The Witcher 3 next patch first details - 1.05 (PC), 1.04 (console)

i mean, shit happens.

it's a rock and a hard place.

they can say they're working on it, but users want a timetable for when it'll be coming.

but at the same time the size and scope of the problem may be developing the more they look into it.

Keep us in the know, we want to know what's the problem and why it's taking so long.

I experienced it myself and so have others on the official topic and on various other forums and website mediums.

I'm not making a point, so I'm not going to search for every single instance posted or made public.

Just curious if there was a well known link. I didn't see a single person make the claim pre 1.03, and I've been active in a old amount of threads here and elsewhere.

Would like to see some evidence.

Man those official forums are super rough and illustrate why so many devs make absolutely no comment on patch release timelines.

Give a date, get hate. Don't give a date, get hate. It's a no win game is it any wonder most devs simply refuse to play.

I can only assume it's because folks don't understand that in software 'we have a fix' actually means 'we think we have a fix but won't know until we've done hundreds of man hours of regression testing'. They're not debugging 'hello world' here.

As for me I'm getting nothing from side quests right now but still am from bounties and primary quests. I'm still far out levelling the story so while I would like that XP it's a long ways off being a deal breaker(lvl 24 vs lvl 22 story quests).

Can you go to Skellige without affecting any open quests? I've become a travelling gwent hustler while I wait for the xp bug patch but I think I've exhausted everybody in Velen/ Novigrad, but I don't want to go yet if it will result in some quest failures.
Unlike the trip to Velen, heading to Skellige didn't auto fail any quests for me when I went at level 14 or so.

Edit: Sorry double post, damn mobile phone

Well, I experienced it myself and do recall reading about it which caused me to drop the game before it became a wide-known issue.

I'm not going to search for evidence because I have nothing to gain by doing so. Don't believe me? That's fine. I will not lose any sleep over it.

As for the situation at hand, here's some information I don't believe was posted before:

http://forums.cdprojektred.com/thre...-patch-today?p=1741948&viewfull=1#post1741948

The XP fix has been integrated into the patch. It would take a lot of work for us to make it a standalone hotfix, thus affecting the release date of 1.05 again. There are really a lot of issues that this update will fix - we want to make the game right for everyone.

Nothing personal, I like to be certain is all.

I wouldn't have a reason to believe otherwise considering the nature of the situation. There is nothing to be gained by being suspicious of a person's claims or others when regarding an issue that is present and may very well have been long before.

Realize it went unnoticed for quite awhile as people didn't know what to expect when first playing. It wouldn't be odd to see no experience given in a quest if you didn't have reason to believe otherwise.

I know what I experienced and that's enough for me. I've seen other reports and that's enough for me. It isn't for you? That's fine, but search for your own evidence.

Is the new patch up yet on PC?

Nope.

Absolutely I guess my point was more that I was disappointed by the shrill tone of a lot of the comments over there around the patch release date. The bug is crappy and is the kind of thing you would hope and expect to be caught before shipping.

For me it's not too bad right now and as a PC player if I find it is a problem later I can just console my way to sorting it myself. I can only imagine the annoyance if you're on console and are being aked to risk losing dozens of hours of progress if ploughing on screws you over for the end game.

:l

How the hell they didn't recognize such a bug during QA?
I mean, it's not exactly something small, and pretty much all users that wondered around a bit not following the plot triggered it. In all platforms too :\

For most people it seems to mainly affect the set of missions that you do in Novigrad. A lot of other activities and even main quest missions still give XP. Outside of a few edge cases my completely unscientific guess is that the XP bug may cause a loss of 2-3 levels of experience for the entire game. So maybe people would be Level 38 at end game instead of 35. Given that even on Death March the game just gets easier as you go I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that most people who finished the game experienced the bug but never knew they had it.

I've had the bug since about Level 13 or 14 and yet I'm now at Level 21 having only done a single plot mission in Skellige.

The fact that the bug has been present since launch yet wasn't wildly known until a week later should tell you that this bug isn't that common, at least not so common that they would catch it before launch.

yea console players are fucked
but us PC players can just give ourselves a level or 2 if we have too

At this point i'm just going to go back to playing the game and hope the XP bug doesn't make that much of a difference and in the long run don't get that quest bug that prevents me from continuing with the story.

Sounds like their dynamic exp based on your level code is fucked and the only short term solution is to just turn it off. Which would fuck with difficulty balance.

Or they can fix it which takes time.
Or disable it and rebalance how much exp every single quest gives you. Which probably takes even longer

/massive speculation

i wonder if you people complaining were here for that horror that was the PS3 version of Skyrim
this game is perfect compared to that horrible piece of shit

It's not enough, no, and I was only asking.

It's getting really annoying.
It's clear that CDPR wasn't ready for an AAA multiplatform release.

It's clear you haven't been around for many AAA releases if you think this game's state is really that bad...

It's getting really annoying.
It's clear that CDPR wasn't ready for an AAA multiplatform release.

They have the passion and skill to embarrass other major devs, but they clearly still have some things to learn about quality control and professionalism.

As much as I love the game, shipping an RPG with a faulty XP system is really not good. Super not good. I mean, it's hard to believe they actually did that.

There are three quests that I can turn in already that don't give me any, and I know it happened a few times before I cared enough not to revert to an earlier save. At the rate it's hitting me, I don't trust just playing on.

The lack of communication is what makes this so terrible, if its not coming out this week, just be open about it.

Or that developing an Open World RPG is extremely hard. The fact that this is their first attempt was really impressive, especially when compared with Bethesda's work in the same genre. I'm not excusing CDPR for having a lot of bugs in the Witcher 3, just pointing out that it could have been a lot worse.

The lack of communication is what makes this so terrible, if its not coming out this week, just be open about it.

They /are/ communicating. They've said the hotfixes wasn't possible, too complex an issue, and they're working hard to get it or ASAP and will work through the weekend if need be

You want minute to minute updates?

Really? Because so far they seem to be kicking bethsoft butt in every sense of the word and bethsoft had more experience with "open" world games than CDPR and are significant better and more equipped.

It is OK to be disappointed that the Witcher 3 has problems and the problems are not being solved as quickly as YOU hoped, but don't try to paint CDPR as worse than any other open world studio because they have exceeded most open world studios not only in scale, graphics but number of bugs.

DA:I had some really heinous bugs on release too and patches took quite a while to get out. Plus I believe they held the PC patches to be released simultaneously with console patches.

I'm about to start playing this game for the first time tonight.

At what level should I start worrying about the XP bug?

The last thing I want to do is stunt my character's leveling progress with XP-less questing.

Don't take this the wrong way, it is a bug and it should be fixed ASAP, but, you shouldn't worry at all. I'm level 13 and have noticed that some main quests don't give me any xp, but I'm still overleveled.

The game has so many side quests, and more importantly, they are fun to complete, that you really won't be missing much on the main quests xp. YMMV, of course, if you don't like taking the side quests.

They are working on it, what the fuck is wrong with you babies? Your bitching will never ever help it go faster.

Nothings wrong with me. I'll bitch as much as I want about a game that I paid for and I don't intend to give CDPr a free pass either because their game ended up being less shitty then other shit. Wow, what a high fucking bar.

Tantrums are not attractive or productive. No need for it.

The only issues I've had are hitching during rain storms in Novigrad. Otherwise I haven't run into any game-breaking bugs...and switching to Windows 10 fixed my Nvidia display driver crashes. This game is making a strong case for GOAT status in my book.

Tantrums are not attractive.

Great. Luckily, I'm not trying to impress anyone.

I have little time to play games these days and I can't really play the game I bought because it's been riddled with bugs and technical issues since day one. I got about a day and a half of total playtime where the game wasn't getting ruined by one thing or the other.

I'm already overleveled (level 22 on the first Skellige main quest) but the bug has hit me all of a sudden and has killed a lot of my desire to play the game despite it being incredible. I don't want to risk not getting any XP ever again since the results are so random for players.

This is the only major issue I've had with the game and it is a BIG one.

It's not riddled with bugs though. Not for many people. Maybe those riddled with bugs are in the minority, there's no way to tell for sure.

Point being vitriol is pointless, calm down. All it's going to do is wind you up and make you feel shitty.

Honestly, I can see it being one of those things that was easily overlooked. The reason is that the game is already far too generous with levels. What you see in the early bits where it feels like you are struggling to level and always struggling to keep up with the main quest, is not really representative of how it pans out. Even with the bug people are finishing the game well overleveled for the main content. I didnt get a single exp throughout the Novigrad quest line, I finished with the city at level 18, nearly 19, while the last quest in that chain is like level 13 or 14. If even one of those quests had given me exp, then the rest of the chain would probably have been "grey" anyway.

From my understanding, the XP fix will be included in the upcoming patch as a hotfix required an inconvenient amount of extra work. There's no ETA at this point, though Marcin pointed out that they'll be working over the weekend if they have to (and most likely will). If they manage to finish the patch early next week, then we have additional time on our hands we have to wait as the certification process could take many days, for us playing on console.

Case in point: it's probably not coming out for a while.

I'm not talking about others. I'm talking about myself. I've had inventory crashes, crashes to desktop, a whole variety of other crashes, and various bugs including this one.

This bug was supposed to be fixed Monday. Now we have no date. Is it pointless vitriol? Of course it is, CDPr doesn't give a shit what I think. I don't particularly care if it's pointless though.

I'm just calling it like it is.

I'd take a magnet to my hard drive, personally. Just to be sure they get the message that you'll have none of it!

An do haven't had a single bug, crashes when upgrading to Nvidia's new drivers but rolling back to the GTAV set has fixed that.

So yeh, the game is bug free if I "call it as I see it".

That's good to hear. I'm glad you are able to enjoy this fantastic title without any issues.

Yeah, it really is something that really needs to be solved. The main quests are obviously the main sources of xp, so I really see how not getting anyting from them can really be a turn off for anyone, but, at least in my case, it hasn't affected my game in any objective way.

I really am liking some situations I'm going through because of it in fact. Like there are times I'm walking around the map and find some lvl 18 or 19 monsters. Fighting these guys feels like fighting some monsters in Bloodborne lol. Gotta dodge like crazy and not get hit once, cuz if you are, game over :D.

Doesn't seem to hit everyone the same though. Some people have talked about suddenly gaining six lost levels. I don't really want to play the game and end up six levels lower than I could have been.

So where are they posting updates on the release timeline? See a lot of people talking about another delay into next week now, is that the PC version?

I'm already overleveled (level 22 on the first Skellige main quest) but the bug has hit me all of a sudden and has killed a lot of my desire to play the game despite it being incredible. I don't want to risk not getting any XP ever again since the results are so random for players.

This is the only major issue I've had with the game and it is a BIG one.

Wow my game is fucked hard and apparently has been for 10's of hours. I've done probably 80% of the POI's, Hunts, and side quest in the Velen/Novigrad land mass and am level 14 on the first Skellige quest.

People bitching that others are mad a product they paid for isn't functioning correctly is pretty stupid.

No one is "throwing a tantrum." The product is broken, we were told it would be fixed on Monday, that didn't happen. We really have no clue when it will happen. No shit people are pissed. We have a right to be. I'm not getting my pitchfork out or anything, I'm still loving the game. But, I'll complain about the problem all I want until it's fixed.

The fuck are you on about?

That's good to hear. I'm glad you are able to enjoy this fantastic title without any issues.
I think you need to cool down. I understand you are upset but relax. Noting you can do about it. It's not really not game "breaking". Play the game you will most likely end up over level anyways.

They are working on it, what the fuck is wrong with you babies? Your bitching will never ever help it go faster.

They better be working on it. They are not doing me any favour, it's their job. If they have to fix it after delivering the product to me, that means they didn't do their jobs as well as they should.

I understand bitching won't help, but I won't criticize people who want to complain. In fact, I'm glad there are people bitching because if it wasn't for that maybe they wouldn't even give a damn.

It's wrong to release the game like this. They should test their games properly. It's a big issue and it's baffling that something like that passed their testing. It's not like this is an obscure bug that only affects a certain people on very specific circunstances.

Also, it doesn't help that you are not being completely upfront about the problem.

I think you need to cool down. I understand you are upset but relax. Noting you can do about it. It's not really not game "breaking". Play the game you will most likely end up over level anyways.

I don't accept this reasoning. The trust in the product is shaken. I cannot be sure that everything is going to be ok and the balance won't be compromised.

People are throwing a tantrum when they start using expletives and throwing insults and hyperbole around.

Complaints are fine, you can complain and not be a dick about it.
