The punk that gets the most play in my record collection:

Black Flag
The Ruts
Bad Brains
Minor Threat
SOA
The Germs
The Dead Boys
Richard Hell and the Voidoids
Dead Kennedys
Circle jerks
Misfits
Minutemen
The Clash
At The Drive in
Ramones
Teenage Jesus and the Jerks
Big Black

Probably a load others but cant remember names right now, the first two are the main influence on me.

Edit: Holy fuck! how the hell did i forget the fucking stooges?!? Iggy pop can do no wrong in my eyes, the answer to any critics of Iggy can be found in Raw Power at full volume, also the Ashton brothers were fucking awesome.

JAWBREAKER's "24 Hour Revenge Therapy" and "Bivouac"

Favorite modern day punk band would be LAWRENCE ARMS

Also check out THE BROADWAYS

Fucking yes!

I love the Buzzcocks.

Also, I might as well pimp a local band that are pretty influenced by the Buzzcocks - Electra.

Plus, the lead singer is crazy hot.

Where's your favorite place to go to find up and coming bands? Here in Denver I discovered Banner Pilot at the Three Kings Tavern. I've also seen some pretty good shows at the High Dive.

Batmobile, Demented Are Go, Tiger Army, Nekromantix...
Psychobilly and Rockabilly aren't gonna get their own OT's and Psychobilly fits well enough under the Punk umbrella, so BOOM! They've been posted ITT.

Dead Kennedys

EDIT: I'm 33 and been loving listening to Punk again. Just fun music. Currently listening to: Dead Kennedys/Pixies/NOFX/Bad Religion with a side of Rise Against/Sum41. I ain't complaining.

Man, I used to listen to punk and its various offshoots when I was younger, but I was never very good at finding new bands, so I've sort of lost the thread, so to speak.

Edit: And I'm now listening to Goldfinger's Superman.

We posting psychobilly too? If so I like Zombina and the Skeletones, Tiger Army and HorrorPops. Shadow Reichenstein a)nd Devilish Presley weren't too bad either IIRC (although I think SR were more horror punk?)

I almost forgot Crime In Stereo.

They broke up recently and from what I heard everyone at their shows only enjoy hearing their old stuff. Even though they got better with every release, I suppose you can pin it on them being less cookie cutter "punk".

For example:

"Amsterdamned!" from their first album
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtjUm5J6bec

"Bicycles For Afghanistan" from their second album The Troubled Stateside. You can tell they progressed a bit from their first album.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiWmBHJjh6E

"Third Atlantic" from their third album "Is Dead". They completely gave up the joke titles and starting dabbling in the abstract. The songs on this album varied in tempo much more than anything else they've done prior.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkD-x32KkiY

"I am Everything I am Not" from their final album "I Was Trying TO Describe You To Someone" It makes "Is Dead", in retrospect, feel like an awkward transitional album. They decided to split after this album which is a shame cause it sounded like they had finally found themselves.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Pe62mqrMGI

TL;DR: Crime In Stereo, listen to them.
I Was Trying To Describe You > Is Dead > The Troubled Stateside > Explosives and the will to use them.

Generally it goes like: Is Dead > Troubled Stateside > I Was Trying > Explosives, but that order just hurts my head.

Why does no one ever list Social Distortion? :|

I blame local radio. I've heard the same Social D songs over and over since I was old enough to hear. I could go without hearing nirvana, red hot chilli peppers or sublime for the rest of my life as well.

some of my favorites:

the mr t experience
crimpshrine
sicko
pinhead gunpowder
onion flavored rings
lillingtons
green day (yeah yeah)
common rider
operation ivy
the queers
screeching weasel
boris the sprinkler

plus basically anything that was put out by lookout records in the late 80s-early 90s.

oh and the obvious ones of course (the ramones, the clash, etc)

Grew up listening to it. Still hold a flame for 90s punkrock.

Kid Dynamite (then None More Black)
Gorilla Biscuits
Operation Ivy
Suicide Machines
Lagwagon
Bad Brains

And so on.

Well, Psycho is more punk as rockabilly is more rock. There are some Psycho bands that would seem to heavy to be punk, like Calabrese, but I figured why couldn't psycho go in here?
You've got great taste though. A lot of people whine about Tiger Army being too mainstream to be Psycho or that they don't fit in the genre anymore, but Tiger Army is incredible. Makes me wish I lived on the west coast so I could see them sometime.

And as far as punk bands, I haven't really listened to punk since about 10 years ago, but my buddy put my on The Briggs and I love them. Trying to get one of their cds on eBay for cheap. I guess they are an 'Oi' band? They sound kinda like the DK Murpheys to me. I love them though:
Mad Men : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h66AVWjD2LI
This Ship is now Sinking : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz3AWsOxxOs (i love the chorus in this song..."AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA...."
Ship of Fools is a good song as well.

It was the same guy who put me on Tiger Army. He also listened to a lot of Lars Fredrikson and the Bastards and I liked them too a bit. Modest Mouse was his big one, but this is a punk thread, so I won't go on about them too much.

Sucks he left for Korea, because he and I would put each other on a lot of different stuff. Usually he would put me on something, like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and then going off that, I would discover Marina and the Diamonds and put him on that. I keep using the phrase 'put on' because a ton of us at work would always use it. I'd be listening to a song, someone would ask who they were, and after I said "Oh, it's so and so. They're pretty good," this guy Ryan or another guy would be walking past and go "I put you on them."
It was always something to bring up and remind someone, "Hey, you like them? Your welcome." It would lead to arguments though. I got here from Korea and loved It's Always Sunny. A guy from Philly would always try to say he put me on them though and I would have to recount the times I watched it when it first aired on FX right after the cancelled show Starved, before I left for Basic Training.
Sorry to derail the thread a bit with that, but I miss those guys....
Damn.

You from Green Bay or somewhere else in Wisconsin? Can't say I've met anyone who knew of Boris outside of WI. Used to see them back in the day at Concert Cafe and 8 Testicled Pogo Machine was always in heavy rotation back in high school. Cool to see someone mention this band. Pretty sure Rev. Norb is making video games now or something.

chicago, but I love bts

One of my favorite bands right now is the Koffin Kats. Also in the more folk punk genre Mischief Brew. Bands I always come back to include Bad Religion, Millencolin, The Briefs, NoFX, One Man Army, The Unseen, old The Virus, Tiger Army, Ryan's Hope, Anti-Flag, Lagwagon, Pistol Grip, and so many others. Although most of these I havn't kept current with so if they recently put out bad albums don't judge me.

Tiger Army is pretty commercial sounding/mainstream for their genre, but the whole 'it's mainstream so it must be bad' thing is just ridiculous. Come to think of it, Miguel and the Living Dead aren't too shabby either, and The Coffinshakers are OK, although they're more like horror country than psychobilly :lol

Props for your avatar too, Brave New World is still the best of the post-reunion Maiden albums :D

Cool, I knew you had to be somewhat close. Just hearing that name makes me wish for the days I used to go see punk and ska shows every weekend. Now I feel old and sad.
Haha, you and me both

I prefer a more pop-punk sound recently, two of my favourite albums that i've not seen posted so much are these two:

51v-hNg0GUL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
51D1WBJV6YL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Teen Idols - Self Titled and Teenage Bottlerocket - Total.

As for favourite bands, some of mine with a preview track of each:

Teen Idols - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s854Ct20_18
The Briefs - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdQBzRT5rek
Teenage Bottlerocket - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FllK4lbMhs
The Queers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajxrGlx-H2Y
Screeching Weasel - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8tEwvO-f2s
The Riverdales - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXQ-2XeFVMI
The Lillingtons - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK5iLPaeyWQ
Chixdiggit - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VJBcR0zLJg

Have a listen, let me know if you like them or know anything similar.

I saw someone mentioned Joy Division earlier in the thread. If we're including post-punk too, I would like to mention The Cure, The Chameleons (UK) and Lords of the New Church and The Bolshoi. And Alien Sex Fiend, although they were far more into synth oddities than post-punk.

Naw let's not get into post-punk territory...It's my favorite genre, but it really is quite different. Although there are some bands that straddled the line like The Wire and Gang of Four.

And Killing Joke. Or, well, KJ didn't as much straddle lines as guffaw at them while making their own punk/metal/industrial/post-punk hybrid.

Damn right. One of the greatest bands in existence.

so fuckin happy BR was the first name mentioned.
Saw them at the Fillmore Auditorium here in Denver. I was excited because The Bouncing Souls were opening for them. 'How I Spent My Summer Vacation' is one of my favorite albums.
Bouncing Souls rocked the joint. Bodies were flying everywhere. I didn't think anyone could top that set. Foolish me. BR came on and put to shame every act that came before them. When they played 'New Dark Ages'... It's something I won't forget for a while. Guess that comes with being a band for 30+ years.

I want all the Koffin Kats cds bad. I guess they are OOP though, so eBay is about the only place to get them. I've seen them individually at some cheapish prices, but I really want to grab all of them in one go.
Graveyard Tree 1, 2, and 3 are fantastic songs. Graveyard Tree 0? Eh, not so much.
I tell you what, I could throw the three 'real' Graveyard Tree on repeat and listen to them for days on end. I love lifting to the first and third one, gets me pumped. 3 is the best out of the trio though IMO. My buddy out in the desert prefers 2 though.
Koffin Kats are soooooo good. They are another group my pal put me on.
For anyone who cares to give them a listen:

Graveyard Tree = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxiM3hK03cc
Graveyard Tree 2 = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgfrkZeD1hs
Graveyard Tree 3 = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O85OWu8Jc5g (the chorus sells the song so well)

They are certainly a lot more cleanly recorded than say, Demented Are Go or early Nekromantix. But I like songs that are well recorded over those that aren't.
I can listen to all 5 CDs (including The Early Years) back-to-back. They are just one of 'those' bands for me. There are maybe 3 songs in their entire library that I don't care for and even those aren't 'bad;' I just like the rest better. I wish they would record one of the KROQ Weenie Roasts or whatever it is called that they play every year and release a DVD. Nick 13 on this video sounds so great. I just discovered that there are videos of some of his country solo side project songs out and I'm digging on them right now, but I hope the Army releases a new CD soon.

And you are right on the money with your Brave New World comment. I am thinking for my next tattoo I will get my avatar as a half sleeve around my bicep. The purples will look amazing and I know someone who would be able to get the clouds in the background with the faint faces hidden in them down perfectly.

Hallows.jpg

I am surprised that no one has mentioned early-afi yet. I always liked the singles I had heard from Sing the Sorrow, but yet again, my buddy put me on them hardcore.
Running to this song feels sooo good.
Is it backlash because of how they sound like shit now, anger at the Hot Topic crowd, or do people just not care for them?
The Boy Who Destroyed The World is an amazing song. Things like 'I Want a Mohawk (but mom won't let me get one)' are also really good.

EYEL1NER you should be able to buy the Koffin Kats CDs at any of their shows, and if you are in the states it's not TOO hard to catch them somewhere. Last year my boyfriend and I saw them about 5 or 6 times in just a few months, but I guess it helps that we live in the midwest where they are from as well. They are overseas right now but have a pretty extensive tour (they are ALWAYS on tour it seems) planned over here starting next month I think. Unfortunatly I don't think I can make any of the shows they have set up right now, but I bet they will add some that will work for me. Good luck getting those CDs and see them live if you haven't cause they give an awesome show.

I went through that feeling this summer. It's too good.

You motherfuckers need to check out Dead to Me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsFhbtT6rJY - By The Throat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKo2IGXbFEQ - Special Professional

Their first two releases Cuban Ballerina and Little Brother (ep) are flawless.. their latest full length African Elephants is still amazing (with some weak songs, guitarist/singer Jack left to have a kid [but he's in Swingin Utters now], so they got a new dude Nathan who was kinda rad).
