Ok, friendos, I have only seen a handful of Simpsons episodes in my life, so I have decided to do a mini binge. I heard that seasons 2-9 are consistently good so I plan on watching most of those episodes, but I heard season 1 is rough. Which episodes in season one are worth watching?

If I had to pick three to recommend I'd say Bart the Genius, The Call of the Simpsons and Krusty Gets Busted.

Season 1 really isn't bad though. It just has a bit of a different tone from later seasons. Granted they were still figuring out the voices and animation a bit, but I definitely think it's worth watching.

All of them. Saying season 1 isn't as good as 2 to 9 is the difference between a very good show and a god tier show.

Just realized this list doesn't include Bart the General and Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire. Moaning Lisa for one of the few excellent Lisa storylines of the entire show, The Crepes of Wrath and The Telltale Head also always remained favorites. Really, all 13 episodes are quite good.

Watch season 1, it's rough but entertaining. Skip "Life on the Fast Lane" though, I've never really cared for it and find it the most boring episode of the bunch. "Some Enchanted Evening" still remains one of my favorite episodes actually, next to "Krusty gets Busted"

Hey, I was just trying to put together my top 3 so if he was only going to watch a few season 1 episodes he could see how good it is. Like I said, I think it's all worth watching.

This. Season 1 has its charms. It was definitely more grounded than what came after.

I love season 1, it's all worth watching eventually...the roughness is part of the charm. A good abbreviated selection of episodes before jumping into season 2 would be:

"Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire"
"There's No Disgrace Like Home"
"Moaning Lisa"
"Life On The Fast Lane"
"The Crepes Of Wrath"
"Krusty Gets Busted"

Those are the absolute classics IMO, and a great showpiece episode for every member of the family. Krusty Gets Busted is my favorite of the season (and the funniest), and includes the necessary Sideshow Bob debut.

Then revisit the other s1 episodes later.
