The Witcher 2 has sold over 2.2 million copies

I am not suggesting that the way US developers run their studios should be a standard - not by a longshot.

I am stating that all things being equal, it is simply not fair to compare costs simply because there is a vast differential in the cost structure of the underlying national economies themselves.

You can have the best run, leanest operating North American/Western European studio and costs will still outstrip those of a studio in Central/Eastern Europe.

Point taken.

Some people disagree, and there are a few things 1 did better than 2, but I'd say the overall consensus is that the sequel is superior.

i've actually bought the first game twice, and have yet to finish it once :P i'm just so lazy as a PC gamer these days. Do i need to know the plot of the first game to start the second?

Gonna buy it again on PC as soon as my rig is complete. I love the game; felt like a soap opera with swords.

Not really but it pulls from the first a lot regarding one character iirc.

It deserves more, it's a great game. I bought it during launch and enjoyed it so very much.

Looked glorious on my rig and after having watched all those developer diaries before launch, I could tell that the effort CDProjekt put into the game paid off, they did a great job.

Hopefully we will get a sequel as good as Witcher 2.

I don't know how the success of one game somehow proves that DRM is ineffective or vice versa. We would only know that if they released the GOG/Steam + 360 split.

I doubt that would really tell us too much about DRM, either. Its just not really a measurable variable. What they do know is that it creates goodwill within their own community and that in itself is adding value to their future products.

Good sales but I wish it sold more. Game is my GoTY, possibly GoTG, I was caught off guard to how good it was even though I've seen people rave about it.

So the general consensus is that TW2 is better than the first one?? I played the first, and while I didn't think it was great, it was enjoyable enough for me to finish it. Might try this one then.

If your gripes were with the combat, then TW2 is substantially better. If your gripes were with the traveling, it's a bit better (though the roll distance talent speeds traveling up a lot so ymmv). If you didn't enjoy the writing, there's no hope for you.

Well that's true because many people who bought Steam versions may just think the DRM is a worthwhile tradeoff for stuff like achievements, etc.

Game was pretty good and the graphics blew me away when it was released. I guess 2 millions is very nice for them, they're not Valve or Blizzard. Can't wait to see what they have done with their CyberPunk game, hopefully the trailer will give a good idea.

IIRC TW2 is one of those games that sold primarily on good word of mouth. It'll be interesting to see how things will play out with TW3.

I hope for Witcher 3, they take a look back and follow the original Witcher's choice/consequence system a bit more closely rather than the sequel's. Having completely different acts was ok but there were so many impactful yet subtle moments in the original that made the narrative way more satisfying than the sequel's.

I actually thought you meant console and PC split as well. I guess the GoG/Steam split could give us some indication of that.

Yea, it still wouldn't be a clear indication really but I'm sure a small percentage of people buying from GOG bought there specifically because of the lack of DRM. I'm sure a lot of people just rented the 360 from Gamefly or bought used so that really isn't helpful either. I just disagreed with the point made regarding DRM free equating to good sales.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Global warming doesn't exist!

The sky is green!

The Earth is actually flat, balanced on the back of a gigantic tortoise!

Ghosts are real!

Humans are not animals!

These are all opinions. They are all wrong.

You are confusing opinion with fact.

Opinion: I like yellow.
Fact: Yellow is the best colour.

An opinion can never be wrong no matter how much you dislike it. An example would be "raping people is fine"; an opinion that surely all of us disagree with.

You are incorrect on all points; you posted facts and not opinions. It's also a bit insulting (and immature) that you wrote "haha" in all caps and even bolded it for whatever reason but in the end it only makes you look even more of a fool. You're extremely ignorant.

o·pin·ion [uh-pin-yuh n]
noun
1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.
3. the formal expression of a professional judgment: to ask for a second medical opinion.
4. Law. the formal statement by a judge or court of the reasoning and the principles of law used in reaching a decision of a case.
5. a judgment or estimate of a person or thing with respect to character, merit, etc.: to forfeit someone's good opinion.
opinion (əˈpɪnjən)

— n
1. judgment or belief not founded on certainty or proof
2. the prevailing or popular feeling or view: public opinion
3. evaluation, impression, or estimation of the value or worth of a person or thing
4. an evaluation or judgment given by an expert: a medical opinion
5. the advice given by a barrister or counsel on a case submitted to him or her for a view on the legal points involved
6. a matter of opinion a point open to question
7. be of the opinion that to believe that
By either of these definitions, every single line I quoted is an opinion.

To clarify, my problem with the line "Opinions can never be wrong" (and why I laughed so hard at it) is because it drives some of the greatest idiocy in the history of mankind with total bullshit like "vaccines cause autism" and "global warming is not man-made!", both of which are opinions that are VERY wrong and horribly harmful to the human species as a whole.

Opinions should never be allowed to pass simply because they are opinions. It is important to make a distinction between opinions that are based on erroneous fact and opinions that are merely taste. The former can most DEFINITELY be wrong. The latter, not so much.
Also,
Fact: Yellow is the best colour.
No, that is most definitely an opinion. Any value judgement cannot be assigned status as fact unless it is ground in measurable, physical reality. "Yellow is a color close to the middle of the electromagnetic light spectrum" is a statement of fact. So is "most modern-day engines are far superior to older models when it comes to attaining locomotive power with the same amount of fuel." There is actually a measurable result here - miles per gallon.

Colors, on the other hand, have only one measurable quality, and that is energy. And if we went by energy, the only colors that could be the "best" would be "red" (at the beginning of the visible spectrum) or "violet" (at the end of the visible spectrum).

I hope that clears stuff up.

Also, I realize we are going off-topic here, so let me just say that I am happy about this news and hope CD Projekt sees more success in the future. They make some good shit, man.

I love the game, all success is well deserved. I've done my part, I bought 6 copies. :P It's a very special game in my opinion and everyone should play it.

No but you are missing an awesome game.
Witcher 1 has aged extremely well, many of the environments can look like paintings.
The color scheme and art is unmatched and the story and characters are very entertaining.

Gameplay can feel weird at the start but once you get used to it it has a nice flow to it and it still shits all over Mass effects worthless gameplay.

A lot of people still prefer witcher 1 over witcher 2.

And yeah CDPR deserved every one of those witcher 2 sales.
Everyone on my steam list has this game and every one of them loves it.

I absolutely loved the game and wish it sold more. I've played through it three times already, and am even contemplating trying the 360 versions just because it has different lighting.
