HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 I need your input on this. How would you feel about the reporters picking up ladies during your game.

Shooting his shot, can't hate him for that :)

The beat writers in my day were old balding men that were 50 lbs over weight so doubt they would have faired well

I think it was maybe ARod that got some fans digits from tossing a baseball to her from the dugout writing on a note on it

Sitting in the bullpen have certainly seen players ask fans to come party after games :)

That guy got the digits too.
I guess AROD is known for playing the field type of guy. What type of party was after a game?

I guess you were married playing ball.

I was married early in my career as we met in college and she knew my goal was to play pro baseball but she couldn't handle how much I was gone so we divorced.

I met my current wife in 1998 right at the end of my career and we have been together since (she was actually a physical therapist assistant that helped me with my shoulder)

And some of the parties after games are exactly what people imagine they are especially in the proper cities

I have a close friend that was going to be a Major League pitcher and when he hurt his shoulder to many times he never made it. But his wife was expecting him to be gone a lot, and then when he wasn't they had to adjust. They said it was pretty tough adjusting to being around each other all the time. I hope your physical therapist wife still massages your shoulders.

Always interested in learning a part of a a lifestyle I will know nothing about. Being a popular pro athlete and traveling and all that goes along with it.

I think down deep my ex didn't think I would make it and was attending college to be an international lawyer

My current wive loves baseball and loved attending as many games as she could the 2 years we dated before I retired in 2000

And my wife does still help with the manipulation of my shoulder especially on days it doesn't want to get loose

And I have never minded about talking about that lifestyle as its something most people never imagined and I don't mean that in the all glamorous aspect, just mean the amount of hours dedicated to working on the craft just to get to be able to play at that level

Reporting to the stadium 6 to maybe 8 hours before first pitch to receive medical and start stretching and go through all your prep work then shag fly balls in batting practice to the last hour before the game to put in your mental prep then for someone like me might not even get into a game then leave the stadium around midnight and try to fall asleep which was insanely hard just to get up at 6 AM the next day to get your run in and start all over

So many people I have met over the years have been like "oh you played a kids game" people have zero clue what it took to get there and to stay there

I do not have the discipline. And I understand people see some baseball players and think "I could do that, it looks easy" when countless hours went into making it look like that. I could hit a ball in High school but I only think those kids through in the 70s at their peak. And I was a poor first baseman because if the throw was in the dirt I was going to have a hard time with it. I would yell "put it at my waist at least".

I am a good slow pitch softball pitcher so I feel like I know all the training you went through.

I loved slow pitch softball for years after retiring, we played in so many coed tourneys over the years as my wife was a decent athlete as well

I was always amazed at the guys who could show up out of shape and not put in the work and get the ok just to show up like an hour before first pitch and could still hammer the ball or chuck it 95 without much effort

I literally took one week off of training when season ended, that was my splurge week every year

After that during offseason I still worked my ass off as I wasn't the most gifted (proof just staying a relief pitcher) so I had to try and outwork everyone
