He picked the least liked property they have, which means he can basically have free reign to do anything he wants. It's a superhero movie with no rules basically. Maybe the only rule being, Harley can't die. Most everything else seems up in the air and ready for him to just go nuts with. They're all expendables, and they're criminals, and it's not a popular IP. He can throw in as many messed up scenes as he wants.
He basically did the Disney version of this with Guardians 1. By Guardians 2, he was basically being told to make it more kid friendly. This is him getting to be his true self and throw in a lot more violence and dark humor. Should be great!

Birds of Prey was also supposed to be a reboot and then had several references to Suicide Squad.
I think the reboot stuff will start when The Flash screws up the universe with his solo film.

I hope it's the opposite of the original Suicide Squad. What I mean by that is I thought the OG Suicide Squad trailers were fantastic, but the movie sucked ass. I thought this trailer sucked, but hopefully the movie is good.

If I remember correct, the OG Suicide Squad trailers were dark and kind of disturbing. This is a James Gunn movie, which means it's full of cheesy quips and edge lord humor.
half the characters will probably die before the movie ends.
My opinion on the trailer is that it looks fun. Will definitely watch when it comes out, just annoyed that it is so far away.

He was originally planned to appear, but since the original script was scrapped, the filming was delayed and scheduling conflicts happened. Elba was originally cast as Deadshot, but the character was later changed to Bloodsport so Smith could return in the future.

Or early on Xforce style. Gunn will have his own splashy take on the deaths having budget and uniqueness. Too many characters won't be the problem, only "are there enough?". Good idea using recognizable actors. Cast of characters looks properly fleshed out, enough for plenty of expendables without overwhelming.
They all better die. It is what is expected. Deaths for all ages and occasions.
