The Player 1 Podcast Topic

Lot of angst in the episode.

I don't think anyone expected much out of CJ, but it felt a bit insulting of him to not at least finish Gargoyle's Quest. Not a long game, and while there is a difficulty hump in the beginning, the game gets easier progressively.

Need Ford around to get a decent discussion on Gears 3 with Stewy :(
 
This week's conversation about region locking was a bit weird. How could you forget about importing Giana Sisters DS Phil? There are still a lot of games in English that don't make their way across the pond. A few recent examples are Inazuma Eleven (DS) and four out of the five last entries in the Shin Megami Tensei series (DS/3DS/PS2).

I do love me some Giana Sisters, of course, but in recent years that and the odd Taiko no Tatsujin game have been the only games that I've imported. Heck, Giana Sisters was the last game that I imported, and that was two years ago.

Like I said on the show, the ability to play imports simply isn't a selling point for me these days. The vast--vast--majority of games that I'm interested in make it out over here. I also don't have time for RPGs these days, so I'm not terribly concerned about the two (well, five) examples that you give (along with, oh, say, Xenoblade Chronicles). I'm sure they're all great games, of course, but I know that I would never play them.
 
This week it sounded like everyone was sippin on their haterade, seemed like no one even wanted to do a show. But nonetheless it was still good and lol at CJ not finishing the gameclub game, whats new ;)
 
Sometimes I import games that I know are coming out here, but I don't want to wait for them...

One quick thing about the latest episode I wanted to mention is that you can play the Ratchet demo single player. Just start a game as a host, set it so only your friends can join and instead of waiting for anyone to join the game just go ahead and start it. Just don't be boring and pick Ratchet as your character, Qwark and Nefarious a funnier.

But speaking of this, I wonder why you guys never seem to play games with each other in coop. Is recording the podcast all the time you bear to spend with one another? :p

Wives, kids, jobs, and time zones make it tough enough to schedule two hours each week to make the podcast. Trying to find coordinating times for another hour or two of gaming is generally more trouble than it's worth.

Have you ever had a pregnant wife? :)

One of the other issues is we don't always play the same games. Gears of War 3, for example, would be a great co-op game for us. Unfortunately Phil and CJ really aren't all that interested in it.

I hope we all end up playing All 4 One, though.

Don't...not knowing is half the fun!
Babies are totally neutral when it comes to colors and clothes for at least the first 6 months of their lives.
The wait is worth it...trust me!

Although we have no intention of turning the kid's room all pink or blue, we're still keen on finding out what it is. We've already picked up some sweet Star Wars, Ghostbusters, and Back to the Future shirts for the kid, which--in our household--are unisex outfits.

Semi-related note: I totally finished the BTTF games tonight, so Greg and I can talk about them (finally) when we record tomorrow.

Oh, I'm sure the child will be referred to as such quite often, even if the name isn't on his/her birth certificate.

I also tried my damnedest, but I couldn't talk the wife into using the middle name "Guybrush" if it's a boy.

Worst thing about the other half being a gamer I guess, you can't sneak game related names past her, shes too cluey on them.

Great episode. I may actually drop the money on Burnout Crash based on the discussion. I hated the demo for all the reasons CJ and Phil pointed out. If the actual game picks up the pace, energy, and excitement, I could dig it. (though waiting for it to be on the iPad does seem like the most logical decision)

Was very painful....

The game is not brown...

The berserker is not that hard...

The game is not broish enough, because they call the lambent glowies....

Complaining about a sequel being a... well... sequel...

I'm very disappointed at steward...

Le sigh...
 
I wasn't so much complaining that it was a sequel. I accept that nothing was going to change too much. I was complaining that, after a strong start, the game makes a disappointing run back to the bog-standard experience and setting.

The the 'zerker is extremely frustrating in four-player co-op. Not so much with fewer human players. I think I said that during the show :)

I guess I kind of would go into this expecting it - the hosts usually let the games defeat them instead of vice versa.

I think that would be applicable if I was complaining that Gears of War isn't enough of an RTS for my tastes. But I'm not saying that. I'm saying I want more creativity within the confines of the game's genre - specifically set pieces and mechanics. GoW3 flirts with this. That's what makes it more disappointing when it reverts back to "arena with waist high cover, transition corridor, arena with waist high cover" all the time.
