Is anyone going to Slam Dunk this year? It's in Leeds and it's an annual punk festival but it covers a really wide spectrum. This lineup is superb this year

I'm going for Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger, Set Your Goals, The Starting Line, Anti-Flag, and Hit The Lights. Everything else is a bonus.

Leeds Festival is great this year too. New Found Glory, Rise Against and Offspring are pretty much playing back to back on the second day.

Pretty decent lineup at Slam Dunk this year. I would definitely be going.. If I wasn't flying out Thailand 4 days before. Bah!

Edit - I wish I didn't look at the Leeds Festival page now.. Elbow and Muse double header on day 1. I'm incredibly jealous of anyone who's going.

I've only got a Day Ticket for the day with Rise Against. I'd have loved to have gone for the whole weekend but work got in the way. The weird thing is I haven't been to Leeds since 2002...where the lineup was almost identical to this year's lineup. Some of the bands are even playing in the same order as they did in 2002! I'm really excited about Leeds though. Rise Against are my number one band that I've always wanted to see live but it's never happened.

I forgot to say but Slamdunk is now expanding a bit and they're holding smaller day shows around the country. It doesn't have the full lineup of the Leeds show but LTJ, Antiflag and Goldfinger seem to be playing every show

Leeds Festival 2002 was my first and my favourite of the Leeds fests I've been to. That lineup was incredible and I've yet to see one come close to topping it yet. So many amazing bands. I'm getting all misty eyed and nostalgic thinking about how great it was.

New Face to Face album coming out soon.
1 month!!!
They broke up a while ago and are now back together. If you've never heard of them before, get their live album. Live: Face to Face.

Underground shows in Secret Art Space's and basements is punk.

Green Day, Thrice, and Fallout Boy are not.

You've got to live hardcore to be hardcore.

Behead the Profit, No Lord Shall Live

I've been in the mood for some good new punk, but I can't find anything that holds me for very long. I've been listening to some old Ataris and Set Your Goals' second album, but I need some new stuff.

Don't listen to a lot of punk. I'll listen to the mainstream (or ex-mainstream) stuff like Sum 41 and Rise Against. I'll also listen to Pop-punk like Yellowcard and Jimmy Eat World.

Edit: I realize the way I typed this the first sentence fragment sounds like a command, lol. I meant "I" don't listen to a lot of punk.

They're slow (depending on the punk you're talking about). There are a lot of good 'pop' punk bands that have been mentioned.

Fake edit: Just looked up Thrice on Youtube. Fuck me when did Thrice go all video musicy?

Ain't nothin' wrong with some pop-punk. Hit the Lights., Set Your Goals, and Girlband.
Love yer nick btw.

Pop-punk is a curse word if they are mainstream, if they are still relatively unknown, then it's alright

Someone introduced me to this album. It's a side project by the guitarist from the Descendants with contributions from the singers of lots of famous bands (Rise Against, Less Than Jake, MXPX, to name a few)

Definitely worth picking up as it's a really strong album.

I was a punk in mid '90s listening from Clash to GBH, Ramones and Varukers, DK and One Way System... even the Exploited... now my only link to the past are the Clash and Stiff Little Fingers, that i listen daily.
Who can link me some band that follow the musical path of these bands? I'm out of the loop :/

I thank you. :D

But some of the mainstream stuff is still good, but there are some people who just listen to it exclusively.

Got a notice that Reel Big Fish and Street Light Manifesto are doing a concert here soon. Yep.

Streetlight Manifesto started playing as soon as I read this.

I wouldn't classify either as punk though. Also screw you I want to see Streetlight again. :/

Eh, I consider them Ska which I think is an offshoot of punk. I think they fit in here :)

Pretty much the popular 90s punk bands....

-Green Day
-The Offspring
-Rancid
-Bad Religion
-Operation Ivy
-Pinhead Gunpowder

I need to start listening to some of the original 70s punk bands though. I've listened to some Ramones, Clash, and Iggy Pop.

Streetlight is more ska-punk, so yes, they belong here.

Speaking of which, I should see if they are playing around here any time soon.

Edit: Awesome! They are coming in July with Reel Big Fish. It's been so long since I've been to a Ska show.

Good stuff! I'm feeling a lot of Rockabilly in this. Didn't like the first song, but the others are sticking. Thank you!

No problem
I think they have about 10 albums out by now, about 60% of their songs are in english, others are in french or spanish.

My favorite band by far, and the one i've seen the most time live (about 15 times at least)

edit : their live album is the best one.

Heh, I've played 'Ya Basta' 5 times now. What's the name of the live album? I'm looking on Amazon right now.

I'm not terribly familiar with Thrice or Fallout Boy, but Green Day went through the Gilman Street scene. While they're obviously not living "punk" anymore, they were certainly made as punks.

The Lock Up Stage for Leeds/Reading 2011 is fucking amazing.

Organiser have today announced The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Descendents as headliners.

Festival Republic have today announced the line up for the Lock Up Stage at Leeds Festival 2001.

Headliners at Leeds will be DESCENDENTS (Friday) and THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES (Sunday) – Saturday at Leeds is the Dance Stage, which was announced last month.

Mike Davies, presenter of The Punk Rock Show on Radio 1 and curator of the Lock Up Stage said:

“2011 is the year that Punk Rock broke out… again. There are so many great groups around and I truly believe that we have managed to get 24 of the best bands possible to play on the Lock Up Stage. It’s guaranteed to be the best weekend of the summer.”

Supporting on the Friday will be: FLOGGING MOLLY – FACE TO FACE – HOT WATER MUSIC – BEDOUIN SOUNDCLASH – OFF! – THE BLACK PACIFIC – THE MENZINGERS – YOUR DEMISE – SPY CATCHER – MOUTHWASH.

The stage will also see the following bands on the Sunday: KING BLUES – THE BRONX – CAPDOWN – LEFTOVER CRACK – COMEBACK KID – BOYSETSFIRE – STREET DOGS – TEENAGE BOTTLEROCKET – TITLE FIGHT – SHARKS.

This year's Leeds lineup is getting close to being one of the great festival lineups of all time. It is phenomenal!

So did anyone else go to Slamdunk or is going this week? The show was absolutely fucking mental! Goldfinger were the surprise of the night because they were incredible. LTJ were as good as you'd expect. AntiFlag impressed me too. Reel Big Fish were terrible though. No energy, no enthusiasm, and the crowd was bored. RBF spent about 3 minutes moaning about how much time they had left to kill so they played Beer three times. tbh it was the only time the crowd had any kind of reaction or engagement. Incredible festival overall though.
