At first yeah, but after you beat it, you know all the meetings are scripted. Now Prime, that had AMAZING atmosphere, the world, the music, it all came together to scare the shit out of me. FUCKING CHOZO GHOST!!!

True but I still love Fusion. I'd love to see a 3D metroid try something like Fusion again but with unscripted encounters.

Poor BurntPork, ran out of quarters and can't continue. :(

Actually, there were a lot of NeoGAFfers with grey names in threads like the 3DS screen one. I wonder what happened... Like Truth101. :( But oh well.

Anyway, I patiently await IdeaMan's thread, though I have a slight feeling it'll be underwhelming. :p

Guys, which thread and page did the demented Reggie faces start? I'm wading through thread 4 and not finding them.

I think this is what you want: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=469930&page=49

Yes! I avoided rooms with chozo ghosts like the plague. God I love Metroid Prime.

Super Metroid is tops for me followed by Other M and the first Prime. The original and II are right after that. Don't care for the rest of them. I'm hoping we get a 2D Metroid next even though chances are we're just getting FPS(A) Metroids from now on.

No, its a fake logo image made by me. I'm annoyed by the now 10+ inch width of the new wuc design (bigger than iPad!). To protest I took the logo and stretched it out to ridiculous proportions.

----

p.s. - does anyone have good estimations of how wide the touchscreen itself will likely be?

I thought it just looked wider due to being more narrow, didn't know it was actually wider.

You are probably right. They skipped 2D Metroid even on the DS, not a good sign.

2D Metroid seems dead and gone :(

There's nothing creepier than the Chozo ghosts, or the lower depths of the Phazon Mines. NOTHING!

Those ghosts scared the shit out of me. I was so happy that they brought back their music in Prime 3!

When it comes to Metroid, Fusion and Prime surprised and amazed (and disappointed) the heck out of me. Here you have a 2D Metroid game made by some of the same team that made Super Metroid, and a 3D first-person Metroid game made by some American company, both games coming out at about the same time. And yet, in the end Fusion was hardly a Metroid game at all, while Metroid Prime felt like the perfect evolution of Super Metroid. It was a complete reversal of my expectations.

My biggest problem with Fusion was, there was little exploration, which is the core of Metroid games - it was actually level-based, with the way to the next level not getting a new ability that let you get past a blockage you may or may not have noticed before, but instead finishing the previous level made the computer open the next one in the hub. You would be told exactly where to go in the next level, and even what you would fight and what you would get for beating it. The new powers you got helped get past blockages in the next level, but that didn't give it a feeling of exploration. The only real exploration through most of the game was for people who wanted to find the hidden optional links between the levels, and people who wanted to collect all the missile containers.

So if a new Metroid game is to hit the Wii-U, I sure as heck hope they base it on classic Metroidesque exploration, even if the story presentation must suffer.

Imagine, right now, Reggie, Iwata and Miyamoto are probably at a table or in a conference call brainstorming on how they'll do things on stage this year.

What to say. What games to reveal, etc.
No, right now Iwata and Miyamoto are discussing this GIF, and trying to figure out how to sneak it into the official press conference without Reggie knowing.

I would think so. And certainly hope so, since this is one of the most unremarkable and blandest consoles I've seen.

As long as something on the console itself glows (like the disc slot) and it's available in a color other than white, I will be quite satisfied. I'm at the point where I'd buy a hot pink console before I buy a white one.

It'd be an excellent bonus if the console looked like a 90s console rather than what we've been getting lately.

Ditto. Wii looked cool at first, but I'm sick of the clinical look after this gen. And the known WiiU design currently takes it even to another level. At least give us black, for the love of god.

So, since we got a redesign of the controller, should we expect a redesign of the console too?
It's going to be made of the same material as the 3DS casing, be available in 5 colors at launch, and have a glowing Nintendo logo that changes color based on what's happening in the game (the same thing happens to the edges of the Home button on the controller).

As much as I would love them to launch the console in multiple colors or something not white, I don't see them doing so. I do want a different color, but I might have to buy a second Wii U sometime down the line to get a different color. Well, that's if I decide to get one before they release another color :P

I'm expecting a console redesign, but I don't see it changing much.

Does anyone have handy the patent number for the updated wii u controller? I'm at the US patent website and am not having luck locating it.

I've done the same thing with the Wii. I bought a black backup Wii that's backwards-compatible just so that I have a way to play GameCube games going into the future. Some of my favorites aren't going to make it onto the Virtual Console, I'd bet, so I like a redundant backup plan..

It's a 6.2 inch screen, with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Doing the math gives the dimensions of 4.96 x 3.72

Thanks. That would mean there is around 2.5 inches on either side for the controls. On the old model is was 2". Gamecube's is 5 and 1/4 across.

How do you have a podcast on E3 Predictions without mentioning Nintendo at all?

I'm still amazed that media outlets have decided that ignoring/mistreating an entire fanbase is a sound financial decision. I mean, Nintendo only dominates the traditional handheld space and was the lead marketshare console this time around. They've only been around for a few decades. And their fans are only the craziest, most clinically insane, willing to throw-around their money for almost anything with the name "Nintendo" attached to it.

What happens to such outlets if, Farore forbid, one of the other console makers exits? Do these outlets just offer non-insulting coverage for the one other remaining console that isn't Nintendo? It just reeks of no long-term consideration.

(pardon my ranting..)
