Good show this week. I originally passed on Daytona (since the GT5 update dropped, I didnt feel the need for another racer) but I may have to buy it after listening. You guys play on PS3 or Xbox?

New ep is up

This week! The biggest news of the week might’ve been the trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, but instead of talk about what’s far in the future we talk about what’s in the now. Namely, Uncharted 3 and Sonic Generations. Plus some other stuff and books. But not Grand Theft Auto. So if that’s what you want, we’re sure there are other podcasts that’ll give you that. This one is all Uncharted and Sonic.

Poor CJ. Gets attacked for buying two copies of Burnout Paradise just minutes after Phil and Greg confessed to owning 10+ versions of Sonic.

THE BEST PODCAST!! <3 y'all

On a completely unrelated note. Every time somebody says "Unkarted" I want to punch them in the face sooooooooo badly. Kind of like when somebody says "Xbox 720"

I think I'll check out Jpod, I loved Microserfs.
It's a pretty good read. It starts to veer off into a strange direction, but it remains entertaining. They (they = Canada--strange place, that) also made a TV series out of it that you can find fairly easily if you're resourceful on the internet. It's... not very good.

maaaan I got crazy podcast backlogs these days!!

I just finished the episode after Weddingcast 2 where CJ said he was on Touch Arcade podcast,

and I was like huh wait isnt that Brad Nicholson does that show?!?!

I've never listened to it, but I am a big fan of Electric Hydra and man it's like surreal to hear CJ and Brad on the same cast!!!

lol this whole time I thought Brad was a P1P biter (even tho I still love him!) but it's cool to see the mutual respects!

Episode 264 (11/14/11) – Sexy Maternity Ward
http://www.playeronepodcast.com/2011/11/14/episode-264-111411-sexy-maternity-ward

This week! With CJ away rearing children, the boys bust the 1-hour rule to bring you a huge ‘cast. Games discussed include: Crysis 2, Super Mario 3D Land, Batman: Arkham City (Spoiler alert), Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (Spoiler alert), Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Shinobi 3DS, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, and Need For Speed: The Run. If that’s not enough, you also get engaging discussions about diaper changes, the coolest things we own, sexism in the maternity ward, and California Marriage Law!

Sewart keeps asserting that third party games never did very well on the DS, but that's just not true--for Japanese games. As he pointed out, the "big" games on DS sold, but, contrary to his assertions, that was not an insubstantial amount of software. Beginning with the remake of Final Fantasy III, Japanese third parties saw that if they released high quality portable games on the DS, then people would buy them, so they kept making them. Western publishers never really capitalized on that wave with quality games of their own, and instead flooded the platform with horseshit. There are obviously noteworthy exceptions, but I think it's safe to take it as a broad trend that Western third parties don't care about dedicated handheld platforms. The advent of smartphones has given them even less of a reason to care. It's my belief that the upcoming release list demonstrates that the 3DS will continue this trend: Japanese third parties are making big games in popular franchises like Resident Evil, Kingdom Hearts, and Monster Hunter, while Western companies are porting Rayman 2 for the sixth time or not supporting the platform at all. So yes, the 3DS will have good third party support--from Japan.

Sewart's belief that there will not be any multiplatform games between the Vita and the 3DS is also incorrect. Several have been announced, and this is beyond the sorts of games that are on every platform in existence like the Lego games. One of Level 5's new games is on both platforms, as is the sequel to 999.

I know this post makes me sound like an annoying asshole, but Sewart's said this like three or four times. Now Nintendo consoles, on the other hand, I would be worried about getting third party support. The 3DS, however, should be fine.

This week's episode is great, loved the extra time and the extra nonsense. This is still the most natural-sounding Skype podcast I've ever heard.

Nintendo consoles occupy the terrible 'Middle Ground' that western publishers are so afraid of. If it isn't a 69p app or a blockbuster with 2 million sales potential they don't want to know. Japanese third parties will support the 3DS, but given how western tastes have shifted, that might not be much of an asset.

Anyway, the games you expect to sell, will sell (Sonic, Kingdom Hearts etc), but Nintendo are still in a bit of a pickle. If only they had a decent online store...

Ironically, I found out about Jeremy Parish from his Xenogears review trolling attempt. I think he has a bit more flame-baiting personality than people give him credit for, but that has mostly been given up to just not seeming to care anymore. He did give the first Prinny game a good review and that game was pretty darn hard. Either way, I enjoy more of his retro cover in games, and he is entitled to whatever opinions he holds (even if some of them are sort of poor in their reasoning imo)

Mik and Stewy didnt finish Batman.

Phil didnt finish Uncharted 3.

I would like one of them done for next week so I can listen to real spoiler talk....

Batman will be finished by me fo sho.

But, cut me some slack--I finished TWO games this week.

I'm sure I'll be done Batman this week.

I may be done Crysis 2, as well. And what I mean by that is I might just send it back.

I hate every part of your body right now. Even your crotch, which I am normally quite fond of (if a little underwhelmed).

Kids and wives demand a lot of the time that would otherwise be spent gaming. For me, a game that lasts 40+ hours is one that lasts multiple months, and I'm not totally crazy about playing one game for that long.

I don't understand the whole "I only want a 10 hour Zelda game" at all.
The best Zelda game
(A Link to the Past)
only takes about 10-12 hours to complete. There is still ample exploration and puzzle solving in that game without a bunch of added fluff and filler. In the time it takes to finish that game, you're barely out of the introductory "here's how to play" bits of Twilight Princess. I'd rather play a tight, 12-hour Zelda game than a drawn-out, poorly paced game that goes on for 50 hours.

And like Sewart said, wives, kids, and jobs can make you less tolerant of games that go on forever for the sake of simply going on forever.

When you have a baby, is this podcast gonna be even shorter? :(

I just need to teach these guys how to ignore their wives and children. I am a subject matter expert.

Thats never the answer

One day these men will discover the true path, one paved with children doing your grinding for you in RPGs :)

You want to go fishing with Daddy? Great, heres the controller, feel free to craft them into a nice potion when you're done

Oh, I have platinum trophies in Hannah Montana: The Movie: The Game: The Experience and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Daddy didn't earn those, I promise you.

I think I ended-up putting 50 hours into Twilight Princess. I don't have a total number for Wind Waker but I remember breezing through it in about a week. WW definitely felt pretty streamlined; probably because a third of the game was missing.

I had to turn off the podcast after hearing Nintendo's manual betrayal. Why even bring new children into a world as dark as this?
