we have had this conversation before chip... i hate and am better than anyone who dresses up in a fur suit and wants to have sex with woodland critters. someone like that has ceased to be a human being and as such deserves my ire.

Anyway. I would say, in reply to the OP. It's a love hate cycle.

For the longest time MLP has always had the reputation of being the epitome of condescending girly crap. After a certain article on Cartoon Brew caught the attention of a few 4channers and cartoon enthusiasts. They checked it out and were surprised and amazed at how surprisingly good it was in relation to past MLP efforts. See, it's not so much an amazing show that outshines everything else on TV like a lot of the haters think. Rather, it's an amazing step forward and pleasant surprise.

Yet, while they're enjoying this show as such a surprisingly decent guilty pleasure in the vein of Peanuts or Winnie the Pooh (really I'd say this is like one of those shows for the 21st century and the internet generation), people on 4chan and well the internet basically did what people are doing here. Accusing people of being girly furries who lost their manhood. People STILL have it hammered into their minds that MLP is the epitome of girly crap and just can't accept the idea that it can be a decent show for all ages and both genders.

People were being banned from websites solely for merely discussing the show. Fans basically struck back in attempts to push the show with image macros and memes. And from there, it's just been back and forth trolling. Although I think a great deal of fans are just trying to do what some of us here are doing which is fight the misconceptions about the show and trying to get people to try to at least give it a shot.
 
Guys, just a reminder: in one week, ponies will be on the front page of the OT for 6 months.

And to people who go and say that pony fans are as bad as Sonic fans, go into the Sonic Generations thread and hate on them too, just spam them unrelentingly.
 
I don't watch adventure time specifically because of the aesthetic.
i also didn't watch reboot.

I wasn't watching pony when the show first started airing, but I was browsing GAF at the time. I didn't see ponies, ponies everywhere like some people in this thread are suggesting. I guess I missed the pony spam despite browsing GAF daily?

I think it's ridiculous how if you post a pony gif in another thread, even if it's thread relevant, people flip out like you just stabbed their mother. My theory is that they come from /b/ where pony was relentlessly spammed for months on end. It would also explain why they go so far to derail threads and shitpost it to hell when it happens.

Some of you suggested they watch Adventure Time or Thundercats instead of MLP. Why can't I watch them all?

All in all, it seems pretty silly, considering we are on a forum that glorifies super expensive toys.

I always wonder if it crossed some posters that those who spam MLP macros to annoy are not fans themselves.

With that said, I don't give a fuck about Avatar TLA. Sure it seems good... if you don't watch a lot of cartoons and anime. I bet it wouldn't even be much recognized if it's not done in "anime style".

It's more the fans than it is the show.

In fact, I bet most of the people who hate the show probably haven't even seen it, it's all coming from dealing with the fans.

This. Of all the boards on the net, GAF should be the last to complain about being overrun with ponies. PonyGAF is pretty calm and confined, even when the pony thread was in OT. Yet in the first page of this thread, people are loosing their shit. I'm sure they're not raging against the isolated PonyGAF thread sitting in Community, really. I think people have a lot of baggage from other, less moderated, parts of the internet.

I can't technically say this is categorically false, but it's pretty close.

(shrug) But no worries. There are certainly shows that I think surpass the original TLA...I have high hopes for Korra, though.

This is how most people do it. Most people don't care, some people even laugh at the occasional .gif or picture. Most the threads that ended up derailed were because of the people who just went all nerd-rage on the whole thing.

Not into the Ponies but it sure is funny seeing the haters froth at the mouth so much, god damn. Who gives a shit what other people watch, especially if it's actual quality work.
