I don't know why people get so annoyed or angry at MLP and it's fans. Who cares if people like a kid's cartoon? I just don't understand how an adult can watch MLP and not be bored out of their fucking minds.
 
It's a decent show. You can definitely tell it's made for little girls, though it's not nearly so offensively condescending that age gap is unassailable. It's funny but not hilarious, fun but nothing incredible.

Really, my favorite thing about it is that the community that's formed around the show isn't filled with assholes and horrible shitposters like, say, OT-GAF proper.

nobody cares that a show for little girls exists

but there is literally nothing a socially and mentally well developed adult male should find stimulating or interesting in a show where the main moral message is to be nice to people

it is literally abhorrent that they arent bored stiff by this garbage

and mildly worrying

because a substantial percentage of these fans are embarrassing fat lonely men watching it because they are creepy furries and find the ponies attractive

and that is creepy

Does it? I don't know. From what I've seen of it the jokes are meant for very, very young children. No matter how good the timing is, an adult really shouldn't be able to be entertained by something aiming that low.

I find it abhorrent that you don't even grasp the simple 'be nice to people thing'.

No need to be a jerk and say shit like a large amount of us are "embarrassing fat lonely men watching it because they are creepy furries and find the ponies attractive".

I think more people need to watch MLP and learn how to be fucking nice guys instead of dicks. Might make the world a nicer place.

Speaking as someone who has never seen the show and has no intention of watching it, the people who get worked up over the pony fans are twice as irritating as the actual pony fans -- who are pretty irritating.

I watched it, and as a fan of animation in general, I thought it was a good series. Not life-changing, not amazing, but a solid, enjoyable cartoon. The writing was great, the animation was head and shoulders above most stuff done in Flash, and I found the characters funny and entertaining. Do things have to be more complicated than that?

That's the thing, MLP stands out among kids' shows because it was meant to. Lauren Faust intended to come up with a show that would be tolerable, or even enjoyable, for people other than the intended audience. She succeeded in a big way.

It's puzzling to me why this show is so popular with teens and young adults while a cartoon like Adventure Time, which is as clever as anything on TV right now and works on so many levels, is only moderately popular.

Adventure Time works as an adult show, works as a kid's show, is cute, genuinely funny, trippy and weird, unique, has a slowly unfolding mythology, the characters and settings are wildly creative, it's really fucking genius.

Is it because it's not SUPER INCREDIBLY CUTE like My Little Pony?

Anime really has ruined the taste of an entire generation. ;)
 
I just think it's weird how defensive My Little Pony fans get in threads like this. It's almost like they feel that the show defines who they are and they get offended when people find their lifestyle bizarre.

The randomness of Adventure Time probably works against it getting a wider audience. I think it's a fun show. :)

If we set aside MLP for a second, it's natural to be defensive when people start making mass accusations toward you and communities you identify. I'd feel pretty defensive if someone came up to me as said "Monster Hunter fans are creepy sociopaths." or "Non-religious people are thieves and liars."

I'm all for making fun of the shit people like. It's when it gets to personal attacks and name-calling that I think most fans react the way they do.


I would do the same for K-ON!!GAF.
K-ON! is still crap.
 
As someone who has been subjected to the first few episodes by hardcore ponyfans, I really can't see how anyone who has actually watched the show can hate it. It's very well produced.

The characters are some of the best takes on classic animation tropes I've ever seen, and it's not hard to see why they're so popular. The excellent art and animation really helps that, and the writing for each is consistently high quality. The voice actors did a great job too.

I don't see myself watching any other episodes, since I'd rather spend my time watching things I enjoy more, but I certainly don't regret my time watching it and would gladly watch more if I was in a situation where people wanted to.

On the one hand, it's understandable that people wouldn't want to watch it purely based on its visual aesthetic and design decisions. There's plenty of games I've not wanted to play or anime I've not wanted to watch based on those factors, but I would never profess to dislike the game or film without ever having actually experienced it myself.

So to outright hate the show? That's ludicrous, and there's no way you've seen it if that's so. People are being very quick to judge a book by its cover here. Attacking people for liking something they consider to somehow not be 'for their demographic' is a little hypocritical, no? Given the reaction gaming has in the media, and that thread about the Gizmodo writer dating the Magic: The Gathering champion the other day, it seems that a lot of people contradict themselves when it comes to My Little Pony.

With a grip like that the pony's tail would be torn out long before her ribcage parted company with her abdomen. That dreadnought's right hand should be gripping her haunches and hind leg, giving him a much firmer hold and enabling him to exert additional force on the spinal column by way of applying a twisting motion. Furthermore, doing so guarantees that he would be able to crush the hind legs with a flexing of his power fist, instantly crippling the pony's ability to flee should she attempt to effect an escape.
