Yes, current DE pricing and basically $400 being their main SKU going into the holidays vs slim pickings to get one now due to two different production lines.399 without drive .

I think it’s a pretty smart move by Sony, they really outdid MS this time , they are stuck with the Series S spec for the digital version , time for them to drop the parity clausule.Yes, current DE pricing and basically $400 being their main SKU going into the holidays vs slim pickings to get one now due to two different production lines.
They charge $60 for the plates WITHOUT a drive in them now.
The drive will be $99. So if you want a PS5 with a disc drive, you’re still paying $500.Plates don't sell physical copies in case you didn't know.
The only thing they would be making after this comes to market. Is this version. Both the digital and current disc versions would be discontinued. It literally makes no sense having this version, the disc drive add-on and an OG PS5 disc version.I don't think they will discontinue the regular PS5, just the DE model.

Sony makes more money on digital.I never said that wasn't the case.
But plates that are not necessary to play physical games are going to be treated differently.
Some people won't even buy a PS5 if they can't play physical copies on it. Which was my case BTW.
what did you expect the second people started posting and saying stuff like they are not buying a game console that they put in a cabinet under their TV because its `ugly`.This thread is getting weird.
Sony makes more money on digital.
And there are consumers that won't buy a digital only system.
There are still so many games I will play through one time and never play again, why would I want a digital only copy that I just delete when I could get a disk and at least get something out of it returnI know many won't care about physical copies but there's still a market for them. Sony can't make the drive so expensive that many will refuse to buy a PS5 due to its price.
Now faceplates that's something else.
There are still so many games I will play through one time and never play again, why would I want a digital only copy that I just delete when I could get a disk and at least get something out of it return
And it doesn't matter to me if its $10 its the idea of it to me that means more

Which is why I broke the habit years ago and no longer add "free" games from these services that I know I will never play. Packrat hoarding digital is still just that.Yep. My Steam account is littered with games that I haven’t played in years.
Not to mention no disc drive greatly reduces backwards compatibility. There are still so many games I will play through one time and never play again, why would I want a digital only copy that I just delete when I could get a disk and at least get something out of it return

Id have to know how many digital consoles vs disc versions were manufactured total. I actually wanted the All digital because i loath useless installation discs and useless clutter cases, but ended up lucky enough to get the disc version launch day.Well how popular is an all digital PS5 in the first place? If people don't want the new model and add ons typically fail like you said then that means many won't get it due to it requiring an add on to play physical copies.
I personally don't see it failing either way. I really don't see the PS5 + Disk Drive failing because people still want physical copies. This isn't like the situation with Sega where the CDs were not available since launch. Asking people to buy an add on to play them when they already have cartridges is a bit different than this situation.
I'm happy that you clarified things though.

This would most likely be $399,disc addon will probably be $100. If you were buying a digital PS5, you end up paying the same thing. If you were buying a disc-based PS5, you are paying the same thing with this too. For sony, it means they only have to make one console.
You can sell them and loan them, they are also cheaper most of the time. Savings > clutter.Id have to know how many digital consoles vs disc versions were manufactured total. Find it hard to believe if the manufacturing were 1:1 people wouldn’t have opted to save that 100 bucks.
Physical games sone exist anymore, they install to the SSD then only became clutter, pain in the ass physical DRM where you have to switch discs every time you want to play something new. What they SOULD have sone is made the original all digital model cheaper and offered an affordable add a disc drive for those minor amount of people who still believe they own physical games.
I'm not a fan of the ps5 design or this new revision of it, I'd go so far as to say it's the ugliest playstation console.

Missing out on all the fun because it’s not 100% unnoticeable is crazy lol. Guess you also don’t have a tv in your room. Hideous black object in the room. Can’t have a sofa too, somehow it’s too noticeable .
Good luck with your empty room while the rest of the world enjoys all the objects that make those rooms fun .
Yes... is pretty normal for every adult straight male care more about roon fashion than their fun ...
I don't get it... I really don't see what the issue is here. You are making something out of absolutely nothing..IDK, people are still buying the expensive one, so more likely they want that way.
Wasn't suppouse to give consumers choise?

If you buy a PS5 Disc edition, you are paying $499. Or paying $399 for the digital PS5, those are the two choices available right?.
How is that different from this new version? You buy the new PS5 for $399.Which comes without a disc drive, but if you want a disc drive, you have a choice to buy the add on for $99. At the end of the day, your net spend is still $499. The choice is still there. Its just that now its been shifted from two separate consoles to just one console and you just buy a disc add-on for it if you want to play physical games.
People act like this new PS5 suddenly means the option to be a physical-only gamer is no longer there. Or like some sort of choice has been taken away when in truth, this is what they should have done from launch in 2020. Because this way, EVERYONE has the option to get a disc drive if they wanted to. As it stands, if you bought a digital PS5, you are stuck with that forever.
This is a better, more elegant way to do this. And they really should have done this back in 2020 when they launched the console. Though I know why they didn't.
what are you talking about/who is confused? What is confusing? Are you comparing 2 SKU with an add on and still confuse?
If you're already confused, imagine the consumers.

But that is the beauty of this. Because the PS5 can play physical games. They just have to go out and buy the disc drive too. They have a choice. That consumers will buy the PS5 thinking it will play physical games.
But to be honest I think Sony will do something to make that very clear. Plus even if they do make a mistake it will provably be very easy to fix.
I remember the NVME was supposed to be a big headache for consumers but that didn't really happen. I think consumers will be fine understanding the purpose of the disk drive.

You could be totally right. Rotating a ps5 with one hand so casually and fast isn't possible unless you got tree trunk forearms. Unless it really is that big of a difference but all the reports are that it isn't necessarily a slim model just a different one.Looks like a knock off that will be sold with emulators and roms.
It amazes me how people like to be scammed with the prices of those digital stores, it amazes me even more that people is fine having less choices.....people who want to use discs will have to cough up another $50-100 if you want a PS5 and in the year 2023 still want to use ancient technology then you better grab a PS5 asap before these models disappear because with this new model Sony is making physical game buyers pay more. good strategy to push people to digital and prepare them for the all digital PS6 lol
what are you talking about/who is confused? What is confusing?
They will probably sell them with or without. but The drive will be bundled in a separate boxJust try imagine what you said in the consumer pespective.
'Hey, I want to buy a PS5 to my kid.'
'Here'
'This play disc games? My son have a bunch of PS4 games.'
'Sorry sir, you need to buy the disc drive separately.'
'Do you sell this too or what?'
For the best solution, the PS5 slim will come with disc drive, but this time have an option to remove if you wish. Only if this is the case I can see they replacing both the regular PS5 and the PS5 DE. If they gonna sell the PS5 slim without the disc drive, imo just the DE should go because both PS5 slim and DE share the same fate of not having disc drive, having option or not would fool the consumer in the moment of buy the console.
Fake:
You are overthinking this. I am sure it would be clearly written on the box, and promoted/advertised in store...etc how it all works. I am also sure that any retailer that has the console in store, will no doubt have the disc drive add-on as I am sure the disc drive add-on required would be boldly printed on every physical game box going forward. I would even go as far as saying that most retailers oud even bundle the drive at a discount if you buy like two or three games along with it. Retailers need you to buy that add-on, as physical games are how they make their money.Just try imagine what you said in the consumer pespective.

This makes absolutely no sense. If every PS5v2 comes with a removable disc drive, then they should just make the console with a disc drive and discontinue the digital version. For the best solution, the PS5 slim will come with disc drive, but this time have an option to remove if you wish. There's a pretty big symbol on the front and top of the PS5 DE box that makes it very clear it can't play discs, I imagine they will have a similar one on the new model:You are overthinking this. I am sure it would be clearly written on the box
