I think some have said it will most likely be capable of getting PS4/720 ports as long as publishers and developers want to bring those titles to the system. Personally, I don't care as long as it's slightly better than 360 graphics. I'm no graphic whore, so if they port a majority of the games I want to play then I'll be sticking with a console and a handheld this coming gen.

Well I'm not exactly optimistic about that right now, and won't be until I actually see a bunch of ports of PS4/720 games on shelves.

So my plans to kill time between the end of this week (end of the semester for me) and E3 is to finally complete Mega Man 2. I still have not finished the game and I'm in the last area. It's hard and I haven't touched the game in almost a year.

Aside from posting in this thread and suffering, anyone plan to complete at least one game in their backlog?

Working on New Super Mario Brothers Wii...

Oh wait, backlog???? I already completed it.

Maybe I should open up Trauma Center for Wii as I got it days before the system came out and it's still in the wrapper.

I hear there's meltdowns. What news gave said meltdowns? Links? I need the tears to taste as delicious as possible. Context is the seasoning.

Considering a brand new games costs $50 while a 360 costs $99.... you could buy a 360 and five great games you have never played for the price of three new Wii games. Since most of us will be buying a Wii-U this Fall, I doubt $150 is out of any of our budgets.
A brand new 360 costs $200, $280 with Kinect, both packages without hard drives. If you are talking about the 2 year contract, that's basically $99 plus $360 worth of monthly charges.

I would rather have the option to pick Arkham City October of last year then..... whatever the Wii had outside of Skyward Sword and Fortune Street. That philosophy will most likely still hold true even after I graduate.
I'm talking about Wii-U, not Wii, and the Wii-U will most likely get the majority of multiplatform releases. And what it doesn't get, my PC will. If I had gotten a single console this gen, it would have been PS3, that's the system I've played the most games on this gen.

Pikmin is going the Animal Crossing route and EAD Tokyo's offices were destroyed by a barrage of water balloons.

And the next Zelda will be a sidescroller remake of II.

Eh..these are nothin'. Pitiful, little teensy moments of mini-drama.

The main course is in three weeks. Don't scarf these mini-bites down and spoil your appetite!

Oh, didn't know you were talking about older systems with prices dropped.

I guess I get the systems when they come out if I really want them and if I wanted them at this point or a little while back, then another round of new consoles is on the way and I'd be more inclined to be interested in them.

Plus handhelds and all that but yeah, I suppose you could get a good deal nowadays on multiple systems or a system and games.

Well yeah I'm not expecting that many buy all three day one. Hell I just bought a PS3 myself last year. Damn it was good playing all three Uncharteds for the first time two months apart and catching up on MGS4, Demon Souls, etc.

I'm just sayin, there are so many great games that can be accessed for pretty cheap nowadays. If some of you really are caught up on not wanting to support Microsoft/Sony, then just buy everything used. :lol

I picked up a used Arcade 360 for $99 at Gamestop over a year ago (close to two now). I'm not 100% sure how the situation is now, but you can still find 360s for a lot cheaper then $200 that is for sure.

As for a memory solution (for Arcade), almost any usb memory doogle will do.

Jury is still out on multiplatform releases for Wii-U, but that sounds like a good set-up. But then again, having a gaming PC and a Wii-U is hardly a one-console setup.

But I thought that professional pixel counters came to the conclusion that Zelda is 720p?

On the other hand, it's moutherfriggin Reggington

It is the L.A. Times, so perhaps they can be persuaded to do a followup, investigative story to get to the truth.

Here is the original story/video (the one on youtube seems to be poached):

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2012/01/ces-2012-hands-on-with-nintendo-wii-u.html

Can be rendered 720p but displayed 1080p.

That's possible, right?

Yes, but doesn't "Full" mean that its running at a native resolution and not an up-scaled image?

Also, unless you are a casual gamer, I seriously doubt you can't find at least a handful of games you are interested in on the 360/PS3/PC while being a Wii-only owner.

It's not about money at all. And there are plenty of great games exclusive to 360/PS3/PC. Yet here are the video game platforms that occupy my time:

- Wii
- 3DS
- NeoGAF

Between these three things and retro consoles, I have more than enough video games in my life. There are great games on the other platforms, but I really get more than enough games for the platforms I own. It's not a money budget. It's a time budget.

Considering until real news comes out this is basically a glorified chat thread I honestly wonder how well it would do in Community?

Oh also I believe the Wii U's power is 10/1.5 over the 360 but less then 1/√2 power of the nextbox.

That's… really high, more than most are generally expecting the PS4 to be.. You're pretty optimistic about the Wii U if you think it'll be that powerful.

What the hell, I knew that...

Sorry, I didn't realize you were speaking rhetorically there. A lot of people normally confuse upscaling with rendering at a higher resolution.

…"Balloon Fight HD"?

That would be the ultimate online multiplayer game. Call of Duty killer.

Also I remember someone suggesting Ice Climbers where you have deathmatches where everyone throws snowballs at each other and build snow forts and trenches in the snow.

They should consider making Chase Mii with Nintendo characters and make some of the levels quite platformish with such obstacles in more difficult arenas.

I think it'd be fun hiding on top of a Thwomp and at the last second jumping down to a warp pipe pissing off the person that finally got to you.

Honestly Nintendo should take all of their small classic NES games like Balloon Fight, Ice Climbers, Duck Huck, Wrecking Crew, Excitebike, and Donkey Kong...and make full 3D 1080p remakes of them with online multiplayer and leaderboards and bundle them with Wii U's for free on a compilation collection disk like Wii Sports/Wii Play.

Well if it truly is more a time budget, and not a money budget, it seems like you would want to spend your free-time (budget) on the best available experiences. Excluding a 360/PS3/PC is depriving yourself the option of having your free-time occupied by the most enjoyable experiences catered to your liking.

That's what I get from it anyway. I'm really not trying to be a hard-ass here, I'm just trying to understand.

That seems like more work than you'd think.

I'm totally caffeinated right now and I was thinking about Mario and some of the complaints about the NSMB art style (as seemingly no one has a problem with the gameplay)

You know what I would love to see on the WiiU eShop? A 2D Mario game that has the gameplay that we know and love, but with visuals done by an assorted and eclectic group of graphic designers. Each world would have its own unique art style. Could be brilliant, I think.

A set like that would be interesting.

Yes. It's called upscaling, and technically every 1080p display already does it. Every signal you send to a 1080p screen will upscale to fit the 1920x1080 pixel resolution, including the Wii.

None of that matters though. Native resolution is the only important variable in resolution.

Nintendo did release an official 1920x1080 shot of the Zelda Wii U tech demo, but it's clearly an upscale and not native.

I've always wanted to be able to choose among any of the 2D Mario games, then choose the 2D Mario style, so I could play Mario World with Super Mario Bros sprites (with some similarly-styled additions, of course), or Super Mario Bros 3 with Super Mario Land graphics. :D

Between a really good PC and a 3DS, I'm pretty much set. I miss out on a few key PS3/360 exclusives that don't make it to Steam, but I can emulate any Nintendo console currently out (excluding the 3DS) pretty darn well. Unless the Wii U launches with some surprise must-have title, I doubt I'll buy one until a Smash Bros. or Zelda game is released.

I'm still itching to see what Nintendo's plans for the system are, though. This year's E3 is going to be good--I can feel it.

Personally, there's still games out there that I want to try, but I haven't gotten around to. Also, since I don't really care about graphics (obvious if I'm Wii-only on the console-side), I'm not opposed to finding stuff on the VC.

Merely keeping up with the franchises I enjoy takes a lot of gaming time. Then there's always stuff I want to experiment with. Try a game outside of my genre comfort zone. I just don't feel deprived. If anything, I feel overwhelmed by content.

Honestly, I don't think Reggie knows what the hell he is talking about.

He just checks that box! :P

Anyway, we better see a Souls release on Wii U at some point. It's one of the few games where a persistent inventory makes sense within the game design and theme, and benefits the UI and flow of the game.

Also, Yoshi's Island 2 would be tasty to see envisioned on HD hardware. I'm not sure how you pull off Yoshi crapping eggs or even how you 1up the original, but it needs to happen for history.

Some people have a problem with the gameplay, but not enough to make a big issue about it. I remember... I think it was Sega1991 made a post about momentum and how it compared to the 2D games. (All Sonic jokes aside.)

You could even play it up like Mario 64, where you jump into paintings to not only go into different worlds, but the different art styles.

Would be kind of tricky though, changing the art style could have a drastic effect on how one would perceive the physics and collisions to act, which could get tricky balancing and polishing. It would not quite, but almost be like developing 8 games at the same time, if you went with 8 different styles. They could share a lot of content and engine work, but would each need significant individual attention.

Could make for an amazing finale, though, where you're passing through different art styles on the fly.
