Anyway, yay for the Astros.

I'm picking the Yanks over the Sox in 7, and the Astros in an upset over the Cards in 6.

Would be interesting seeing Roger Clemens in NYC again. ;)

Hey those lean years were tough and Mattingly never made it to a World Series because of the strike. :p

Yeah, I know. I hope Bagwell and Biggio celebrate really hard tonight until they can't remember they won. They deserve it.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

Man, I remember when the Rockets were doing so bad talk was that they'd trade Beltran. It's amazing how things have gone from good...to bad....to great for them this season.

Holy shit. Beltran's running the point?

What a game! Exactly what the Astros needed...

So now what?

Game 1: Backe
Game 2: Munro (Offense is going to need to step it up)
Game 3: Clemens (fully rested thank god)
Game 4: Oswalt

Game 1: Backe (3 Days rest) Announced as Game 1 starter. LET'S GO CY BACKE!
Game 2: Munro/Hernandez
Game 3: Clemens (extra day, 5 days rest)
Game 4: Oswalt (extra day, 5 days rest)

Beltran:
10-22, 4HR, 9RBI, 9 Runs

If we win game 1, hold off on Clemens and let him go Game 3 on full rest + 1 day.

Berkman

vs.

Walker
Pujols
Rolen
Edmonds [why is he hitting 6th?]

I wonder if Garner will send Roy/Rog on 3 days rest again...I hope he doesn't, they've been mediocre at best with less than normal rest.

Is Carpenter ready for the NLCS?

Braves fans suck. The damn stadium started emptying way before the end of the game.

Congrats to the Astros and their fans, you guys wanted it more. Have fun with the Cards!

I like that rotation...I dunno about Backe on 3 days rest, why not pitch him game 2 and have Munro game 1?

Meh, I give credit to Atlanta tonight. They sold out (see what happens when you play well and don't schedule games for 4 o'clock on Wednesday!) and the crowd was really pumped until they went down by 74 runs.

That said, I'm totally numb to this shit now, so I can understand where people are coming from, but....

Braves fans, the most pathetic fans in all of major league baseball (Expos fans are better), deserve to see their team get beat to hell at home in a pivotal game 5.
This crap still pisses me off. Probably haven't been to a Pirates game recently :)

Aside from the fact that we've already gotten just what we "deserve" several years running, it's just a ridiculous look at causation (or perhaps rather cyclical effects). It's like saying the Expos deserve to consistently suck because they aren't selling out every game.

Also, if I were an Astros fan, I know I'd probably really enjoy beating them at this point, so congrats to you guys. You've definitely paid yer dues for it.

Darn those Braves! To lose to the Astros of all teams! I could understand losing to the Cardinals.

And let me make a safe prediction, the Braves will never make the World Series as long as they are under Time Warner managment. I just heard that TW is going to slash the Braves' budget yet again next year. Where are the Braves going to get the money to resign players and acquire new, great players? Simply put, they won't. Money isn't everything, but the Braves won't be able to consistently compete against the 'big-money' teams if they don't increase their budget. They may be able to win the division year in and year out, but they'll rarely be able to do beyond that. I heard the Braves' budget next year will be about $80 million. $80 million! You can't compete with the Yankees, etc. with that kind of money. Especially since alot of that will go to Chipper Jones, who always quits when the playoffs start.

And also I'm hearing some stuff about Smoltz. Can anybody clarify? Some guy on the radio who should know what he is talking about, is acting like Smoltz won't be able to pitch next year (injuries?). He said we'd be hearing about Smoltz soon. What's that all about? He's my favorite player and he better be ready to pitch great next year! :(

And another thing, why is Chip Caray joining the Braves broadcast team? I like Skip, but two Carays is enough to put anyone off. :p I just hope this doesn't mean the departure of Don Sutton. He's the only one that hasn't resigned for next year (though everyone says a contract is being negotiated).

It's sad to see the Braves lose to the Astros, but they'd have been destroyed in St. Louis. Like Pete van Wieren said, the Braves basically don't have a pitching staff anywhere near the caliber they used to. They don't have a starting pitcher that they can depend on to deliver 8 innings.

Actually, the Braves payroll was at about 80 million THIS year. I suppose it will be in the 70-75 range next season. We won't re-sign Ortiz or Drew, and will just have to plug in rookies or cheap replacements and see what happens.

Pete Munro listed on Astros.com to be the Game 1 starter.

Backe definately game 2 then
Clemens game 3
Oswalt game 4

And from there...we'll see what we do

Backe only threw 79 pitches in game 3 which was a noon game.

I think you run him out there on 3 days rest....

Game 1 - Backe on 3 days
Game 2 - Munro on full rest
Game 3 - Clemens on 1 extra day rest
Game 4 - Oswalt on 1 extra day rest
Game 5 - Backe on full rest
Game 6 - Munro on full rest
Game 7 - Clemens on full rest

I said consistently to make the playoffs, you need the money. Where are the Marlins this year? Where will the Astros be in the coming years? We'll see.
