The Tasting of Weird and Unique Sodas |OT|

So two years ago, I made a thread about having Candied Bacon Cream soda...

This is the bottle for reference.

Well I just finished drinking it...

That was one of the best drinks I've ever had. It had just the right amount of sweetness to it. I'll definitely have to get this again in the future.

Then I decided to try a bit of Prickly Pear soda...

This is a strange bump but...

I decided to continue trying strange sodas and opened up a bottle of this.

Never in my life have I had any food or drink that is cactus related. I've only had a couple of sips so far and I'm not even sure how to describe it. Will update after drinking the full bottle.

That was one of the worst drinks I've ever had. It had some weird vegetable taste that just led into a sour flavor without any good complement. In other words, it was absolutely disgusting.

I shortly realized that despite not liking that particular drink, I wanted to start a hobby of trying unique sodas. After all this time, I finally remembered to make the thread.

For now I'll start off with a something most people probably haven't had before.

Dandelion & Burdock

This is a botanically brewed soda by Fentiman's. The first thing I noticed was its flavor. There's a vegetable like quality to this drink, unlike your regular fountain drink you may find at a restaurant. It's much more earthy and root like in taste, reminding me of herbal teas much more than sugary sweet drinks. It's also very light and bubbly in texture, making it easy to drink and a nice compliment to meals.

Anyone here is free to post their own soda tasting experiences of all kinds.

I was in a candy specialty store recently that had a lot of niche sodas. There was a cinnamon one that caught my eye (but not enough to actually remember anything about it, haha.)

Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray celery-flavored soda is one of my favorites. It is oddly refreshing. I have not yet discovered an alcoholic cocktail using it, though.

Dandelion and Burdock is pretty popular here in the UK, I don't drink it very often myself but I enjoy some now and again, it's like a more earthy root beer.

If any of you can get a hold of Irn-Bru please try some, it's the nectar of the gods.

I had expected this to be a Bagels thread due to his love of obscure things and Moxie. Which I've still been unable to find locally.

I think I've tried most of the Fentimans drink line over the last ten years. They have some good stuff. Rose Lemonade and Curiosity Cola are the standouts there in my opinion.

Birch beer (Boylan's Creamy Red) is great, but isn't too much different from other similar drinks like ginger beer or sarsaparilla. I'm a big fan of all different kinds of root or herbal based sodas though. Nice to have once in a while to mix things up.

I've also had the dubious good fortune of getting to try a few of the odd Jones Soda flavors and they tend to run true to the labeled flavor. Some of those things should never have been turned into soda pop, while others bear the transition shockingly well. The stand out in impression so far has been a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich one, which wasn't exceptionally good or bad, but it was a perfect replica of the flavor of a Goober Grape sandwich.

Three other standouts for me: Julmust is fantastic but only available near Christmas, Americana Black Cherry makes the best floats ever, and Cock'n Bull Cherry Ginger Beer is probably my overall favorite standalone bottle.
