I've been watching this season a few weeks behind mostly, so I've been out of the loop in terms of other reactions to the season. But I still figured (correctly) I'd be an outlier in my feelings about it: this is the best current horror series.

A lot of it is shoddily acted and the dialogue is usually shit, I can't argue that. Through it all this show commits to a variety of novel horror ideas, has a fun and diverse cast, and always looks so expressive and garish. Draws from 00s torture porn, classic vampire stories, weird late 80s horror action. The political subplot, Gus and the vampire rebels, Eichorst's craziness, so much of the show is messy and ham-fisted but it's endlessly watchable and frequently offers an angle on vampire/zombie horror I haven't yet seen. Granted, I could only stick through 2.5 seasons of TWD's wash of grays and browns and repetitive meditations on oh my people are sooo evil look at these new depths look look, and never even made it beyond one episode of AHS's shallow boring attempts at sexual transgression. (And as it's canceled I'm not counting Hannibal, though I suspect I'll like that even more when I get around to it.) But I'm pretty confident The Strain is just my speed.

I'd say it's second best after the amazing Penny Dreadful.

AHS fell off a cliff after Asylum and TWD/FTWD have a total of one great episode between the both of them (Walking Dead's pilot). I hope Ash vs Evil Dead ends up great too.

I would have to agree that this is the best recent horror show on tv, but it's also one of a kind in many aspects. I think, just like any Guillermo del Toro work, The Strain has its own unique feel about it. He's just so good at making traditional monsters something completely new that feels so compelling and awesome, yet gross.

AHS was good.... the first two seasons? I'm still going to watch Hotel though. You never know, with these random themed seasons, when it'd going to be a hit or miss.

I never got into TWD as the sheer amount of drama, kids and human stupidity put me off the show. I heard it got better, I might get back to it sometime, when I feel like watching a soap opera while the world is ending. People need to learn that there is no place for children in the apocalypse. As proven by Zach Goodweather.

I do hope Ash vs the Evil Dead is good too, as I'm a huge fan of the films :D FINGERS CROSSED.

I keep forgetting Ash vs Evil Dead is a real thing that's going to be on actual television. Long as Raimi stays closely involved in it I can only see it being great.

The tv show is really doing things differently from the book in some ways.

Yeah
Nora survives till the end in the books.

Plus I wonder if the series if it lasts after season 3 will have the budget for what Book 3 does or will change it around.

Plus for the show it seems the national guard has pulled out.

Sucks about
Nora
but with that 3rd rail chekov gun you had to see it coming.

They're gonna bring back the old Zack actor. They tried New Zack and no one liked it so now they're going back to Zack Classic. I can hope. Hah.

Doc Holliday

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
Uhm why are the ancients and the German bothering with an auction being held by Marlo stanfield when they can just take it? I mean they're fucking vampires lol

Dude had a small army of gang members with automatic weapons. 15 Latino gang dudes took out Eichorst's swarm easy enough.

Wow.....:can't believe they did that to
nora

I mean that has HUGE ramifications for story and plot and end game and just wow

This fight in the streets over the book is awesome.

Edit: Of course, they conveniently stop over a manhole. Lol.

Holy shit, that subway bit. Awesome.

I don't like this show any more. Love all the actors but all this vampire shit is cheesy.

It was best before and during the breakdown.

Now its like a Saturday morning cartoon with different plots every week to overthrow the evil overlord.

Sucks for Nora :'(

Just glad that Zach finally left, wellbye.gif

I sort of want to see Fet turned into a immortal killing machine but that would go against his morals.

Still upset that the Master didn't kill both Coco and Eldritch :/

This season was a bit slow for me but it had its ups and downs. Like others have said, it's so bad that it's good entertainment.

Zack continues to be an asshole to the end.
Kinda cliche how out of nowhere Nora and Eph's love life come to surface because she's going to meet her end
and fuck you Coco just because you have a sugar Daddy you think you're all that

really enjoyed the season. only thing I hate is Zack which will be back

First of all, fuck Zack's aint shit ass. But tonight's shit was kind of Nora. Why the hell did she straight up ditch Eph? You can't be ditching dudes and running off with their kids.

I rarely get super emotional over a TV show or movie, but I actually yelled at my TV after today's episode.

I feel like there's no way to redeem Zach's character at this point. They need to turn his ass and have him die at the hands of one of the good guys. He should die a terrible and painful death for being a insufferable character.

How can he just casually walk away with his mother after she attacked Nora like that.

Good finale. This was a good show for the summer. Can't wait for another season!

Gosh as a book reader I'm shocked at how the show is deviating.
Killing nora off just changed so much for the end game for the show.... I don't know if I'm pissed but I'm definitely a little disappointed as nora had a much better arc and played an important role in the books.

I find the stuff they add more annoying than what they leave out - and this season added plenty and spent too much time with sidequests instead of advancing the story and when it did, it happened at a grueling slow pace. The whole Long Island story arc felt strange to me and didn't relly help me in getting a clear picture of what was going on in the city. Restaurants serving customers, construction crews doing there job, cars and people on the streets... while city officials are already acting crazy and present dead mutilated bodies like trophies to the press and send police kill squads out to clean up appartment buildings? Felt out of tune to me.
Dutch, Fet and the 3rd wheel. Do we really need stuff like this in a series about nazi vampires taking over New York?
And Coco... Coco was really just a love interest for Palmer. I still can't believe it. That character screamed hidden agenda but she was just a red shirted Bond-girl. I don't see why they added this. After being denied immortality time and time again, does Eldritch Palmer need any more reason to hate the Master? Is a lover you've known for a couple of weeks a stronger reason than his life-long desire? She had so much screen time! Why the fuck did I have to watch this?

Should've been more of the Silver Angel instead, but nope. Biggest letdown for me this season. Introducing Gus, but barely showing him in action was a waste of potential.

Nora never learned the most important lesson: ignore Zach.

Oh good, Coco amounted to zilch. Palmer gets to have sentimental talks with a heart in a jar next year.

For $323 million, you can't let Fet and Setrakian spend the night instead of immediately going out into the night?

At least Vincenzo Natali injected some visual style into the show.

Felt like they just did that just so they can say, "See? Our show is now definitely totally separate from the books! Now you'll be surprised!"

I might say goodbye to this show. It continues to underwhelm and never seems to go above programming you watch while folding laundry and doing the dishes. I'm actually glad the actor gets to move onto better things. Only thing I've really enjoyed this season was Councilwoman Justine.
