Go watch manly Showa Kamen Rider like Black to see that their attack actually make contact.

Yes... I know. I was joking.

We still get stupid Avatar reaction shots in half the threads. Nobody's safe.
To be fair, that's pretty much just me.

I have no problem with PonyGAF. Their GIFs are actually pretty good. I don't like the show though. it's way too preachy for my liking.

I feel like I'm missing out on something. The only thing I know about the show is that people post pictures of it on GAF and have avatars of it. They either don't show it here or it's because I don't watch TV... but somehow I feel like I'm missing something...

I despised the Bronie fanbase but learned you only live once lately. So if it makes you happy to like MLP, I could really give a fuck but please, do me and the whole entire board together and stop pushing your pony propaganda and pony love across the Board. PLEASE!!!!!

Exactly. If you want to be a furry, that's on you, but don't push furry propaganda on the rest of us who like to fap to human beings.

What would you say to those of us who think it is a genuinely funny show that can put a smile on our face without the crude humor that runs rampant in entertainment today?

First, crude humor or not it isn't really funny, just typical lowest common denominator comedy made of an even lower grade. And well you guys can enjoy it, I don't really give much of a shit, but a lot seem to defend it to obnoxious heights. Like I hear about how that pink pony character is the best cartoon character of all time, or how the animation is fantastic, or even how its not a show for little girls(one thing that ever brony I see cry foul about).

Pinky pie or whatever is not the best cartoon character of all time, the animation is flash based and i've seen better and more appealing animation at newgrounds, and yes the show was made with little girls in mind. Hell I love Power Puff Girls and Sailor Moon, but I've never denied that they're girl shows. The story, characters, premise and everything about it is generic to the point of boredom.

I do know that everything is seen in a subjective way, but there's always an objectivity there. I don't care about the Call Of Duty games but they are well made, I enjoy some Whitesnake songs even though those songs are terrible. I think Scarface is a great rapper but I hardly ever listen or care about his work. For me or others to say that the show is pretty mediocre isn't an attack, but an observation.

careful what you insinuate there junior

The anime was crap - it's a story about F-Zero but with an OG character no one cares about!

Also wtf at James x Wolf in the anime.

Actually, most people that like My Little Pony don't post gifs everywhere, or makes fan-fiction or things like that. I like it a lot and I don't do such things.

Maybe it's partly the fact that the ponies are very nicely animated, very clean drawn so they are an easy target.

oh god you guys are still going

why

I'm not willing to go to the bronies = furries card, but I think age is a big part of it. Those of us who grew up during the Reagan administration remember the original MLP -- they were roughly the female equivalent to G.I. Joe (of the cartoon and comic book, not the 'kung-fu grip' era Joe). From that environment....looking at adolescent boys excitement over something we had zero interest in from an even younger age...it's weird.

There seems to be almost a generational gap when it comes to traditional gender roles. (See the Miller Lite "Man Up" ad campaign for another example of this, or discussions on how Hollywood is importing nearly all of it's leading men from places like Australia for lack of alpha males.) These are the same adolescents who have had tolerance force-fed to them for as long as they've been in school, surprised to see that people outside their age group are willing to speak their mind.

Of course, I have a 'Community' Avatar, so I guess I can only say that if I'm going to fantasize about any large-eyed character I see on TV....it'll look less like Fluttershy and more like Alison Brie.

This is how I feel!

As an a child of the 80's I don't understand grown men or even teenage boys liking this program ...... it is made for little girls!

For people of my generation this fact alone would mean your man card would be revoked!

But each to their own ..... I just don't get it.

There was a time I would have agreed with you. Now I will kick the teeth in of any fool who would, ahem, I mean I would nicely but firmly state that I'm not worried about the state of my manhood. Don't knock it till you've tried it. Have a beer, lighten up, and give it a go. Most of the time when they make something particularly "for" someone, it's crap to everyone. This isn't, it's surprisingly entertaining, and once you get over the surprise, you find that the show is legit. Or worse thing that happens, it's not your thing, but you'll sort of get why people like it. It's on youtube for god's sake. It certainly beats watching 95% of what's on youtube, and you know that's a fact.

Once again, trying to set aside my mild enjoyment of ponies...

These feelings you and your generation have are the byproduct of your youth, and the gender culture of the time. Back then (and back ever), it was very clear. Men are MEN. They do not show emotion, or empathy; they kill things, they are badasses, and it is a sign of weakness to show kindness or dependence on others. Similarly, women were expected to like frilly things, to obsess over their appearance, and to behave in a nonviolent and nonaggressive fashion.

We know, of course, that these gender stereotypes are pretty false. Several studies have shown that men take more emotional harm from breakups than women, and I personally know a dozen women who know WAY too much about guns. In a more tolerant society, these gender roles have begun, albeit slightly, to break down. Girls who play Call of Duty aren't so rare; men and women can room together platonically; young boys can be in theater and not necessarily be bullied.

There is no actual reason why a show about friendship, a common universal theme to either gender, should be made exclusively for females. There is no actual reason that men cannot find things cute; god knows the internet loves kittens. And while any adult can find entertainment juvenile, and below one's maturity level, MLP does a fairly good job at working in jokes and themes any adult can find relevant.

As culture expands and gender stereotypes break down, these sorts of things will become more and more common. But most of us are slaves to our childhood programming, and it's likely that the older generations won't accept it. But hey. It's been like that since the beginning of time, hasn't it? = D

I'm of your age group. I had very mixed feelings when I first heard about the new My Little Pony, but I have varied tastes and try to keep an open mind, so I gave it a chance, and found it to be totally awesome. My man card? Not even scratched.

i don't think anyone actually likes MLP, not seriously. i mean i have no problem with adults watching a show about talking ponies aimed at kids, thats fine, but there's seriously no kind of real content there that would actually appeal to adults in terms of themes, humour etc.

i think its just a troll like "hey guys mlp is actually good u shud watch it!" and people watch it and they laugh because people fell for it.

You know there's shows ill never watch, they include MLP

Others are

Lucky Star
Naruto
K on (whatever that is)

Also yeah you "bronies" think you cancome back to the OT as the best faction on Gaf? Forget it! You haven't a ghost of a chance against creepy Gaf!

One Piece

wtf?

I refuse to watch some Faux pirate anime that seems to be grossly overrated.

And yes ookami with his nippled muscled furry men and doctor I make a ton of gifs weeeeee. Are planning to take over OT with their ponies likeI said they're out of their league.

And that's the bottom line cause the king of games said so

*drops mic*

what's mlp stance on zionism?
The ponies seem to worship the Alicorn master race as gods, and currently worship only one of them in particular (although there are others).

The series protagonist is basically an atheist, despite her absolute unflinching worship of the current leader (it's complicated), but in one episode a godlike non-Alicorn pony was messing around with her and may or may not have permanently broken her faith in atheism.

I have no problem with the show. It's the fans.

Though, I guess that's the problems with most things in entertainment.
