The Witcher 3 next patch first details - 1.05 (PC), 1.04 (console)

they honestly should just release a patch that fixed the xp bug then work on the rest. Do they really not realize people are not playing the game because of it?! smh

As others have speculated its entirely possible that the XP bug may not be fixed and it could be one of the reasons the patch is held up.

The xp bug wasn't known when reviews were made, was it even present?

And it may not even be as widespread as we think it is. Anecdotal I know, but I and the three people I know personally playing don't have it (I've played the least at 40 hours). And we'e not going to hear from people in threads like these who are playing the game without the bug as often as people complaining about it.

So while it is an issue that needs addressing, and even if it were present at launch, it may simply not be widespread enough for the reviewers to encounter it.

I don't think it was impactful enough for reviewers to notice. Bloodworth on GT put 100+ hours into it and had it beat and didn't mention anything. It's not like you get a bug and every quests suddenly stops giving exp. It's just that a few certain quests might not, from what I can tell.

I did everything possible in the game and from what I noticed only a couple side quests, maybe one contract, and a couple *stages* of certain main quests didn't give me exp. It ate probably 2 levels worth tops. It could have hit more than that I suppose, but I over leveled the story missions a couple times to the point where they were Gray and gave no exp regardless. I ended up at level 35.5 and if I had gotten exp on everything I guess I'd be level 37-39 at most provided I made sure to never over level anything ever.

Edit: Actually I don't think there was enough high level non-story stuff to push me past 37 regardless and the last story stuff is level 31, iirc.

I really do not think it is such a big deal that it's worth not playing the game for. There's also some really easy exp farm spots (which I feel are totally unnecessary) if you're that paranoid about your level or cheats to "fix" your exp on PC.

I know, I know. Just venting

Ha, yeh, if the bug had hit me I'd probably be feeling like doing the same.

how would I know what level I should be at? is there a list anywhere that shows how much xp you get. I'm a level 11 on broken flowers and I've done a ton of side quests. Does that sound right?

I'm not sure, I've probably taken a different route through the game than you.

I just met up Triss and finished the quest with the rats. About 20 minutes past that point. I'm level 12, I've done every side quest, story quest, and contract relevant to my level.

B&BB.

As others have speculated its entirely possible that the XP bug may not be fixed and it could be one of the reasons the patch is held up.

If that's the case, they should say so instead of sending out language that makes it sound like the XP fix has been long finished, but they were holding it out for the patch "around the corner."

Obviously people will still be upset, but it's far more understandable instead of the situation they created for themselves with the messages they've been sending out so far.

If this PC patch lands exactly the same time as the consoles, the shitstorm will be quite vast and reaching. If not, I really really feel for the console players because it'll probably be another two weeks before they see any fixes.

Seems the bug decided to spare me. I did the main stuff, some side quests and found some sources of power. Got my exp and ability points just fine. Phew. Still hope the patch arrives as soon as possible

Edit: White Orchard

CDPR seems to have really poor communication skills. I don't know if it's a language barrier thing or they just don't have good internal PR practices.

Honestly the best thing for them at this point would be to set up another short interview with Eurogamer to explain what's going on with the patching situation.

Agreed. The way CDPR are handling this issue has been poor. If the XP bug hasn't been fixed yet due to complications, just say so and most would hopefully understand.

Okay, going through the quest log. The highest level Story Quests and Side Quests are level 30, so the highest you can get Exp from them is level 35. There's also 1 level 35 Contract and 1 level 33 Contract.

So, actually, on quests alone, you can't get higher than 36 (and those two contracts aren't even remotely close to enough to push you to 37). The times I missed exp due to being over-leveled on quests would have pushed me from 35.5 to 36 easily. So, yeah. I really do not think the bug is some major issue.

The XP bug should have been priority #1, I haven't touched the game in like 4 days now. And guess what? ESO is coming out next tuesday, better hope I don't get hooked to it CDPR, and don't come back.

I'm sure you would be totally fine if the patch came with a bug that corrupts your save files or something. That is probably why its taking longer.

The fuck? Why should I be glad that a bug inhibiting me from playing the game isn't fixed yet because of the speculative possibility of another equally crippling bug that may or may not be introduced?

I haven't been able to play the game in the little bit of time I generally have to play games these days. The patch was supposed to be out Monday. It's now Wednesday and we have no clear word on when it'll be out.

The last we heard was that CDPr was rolling the fix into a bigger patch. Which still strikes me as an incredibly stupid thing to do.

my ps4 copy is still sealed in its wrapping. if they don't get things running decent and the xp shit fixed in the next week ill be making a return.

But, they already have your money? You are the only one that loses in this scenario. Also, ESO is shit, don't fuck with that game.

It's too soon for you to be getting the bug anyway. It's coming, make no mistake.

People have reported experiencing it earlier, actually.

And some have said it happened once, some have said it happened in every quest, some said they complete the game and it didn't happen at all.

It's not guaranteed to occur.

At first I was pissed about having to wait until next week to play again (ps4 version) now that I know it might take until the 15th or 16th of this month for a patch? livid. absolutely livid.

Should have turned off updates on PS4. Smart enough to know sometimes patches like this can end up breaking more than they fix. and boy oh fucking boy did 1.03 ever fuck us over. Insane amounts of pop-in, much lower res shadows in cut-scenes, way way way more accounts of the XP bug, plus a bunch of other shit. I would have been playing like crazy if it was 1.02.

Oh well. Time to clear out my backlog I guess. that and pray that in another fucking 15 days whenever they finally patch this that it doesn't bring another laundry list of bugs and visual downgrades...

You spent your money on the game already, why would they care if you come back. Money is in da bank already! ;)

I would be insanely surprised if someone has had it happen to them on literally every quest or even enough to meaningfully impact leveling balance.

The overreactions to this are nuts.

Well, I guess this game goes on the backlog till after Batman. Good job CDPR. I wish I had under 2 hours played to take advantage of that Steam refund.

What? Why would CDPR possibly care whether you're playing the game or not? They already have your money.

This guy, right here.

I made a save starting from the Pyres of Novigrad quest line and completed it all the way to Whoreson Jr's final quest line.

Did a bunch of the quests that popped up in between.

No experience for any of them.

Oh, that's a lie. I got 25 experience for completing a side-quest.

Your assumptions are nuts.

I got zero XP from two main story quests in a row; I'm not going to go keep playing for hours and hours just on the hopes that I might eventually get some XP. In my experience, 90% of the XP in the game comes from main quests, anyway. I've gone hours and hours without gaining a single level from sidequests, knowing that when I want some levels I can just play the main quests. You quite literally get 10-20 times more XP from a story quest.

I'm not interested in scraping by. I want to do all the quests and get all the XP so I can play around with new skill points and wear my sweet new armour and craft my awesome swords and shit, because this is an RPG.

What? Why would CDPR possibly care whether you're playing the game or not? They already have your money.

They want to sell the expansion to people. It is in their best interest to make people happy.

Luckily I haven't been hit by the XP bug, but I've been doing only side quests. Many of them are super interesting.

It's just fucking annoying because we have no idea how big of an impact it is having or how long it's been hitting us. I posted in the OT, I seem to have gotten my missing XP back suddenly. Don't know if it's all of it or what. But, I did a bunch of main story stuff yesterday getting zero XP. I then did a random side mission and when I got my XP from it I jumped up from level 22 to 26. My only explanation is that it was missing XP suddenly flooding in.

I bet it's the former. It's clear to me they are having trouble with the fix.

My bet as well.

A 4-day "long weekend" starts in Poland tomorrow (no idea how many other Catholic countries as well), half the country will be on holidays, so if they're coming to work every day till the next week, that means their asses are on fire and they know it IMHO.

This.

Ugh, are we now really gonna have to wait 2 weeks for the patch for ps4? If so, that really really sucks. Maybe i should go back to Dragon age and slog through it, but after playing W3 that's gonna be super hard given the gulf in quality between those two titles.

Guess i can start clearing some ?'s though.

I haven't really been paying attention much to the XP so I'm not sure if I am getting it or not. I have off today and really want to play it but I think I'm going to hold out a bit.

Been seeing posts like this and it really makes me want to take the chance it will fix itself eventually. But man, i'm playing on death march and i don't want to hit a brick-wall due to missing out on the main quest exp.

I haven't been playing much at all as that XP glitch is infuriating, so I rather wait for it to be patched. Not all is lost though, as I''ve been reading the books instead. Highly recommend checking them out for those who haven't already and are waiting for the XP glitch to be fixed.

not really, it's more like X + 1 week, where X is when when CDPR gets their act together

I guess I'll play it for the first time in July, then!

It's just unfortunate for those that have a lot of progress, especially with the XP bug. To be that deep into the game and have it happen, or even at an early point kind of blocking you from continuing on, that hurts.

I wasn't expecting it since they said when they do fix it it won't be retroactive, but the game seems to have done that itself. Just a bizarre and annoying situation. If they could have really pushed a hotfix on Monday for PC, they fucking should have. Not being able to play out of fear is some bullshit.

I was hoping to get this game finished before Batman but now I'm not sure if the patch will even be released before Batman.

I've pretty much stopped playing the game now because I've got nothing else to do apart from the story quests which I'm not getting XP for and a handful of side quests, contracts and treasure hunts that are way too high of a level for me.

In a way The Witcher 3 is more broken than AC Unity, at least that game was still playable.

Has anyone just used any of the mods to add their XP back in manually. I would do this if it comes to it.. .problem is I don't want to over level. I just want to be exactly where i should be.

A couple of people here are doing so and even I did for a bit, but looking up videos or information to find exact experience values is tiring and very annoying.

This is getting absolutely ridiculous. I've stopped doing any non grey quests but I really want to move on in the game. It's been far too long to let an issue like this go unfixed.

Sorry if already answered, I'm really not up-to-date lately. Is the XP Bug detailed somewhere and is it possible to avoid it?

Don't worry, it's just around the corner! =P

It triggers randomly, but it appears to be mostly affecting main quests.

I have had it happen on side quests as well.

It is sad to have to put down the game between now and the patch (it is so good, I jsut do not want to stop). But... alas, not much we can do.

It's too soon for you to be getting the bug anyway. It's coming, make no mistake.

Got this bug before I met with triss. Finishing Baron arc got zero xp. Any main story quest gives me zero xp at this point. All sidequest and contracts working fine.

How hard is it to do? do you need the mod on at all times for the XP value to stay or is it just a one time deal type of thing? if anything I'll just level myself up to keep up with the current quests around me.

Strange how hard is fixing this bug. I mean, originally wasn't here, right? So latest patch should caused this, it should be easy detect what went bad and reverting it with a hotfix.

It was present since launch just not widely noticed until about patch 1.3.

Not hard to do at all, just find the mod that allows you to access the debug console. Once you have it, you just need to enter a command that grants you XP by a set value.

Weren't the patching fees for consoles dropped?

Why does CDPR refuse to release a small hotfix just for this? I am unable to play the game since last week because of this stupid bug and from the looks of it a fix won't be out for consoles until next week at the earliest.

As much as I like them as a company they really handled this poorly

So the game won't be fixed until next week? Sod off. I guess I'll just take the XP hit. I've stopped playing on Sunday after I got hit by the bug, and I'm one of those people that kind of loses interest as time goes on. If I wait too long, it will probably just hang out in my backlog.
