So, who's gonna win tonight? Duff or Duff Dry?

Funny to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform "Give It Away" on national television after it was apparently too risque for Krusty.

Krusty: Now, boys, the network has a problem with some of your lyrics. Do you mind changing them for the show?
Anthony Kiedis: Forget you, clown.
Chad Smith: Yeah, our lyrics are like our children, man. No way.
Krusty: Well, okay, but here where it says, "What I got, you gotta get and put it in you," how about just, "What I'd like, is I'd like to hug and kiss you."
Flea: Wow. That's much better.
Arik Marshall: Everyone can enjoy that.

Would the world judge me harshly if I threw away the key?
No, but the PTA would tear ye a new arse!
Wise counsel, William, but the potty talk adds nothing.
Aye, sir. Ya bath takin', underpants wearing lily hugger!

To be fair, they did add animations to Maggie instead.

It doesn't look as good, agreed, but it's a weird thing to suddenly focus on.

Its something i've never been able to reconcile with the modern animation.

They just lost some of the humanity in the switch-over. Its hard to explain, but the body movements, even eye-movements just became sterile and lifeless.

It's all digital now. And the lines are thinner now that it's HD and they don't need to be so thick anymore.

Yes, I know that. I was adding to the comment above mine regarding how the thinner lines contribute to the sterility that poster noted, not what the technical reason for the thinner lines is (which is moot since we all know animation has been digital for some time...).

Ah yes. The digital computer age has destroyed the art of animation. Shame it can't have any real flair because the animators would rather use tools and mice instead of styluses and pressure sensitivity to make it look more realistic. Do any modern cartoons have any sort of realistic flair to them these days? i.e. they look like they were drawn by hand instead of computer?

I wonder if the simpsons could be broadcast live now?

I too yearn for the days when cel animation was used to make cartoons (I think there's only one show left in possibly the whole world doing it, in Japan). It's just a shame that it's since become a lost art, especially since it's easier to archive if the cels are photographed onto film. I very much doubt that many shows that were done digitaly are gonna be given a HD remaster for that reason.

And I'm pretty certain that most digital cartoons are still hand drawn. It's just that they're scanned and then coloured in on the computer.

Naaa. It would still be a real strain on the animator's wrist.

Well, yeah. They're still drawn by hand, usually with a stylus, but the program they use smooths out the lines and makes them the same width so there's no roughness or thickness differing you'd get with the old seasons. Plus you can copy and paste frames and just move parts at a time. It just makes the whole process easier. But in the end it also explains why that Marge+Maggie opening GIF exists. In the olden days, every frame was drawn by hand, so the animators put a flourish into her head spin. Now all they had to do was draw the head, maybe in a sort of 3D program, and apply a spin to it and bam, it's done. But it lost what made it great. Maggie shaking her fist doesn't make up for it as it's also just a looping animation of a computer program moving a bunch of vectors around. Not someone drawing her arm over and over in a slightly different position each time.

This is animation for today. It all depends on if the animators have a good enough attention to details to make the world more alive and realistic.

From reddit.

Yeardley Smith strictly does one job... but she does it well, so it's all good.

It's fun that they chose a woman to do Bart's voice because they did the same thing in the french version (which is really good, I'd rather watch in the original language, but I'm glad they didn't mess it all up in french). I guess it's because Bart is supposed to be a little boy.

Seriously though, it's been 25 years... must be great to have a childhood lasting that long (but also frustrating).

Have you seen "Paperman" (it's a bonus short film on the Wreck it Ralph disc)?

The animators tried to blend 3D and hand-drawing in a creative new way, and it won an Academy Award, so of course Disney had to fire half of the animators who worked on it.

Now that folks have their LEGO houses built, they're recreating classic Simpsons moments for posterity...

Also, later this year you will be able to buy Simpsons MiniFigures that don't look like complete ass...

Those aren't the same as the ones included with the house, right ? I wonder why they did that.

Actually, I heard those two guy who made Aladdin and the like, are planning on making a new movie in the visual style of Paperman, set for release a few years from now (2018, I think).

Yes. I have seen it on YouTune.

That's awesome. I haven't found a spot to display mine yet but I'd love to do a scene or something. I wish I had a LEGO elephant to recreate that.

Also, how do we know they won't look like ass? There aren't any shots of the figures there. Just blank people carcasses.

I have a few ideas for some other sets I hope they make. This is one LEGO theme I would buy everything of.

Oh sure, I'm sure that some of them will be underwhelming. But the Homer you can buy separately is already a huge improvement. The only figure included with the set I'm not sure they could significantly improve on is Maggie.

Some of the obvious choices for additional sets would be Springfield Elementary, Moe's Tavern, the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant (granted it wouldn't be to scale), the Springfield Retirement Castle, the First Church of Springfield and the Kwik-E-Mart.

Some of them would probably just be partial dioramas. But I'd buy them.

I'd like to see a Kwik-E Mart entire set with Apu, the three bullies, Snake (with his car) and maybe throw Milhouse in if he doesn't get his own set somewhere.

Also Moe's would be obvious. Moe, Barney, some other patrons.

A SNPP set with Lenny, Carl, Mr. Burns and Smithers.

They could sell the family separately for people who don't want to buy the house.

from what I heard that's her only voice range
Yeardley may have limited vocal range but her acting ability more than makes up for it. A bunch of sites (IMDB, TVTropes, assorted Simpsons wikis) have credited her with voicing Zia Simpson in Holidays of Future Passed but I'm inclined to think that was Nancy Cartwright as Zia lacks Yeardley's patented nasal twang.
