depends on what you are basing your judgement on really but:
acting - the wire wins, especially the child actors
dialogue - the wire by a mile
setting - game of thrones if you like medievel/fantasy

The shows are very very different, obviously. The Wire is quite realistic where GoT is a fantasy show.
They're both quite well done, but The Wire is considered by many to be one of the best TV shows of all time. Game of Thrones has its high and low points, and if you haven't read the books, will require a fair amount of attention if you want to understand everything.
That being said, The Wire is also sort of slowly paced in my opinion, and you need to invest a fair amount of time before it starts paying off. If you're only watching 1 to 2 episodes, you might get more out of GoT.

It seems like a lot of people fall off before hitting the 4th episode. The first 3 are all basically setup and exposition for what goes down in the 4th episode and beyond. All the shit the characters have to go through in order to get to that point can be pretty slow and "boring" to some people
I agree though, I was hooked from the beginning. But it's not until about the 4th episode where I really began to appreciate how special The Wire was.

I can't even comprehend how anybody could think this. Maybe A Song of Fire and Ice is a better book series than The Wire is a TV series but in no way shape or form is Game of Thrones a better TV show than The Wire.

I still havent watched the 5th season of the wire due to the advice from GAF, hence may be why I still have it as the best show I have ever seen by a mile.

I don't think this is true either. GoT has redefined what's possible in a TV show. The production values are movie like.
Don't mistake for me hating The Wire, I do not, quite enjoyed it in fact.

This is the correct answer.
The Wire is one of the best shows ever. Game of Thrones is a good show, but not a great show.
The books though (at least the first three) are some of the most entertaining books you'll ever read (the 4th and 5th books aren't terrible).
For this, there are better boobs in season 2 of The Wire than Game of Thrones has offered so far.
edit: for emphasis The Wire is one of the best shows ever. The insane love it gets online even annoys me a little, but it really is a great show
Yeah, nothing in S5 was too out there.
In my opinion, this was the wrong choice. Only simply because GoT is not finished, when you are done, you'll want more. While The Wire you will feel satisfied.
