.

Wanted to quickly say thanks to all of the support and constructive feedback you all have given me for my guest appearances on the show this year. It is always incredibly fun to talk about games with those guys and the show we did last night was one of my favorites.

Thank you! Have an outstanding start to 2016...and go play Persona 4 Golden ;)

Seeing Mike's list in writing makes me wish he was on the show to talk about those games. As Phil pointed out though, Mike did talk about Star Wars Battlefront last time he was on, and made a rarely heard argument in favor of that game's single player.

We should do a top 5 episodes we wish Mike was on this year.

For those who think I was kidding about Badge Arcade:

Great episode, that was fun to listen to.

So, MGS V. When you start that game up it gives you a bunch of messages. One of them recently was "spend some MB coins to win a bonus". So I tried to do that (the game gives you some MB coins for free) and I couldn't figure out how to do that at all. Seriously, I couldn't figure out how to engage with the F2P crap in that game. I think the complaints are overblown.

Personally I have two problems with MGS V: a couple of missions were awful, like really annoying and poorly designed. Probably the worse escort mission I ever played. Second, the tone of the game is all over the place. The previous games took themselves seriously in this crazy over the top and fun way, this one is a little weird. The serious stuff feels pointless in the disjointed story and the times it tries to be funny just come off as someone trying too hard.

And Kevin. I like you on the podcast, I think you're an awesome dude full of great energy and I really enjoy what you bring to the table when you're on the show. But please, pretty please stop it with the "...on PC". I know you mean well, you're trying to warn people, but it's not helpful to anyone. People know your $1200 high end PC can run games better than a $300 console. For example CJ told you a few episodes ago that he was just fine with JC3 on console. But now I think you talked more about playing the game on PC than the game itself. Come on dude. (Also the latest patch did improve load times significantly, but you wouldn't know that because you don't actually have the game on consoles. That's the problem with relaying hearsay from the internet).

In terms of performance I mentioned PC vs Console for two games. Just Cause 3 and Fallout 4 (and to a lesser degree AC:Syndicate).

I respectfully disagree for a few reasons. First, shouldn't I let the audience know which platform I am playing the game on? Isn't that relevant? Today, between the console (and also between ONE/PS4) and PC versions there have been significant performance issues.

Also a bunch of big games came out this year on consoles this year and had serious framrate issues. Multiple threads on Just Cause 3's issues have been made in the last few weeks with a new one yesterday (which we can assume has the latest patches). http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1165338. If CJ is OK with it, that doesn't mean that he speaks for everyone.

Giantbomb (as well as multiple other outlets) docked Fallout 4's score on consoles for it's issues vs the PC.

Not getting your game to run at close to 30fps today is something we should not be OK with. That is why I think it is significant for me to preface conversions about the game we are playing with the platform. And trust me, it isn't to gloat, if anything from a few weeks back you know I hate the "PC Master Race" bullshit.

Well, Fallout 4 gets docked a lot of points for being shitty in multiple ways, really. Godawful writing. Lack of effort in a lot of different systems.
