It will be posted in its own thread, or here, tomorrow (in 20/24h to be precise). Why not now ? Because as i said, i'm talking with moderators to decide about that.

It's nothing really surprising or unexpected though, don't think it's haptic :)

I agree. Price, date and first look at the OS at the September conference.

Nice breakdown of the conference, pretty much what I'm expecting.

I agree. I think some of the OS features is what Nintendo is most paranoid about competitors copying. For example, if Nintendo announced some sort of StreetPass gamer card or smart phone app, what's to stop Microsoft from writing an app and putting it on smart phone stores next month?

I do really wish they would give us launch MONTH, though.

Ahh, just wondering. I only read this thread every other day or so. Looking forward to it.

I am sorry, I misread the post. I thought you were saying that developers knew about it in March 2010, which I thought was a little weird. haha

Yeah, I would at least hope developers would have heard about it before March 2010. :p I just meant that is the absolute latest it is even possible for them to have heard about it, and that was 11 months from release. We are less than 6 months away from the Wii U launch.

I think the OS is a big focus, so I guess we'll get a sneak peak next week at the very least. Not necessarily during the press conference, though.

Think about it: We all know Microsoft wants the living room. So does Nintendo, albeit for entirely different reasons. Unlike Microsoft, Nintendo doesn't have codecs, servers and DRM solutions to sell (well, they kinda do now that they own Mobiclip, but I don't think they're interested in that sort of stuff), but they're competing for time and attention. They most likely want to become the living room hub as much as Microsoft does, if not more so. The OS is incredibly important in that regard.

Now I fully understand why Go-Nintendo was banned.

One of their rumour links to Zelda Informer, which links back to Go-Nintendo, which links to NeoGAF to a post Go-Nintendo already used for a previous rumour.

What a mess.

I thought that the E3 would be a WiiU blowout? I really hope that they dont hold back a lot of stuff.

It will be a blowout for games. I'm thinking Nintendo will hold back some substantial things though. I think they are thinking they don't want too much information out and just want people to focus on the games right now, but I bet they will comment on online in some form (basic features, "we are really making a commitment to online gameplay with Wii U", etc), but I don't really expect to see too much of the OS.

I'd love to be wrong. I'm just looking at what the did for Wii and 3DS.

I just hope like hell that Nintendo don't try to wow us graphically at E3 because they will look like fools if what you all consider to be the power-level is actually the case.

I don't think they have too much of a choice. They "dug their own grave" when talking about who they wanted to target. Not that they have to show it at this E3, but they will have to be able to show the console is capable of looking better than current consoles and being able to keep up with the next consoles in some fashion.

So, what are the rumored specs for the 720?

At worst it's going to be like PS4, but with more memory.

i5 2500K OC'd to 4.3Ghz, 8GB RAM, and an OC'd GTX 570.

I really need to upgrade my CPU, I am sure it bottlenecks some games like Crysis and GTA IV, those games drop to the low 20's at times and I built my rig in 2011. But most games run fine other than that.

Both CPU heavy and both open world.

Have a Phenom II X4 840 @ 3.2GHz and a HD 5850, 4GB's RAM.

They will probably have most focus on the games indeed. I hope that they will demo the online at least.

While games will inevitably be a huge part of their press conference and attendance at E3, don't forget about the developer discussion with Wii U hardware producer Katsuya Eguchi. While of course an operating system isn't hardware, maybe some features of the OS will be described or mentioned while talking about certain aspects of the hardware (either the controller or in terms of processor, RAM etc.). I don't expect anything deep though.

I honestly wonder what that discussion will be about, and what form it will be in. For easy access, a text discussion would be the most logical choice but that also makes for a rather redundant piece of information detailing exclusively the Wii U Remote. Unless they have hidden some kind of "turbo mode" from the developers, what possibly could they want to talk about unless they have completely changed course and are just going to throw out a lengthy spec sheet?

I, unfortunately, do not have that kind of money to burn :(.

As someone who has never built his own gaming rig, is it expensive to maintain? I've always heard that PC gaming is expensive, expensive to maintain and not 'worth it' over buying consoles, however whenever I compare the PC version of Game X to the console version of Game X, it's obvious the PC version looks nicer and runs smoother (usually).

I'm thinking of investing in a Gaming PC as well as a Wii U, because I figure that way I won't miss out on titles.

My take on the Wii U -> PS4/XB3 power gap:

Given the rumored specs for PS4/XB3, both Sony and MS are probably looking for a 10 year life cycle to recoup R&D costs over the long run (If the 2014 release date for XB3 is true, then the 360 would have been around about that timeframe). But I believe Nintendo is aiming for a typical 5 year cycle for the Wii U.

So for the first 1-2 years, Nintendo will have the only “next gen” console. It will probably then take developers about 2 years to fully tap into the true power of PS4/XB3 (outside 1st party efforts and 3rd party exclusives). Until then, the Wii U should be able to handle ports well. But once this time hits and the Wii U no longer has what it takes to handle the ports (or the ports would be so watered down that developers wouldn’t bother), it will be time for Nintendo to unveil their new hardware anyway. At that time, they should be able to produce hardware than is more powerful than Sony/MS' (but not drastically so) at a reasonable price.

Then, Sony releases PS5/XB4 a couple years later and the cycle repeats.

For this strategy to be more effective, the Wii U would have been released last year. Unfortunately for Nintendo, the 3DS was struggling and releasing the Wii U while trying to proper 3DS may have been too much for them to handle.

Is Monolith Soft confirmed to be working on a WiiU game? And if so, how much time do you reckon they've had to work on it?
Yes.

Well, they finished Xenoblade in 2010, assisted EAD 3 with Skyward Sword... so I suppose they've been working on it since 2010. They were looking for new employees as well.

Yes. Monolith Tokyo is working on a Wii U game (except for the Project X Zone team), Monolith Kyoto is doing a 3DS game. The Wii U game is somehow inspired by Elder Scrolls, and Monolith plans to show the world that a Japanese studio can do technology that rivals Western engines. Their lead engine guy said last year that they were doing prototypes on HD systems for years and that he's confident they'll do something that's up there. Should be interesting.

Is there a specific high-watermark the other two will be aiming for? Or is it more a reactionary approach to whatever Nintendo's final specs end up being?

This is some extremely wishful thinking. It won't take devs years to handle the power of the next gen consoles this time around and there's no way Nintendo will have more than a year uncontested in the market.

Maintain? No. The myth of having to upgrade every six months is just that: a myth. You don't need to maintain your PC financially any more than you need to maintain a console. A good PC user will clean out the dust in their case every once in awhile :p, and no download obviously harmful software. But neither of those things cost you (well, a can of compressed air might cost you a tiny amount of money).

The entry price for a new PC depends on how much you willing to spend and what you need. If you need a monitor, for example, that will add to the price. If you want a system that's pretty strong, the price on paper is higher than a console upfront, but you need to remember it will last you.

My PC cost me ~AU$1200 (I already had a monitor). I can run Crysis 2 DX11 at 1920x1080 maxed out at ~45fps, never dipping below 30fps. It will serve me into next generation as well.

BG said the PS4 target specs are already the uhhh target, and lherre said the 360 specs seem clear, so I assume they already know what they want to do.

I tried searching for this, but do you have a source on the Elder's Scrolls inspiration or anything on the Wii U game they are making?

That got me really fucking hyped.

Anyone know whats up with High Voltage Software? Haven't heard any news on them for a while.

Yep, they're still as terrible as ever.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
Yeah I know that expectations have been in check since day one from those of you in the know, and I know that a machine released a year after another is likely to be more powerful. It's just a bit sad I think that noone in these Wii U threads has been particularly excited about the tech specs of the machine. We're entering this new age, of an HD Nintendo machine. A MASSIVE jump from the Wii and still people are like "Don't get too excited". Not a particularly great feeling to start a new generation on to be honest.
I am (and I'm sure others gaffers are too). But I suspect those of us excited about the upcoming nintendo hw value elegant engineering, cost- and power efficiency way more than most people.

Oh, okay so roughly what I estimated it to be. lol okay so as long as you're computer savvy you'll be fine from getting malware and viruses and be able to maintain the machine. Good to know.

I feel like a gaming PC and a Wii U would compliment each other fairly well. I know people did that with the Wii this generation and did fairly fine, although missing out some console exclusives - but I guess I could always budge and get a PS4/next box 2-3 years after release too.

Woah woah woah!

Monolith is working on a Wii U game and wants to rival Elder Scrolls!?

EDIT: Now let's see how much time it takes for this to appear on Go-Nintendo.
