The State of Palestine is now an Interpol Member

BBC News said:
The international policing body backed membership for "the State of Palestine" at its annual general assembly.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki declared the news a "victory", made possible by the "principled position" of most Interpol members.

Israel tried to delay the vote, arguing that Palestine was not a state and therefore ineligible for membership.

Israel says the only way for the Palestinians to achieve their goal of an independent state is through a negotiated peace settlement.

[...]

Interpol said membership applications by "the State of Palestine" and the Solomon Islands were both approved by a two-thirds majority on Wednesday. Israeli media reported that 75 members voted "yes", 24 voted "no", and 34 abstained.

"On this joyous occasion, the State of Palestine reiterates its commitment to upholding its obligations and contributing to fighting crime and furthering the rule of law," Mr Maliki said in a statement.

Israel's Deputy Minister for Diplomacy, Michael Oren, criticised the vote, writing on Twitter: "By admitting 'Palestine', which praises terrorists of the past and refuses to condemn those of today, Interpol makes the world less safe."

KK now lets see it.

Actions, Meatwad.

Good.

I hope that Palestine can be recognized in an official capacity at all levels and organizations, if only to draw further scrutiny towards the actions taken against them by the Israeli government.

I'm Jewish and I want to tell Bibby to just let it go man.

Would there really be terrorists in Palestine if the the IDF and the Israeli government were treating the Palestinians much better? I mean, what is it going to take to have peace? Why can't that be a reality.

This is the kind of thing that makes me wonder why Bibi supports Trump.

Kerry was able to prevent it, does Tillerson even know this happened?

If you admit that terrorism is the result of societal factors, the entire political worldview of Likud is basically invalidated. Bibi only holds on to power by antagonising the Palestinians and then pointing to the retaliations as evidence of why Israel needs a hardliner.

I want peace with Palestine but if there was ever a corrupt governing body the pa is as corrupt as they get.

I don't really see how them and any legit police force can connect.

An interesting point. America built diplomatic credit elsewhere which it repeatedly spent on protecting Israel from critique for the occupation.

Even apart from having an incompetent diplomatic apparatus, do we even have the chits to call in any more to stop something like this?

If you treat someone as illegitimate they have no reason to behave any other way. That's why demonization is effective politically, it assures the outcast group has no behavioral incentive to behave properly because they will be treated the same regardless of their actual choices.

Give people expectations and they will often improve, if not always meet them perfectly.

Or is the new leadership even aware of the intricate games our old diplomatic apparatus was playing to stall the Palestinian statehood drive? Lots of institutional knowledge that probably went out the window.

hmm a side effect of Trump and his incompetency could be a weakening of Israels position. they might be force to do a deal at some point. lol that would be ironic.

Seriously.
I‘m all pro-Israel, but these double standards made by Israel are ridiculous..
Finally give the Palestinians their country..

It is a shame with what Bibi is doing. But it takes a progressive people to vote for someone else.

They almost did is the sad thing. Bibi would've lost, but then he amped up the racial rhetoric to a 10, and ended up scraping together a coalition. It was disgusting as fuck. It really hurt my opinion on Israel as whole. I know it's not a monolith, but still. Must be how every other country thinks about America with Trump.
