The Truth about Nintendo

Jesus, this guy's trying way to hard. It's like he came up with his argument: "Nintendo is doing better than you all think" and then decided to completely manipulate truth to its ends.

Like comparing GBA sales to PS2 sales as if a GBA will generate more profit in the long run than a PS2, in spite of their shitty tie ratios.

Or saying the Xbox and GCN worldwide race is too close to call... and then quoting the sales to date FOR 2003, BEFORE Xbox started pulling away and GCN lost support.

Ick.

I think Nintendo will do a lot better next gen, and they're certainly healthy, but this is obnoxious.

i didn't read the whole thing, but anyway...

WAKE-UP CALL
I’ve written this article, researched the facts and drawn up these graphs not out of some foolish fanboy spite for Microsoft and Sony (if it was, I wouldn’t have included the above section) :lol , but to show to you, the reader, the real present state of Nintendo. Whether it’s the multiplatform magazines or even Nintendo fansites, there has been a peculiar laziness among gaming journalists in researching the market race, leading gamers everywhere to make broad statements such as: “Nintendo will go the way of Sega,” “Nintendo will never be #1 again,” or “Nintendo is #3 behind Sony and Microsoft.”

In fact, even if Nintendo were to get killed in market share, Nintendo would still be alive and well, as long as it continued making profit. Market share is only one piece of the puzzle. But anyway you spin it, Nintendo is doing quite well for itself as a company.

It’s time to start the discussion. It’s time to challenge the mainstream press, which has been able to dominate the public’s perception of Nintendo for far too long. It’s time to challenge the conventional ways of thinking and begin intelligent gaming discourse.
:lol Get your pitch fork and torches fellas! It's time to rally the troops for "intelligent gaming discourse".

sorry, but even as a Nintardo myself I have to say this guy sounds like a bit of a wanker.

Pretty old my friend.

And it seems like Nintendo doesn't have to worry anymore about the PSP, since it's hardly selling anyway. Besides, it wasn't eating into their market anyway, they are selling tons of DSes, probably even more if they just released it without the PSP as competition.

Its time to give it up boys, Nintendo has officially become a Religion and its obvious who the true believers are :)

Going strong since 1985 baby NES,SNES,VB,N64,GC and soon REV

I'm a huge fan of Nintendo's games, but jesus their fans are annoying.

There are people like this waving flags for every company, sadly. Nintendo's are a little more audible because they're trying to shout down the doomsayers.

Personally, I hate the whole thing because there's a lot of legitimate criticism of Nintendo that I'd love to see get some attention, but between the two extremes, any intelligent middle ground has long since been trampled to mud. Once in a while I still try, and it always turns to crap real fast.

Much like Tool and Smashing Pumpkins, I'm always ready to write off Nintendo without a second thought due to the undeniable obnoxiousness of their fans.

Their are fanboys on all sides, I don't think anyone would try to argue that. The point Andy seems to be trying to make, and I agree with, is Nintendo fans just always seem to be the most obnoxious and zealot of the bunch. Just check the Nintendo forums for evidence.

- Nintendo "People are bored with gaming, we are creating a Revolution"
- Nfans suddenly out of nowhere "I'm finding myself bored with gaming and i'm wanting a Revolution" - Fan only owns a N64, Gamecube, GBA and DS, this is exact description of one of my friends and i'm positive matches more then a few posters here.

- Nintendo "We feel people don't want HD"
- Nfans "We don't care about HD, i'm not buying a HD set for years, in fact I hate HD, I don't want a better picture and i'm gimping myself"

What do you mean the PSP is hardly selling? For a portable to come in and take approx. 30% of the next gen handheld market share against Nintendo, I'd say it's doing pretty well. I just don't understand when people say the PSP "isn't selling" if it's not beating the DS.

It's incredible the way you make a point, then contradict it, in the very same sentence.

HOLY SHIT!
The guy who wrote that article is the same guy who got me into E3 2003.
He's also the guy who tried to convince me Nintendo was winning the console war because GBA sales were so high. I tried to explain that handhelds and home consoles aren't counted together, but he starting yelling and whining.

Huh, how does that work? Or am I just missing the irony?

The truth is in the newest EGM:

“Visually impaired

The Q hates being the bearer of bad news, but it comes with the territory (at least that’s what the rumormonger handbook says). During a recent powwow with a few well-known gamemakers, some discussed their hands-on time with early Revolution development kits. OK, here it goes: According to those fellas, the graphics that Nintendo’s next-gen system can produce are barely better than those on GameCube. Hey, sounds a lot like Xbox-Xbox 360.”

That was nearly coherent. Good job there

For the rest of you folks, I was joking with my original post. Of course, you'd have to be as easily lead on as a Nintendo fan to have taken it seriously.

It's not true people!

Man oh man. It's been like a month since I got in some good Nintendo bashing. Can you believe I almost forgot where I put my bashing stick?

-Nintendo's revolution: Hundreds* of middle aged men and Japanese children flailing their arms about while holding a controller in a room most likely filled with expensive breakables.

-Nintendo's revolution: Why play new games when you could have the potential to play games that are going on 20 years on your brand spankin' new console?

-Nintendo's revolution: WoooOooo hey! hey! over here Yeah! you! we're still relevant ya know! HelooOooooo? hey! don't you walk away while I'm talking to you! :lol

*numbers are estimates only, possibly increased or decreased for comedic effect

...

That sucked. How do you fail Drinky's Nintendo Trolling and Making Children Cry University? :lol

I think some (note I said some, not all) Nintendo fans are more obsessed with Nintendo regaining "old glory" than Nintendo is.

Honestly I think Nintendo couldn't give a shit about PS3 or XBox 360 or being the no.1 company. If Revolution sells more along N64-levels for Nintendo (30+ million) and creates some cash cow "genre expanding" new franchises like what Brain Training and Nintendogs have done for DS ... Nintendo will be very, very happy.

I'm a Nintendo fan and I'll say it right now -- Nintendo is not going to be no.1. They're probably not going to be no.2 even. But I think they can grow and establish a new style of gaming, which will restore a lot of the brand luster they lost with GameCube.

I really despise these articles. I love Nintendo games but these articles have to stop. I didn't even have to click the link thanks to Juice.

I don't understand what the problem with the article is. It seems to me that he is meerly pointing out that besides all the doom and gloom talk, Nintendi is still the market leader overall.

He makes a valid point, correct?

Sure it's a little preachy, and almost borderline, well, wierd, but there's truth to it.

What's that supposed to mean? How about actually posting something other then an image, and escaping conversation as many GAF members do.

Pussy.

Because he's falling back on the classic Nintendo Fan defense of bringing up Nintendo Handheld sales. He's taken it a step further though by combining those numbers with Gamecube sales and using those comparisons in his graphs. He's also calling out all other media as somehow being biased or with agendas and he is without and then turns around and only uses numbers that further his own skewed agenda besides the aforementioned using handheld sales in comparison to consoles. Apples and oranges here. If you can't see the problem with this, then, well nothing more really needs to be said.
