The Witcher 3 next patch first details - 1.05 (PC), 1.04 (console)

Weren't the patching fees for consoles dropped?

Why does CDPR refuse to release a small hotfix just for this? I am unable to play the game since last week because of this stupid bug and from the looks of it a fix won't be out for consoles until next week at the earliest.

As much as I like them as a company they really handled this poorly

Fees are gone yes. But patches still have to go through an approval process.

Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed they weren't able to get the XP bug out on Monday. Really the only thing preventing me from playing the game at the moment. Makes me think they ran into some problems.

Fuck it then. Assuming you do everything in Novigrad and Velen (within reason) before moving to Skellige, what level should you be?

I'm guessing around 20?

The first several Skellige main quests are actually sub-15. Which is odd because the quest to get to Skellige is 16 (and the monsters you fight are around that level).

However, the random monsters you find in the wild can be 20+ so it's dangerous getting to your objectives.

I was 17 or 18 before going to Skellig and I didn't get XP for a lot of the Novigrad main quests. I'm level 21 now despite only doing a single main quest in Skellig. XP is dropping like rain.

So how does the exp bug work. Does it say '0 exp' or does it just not say anything.

I completed a quest the other night
fem-dandilion quest i think
When it was all over and i met the woman to turn it in i got nothing. I might have got xp earlier when talking to
Dijkatra
but i cant remember.

I saved before handing in and bith times nothing about exp even came up. Is that how the bug works?

Oh. I'd not heard about that par. Well then that does sound like a bug. My mistake. o_O

It also decides to just add 8 hours to your playtime if you're playing through midnight. I've seen it happen several times. At 23:59 my playtime will be at 20 hours, then a minute later at 00:00 it will be at 28 hours, like clockwork (pun intended).

Knowing about this issue I always save right before midnight and reload right after, which allows me to avoid it. And of course I don't suspend the game (at least not without, again, reloading to a pre-suspend save after resuming, but that negates most of the time saved by suspending in the first place). So I've managed to keep my playtime more or less accurate. But if you've just been playing like a normal person you're screwed.

It'll show nothing, so you very likely encountered the glitch.

It's the nature of the glitch that caused it to go unnoticed for so long as people playing for the first time didn't know which quests actually gave out XP and which didn't if any.

Ahhh poop. I should prob load to just before handing it in and do some side stuff then

So it might not drop next week!?

Pam param my ass.

It'll be amazing in a very bad way if the PC patch doesn't release next week. As for the console platforms, it's fairly safe to say nothing will be pushed through for them until the week after next due to certification.

Rushed home Monday thinking patch would be out as they promised, nothing, rushed home yesterday with slight less hope because they said Tuesday/Wednesday, nothing again. Rush home today because it's Wednesday, patch should be out by now! ..fucking nothing again.

Good job CDPR, well played.

I'm about to start playing this game for the first time tonight.

At what level should I start worrying about the XP bug?

The last thing I want to do is stunt my character's leveling progress with XP-less questing.

Level 13 here.

PC.

35-40 hours in I think.

No bug so far.

I thought it was coming this week on consoles. Im gonna end up loosing interest in this game if they make me wait 2 weeks to play. Does the xp glitch hit everyone or is it random? I just went to skellige and got the xp from the main quest but im paranoid its gonna stop giving me xp at some point. this is another game i regret buying digital on ps4 now im stuck with a broken game.

I know a lot of people are talking about this XP bug, but honestly I don't know if it's affected me or not.. my character seems to be leveling as one would expect. I've got about 18 hours in the game and am level 11.

So don't expect the patch before next week...

Marcin just said

On the CDPR board

XP bug should be a priority and fix everything else later. Game on hold currently. Waiting for the PC patch then a week after that for console patch and then the large download...

The plan was to have it release sometime this week for consoles, but it got pushed up to next week with the first PC patch delay. Considering now that the PC patch is all but confirmed for next week, it's safe to assume the consoles won't see anything until the week after.

The glitch triggers randomly, but you'll know you have it when a quest doesn't reward you with anything.

I mean... There are some of us who literally cannot get through infinite loading screens. :(

What makes you say the PC patch isn't coming this week? Guessing I missed an update.

I talked about this in the main Witcher 3 OT, but for what its worth, the bug did fix itself in my game, and I was one of the people who wasn't getting experience from anything at all. I ended up going back to an old save before the bug started and trying to do quests in a different order. My theory is only anecdotal, but from all the fooling around I did with different saves I think what might cause it is unfinished secondary quests in your queue that you have out leveled, specifically being assigned ones in the course of the main quest you won't get experience for due to being over the level requirement. I cleared out all my grey quests, then pushed through the main quest and after a couple of quests, I started getting experience again. This only fixed itself on one save - it didn't fix itself on my original save where the game stopped giving experience completely. I wish I had a better understanding of what made it work again, but try to clear out any grey quests and complete the story quests sooner rather than later, so you aren't completely overleveled.

CDPR guy is not even sure if they'll release it in the weekend or not.

"if needed" = he has no idea.

this is a clusterfuck in the making right here.

it seems to me with all the delays that they just don't know how to fix the xp bug

Quite the vitrol on the official forums. People can be such douchebags. I know it's annoying but at the end of the day, it's a game- not life or death.

This is the issue I have. Fair enough express critique of the developers if you think they've done a poor job, but there's no need to do it with such open hostility and malice.

I might put this up for a few patches and come back to it later. I've got 3 quests right now that are bugged and I can't finish for one reason or another. It's disappointing, but at this point I'm tempted to wait until both expansions are out by next year and start over.

Why does the xp bug matter so much? I finished the game at lvl 35 and I got nothing left to do. Im overleveled for all the quests and beat the highest lvl enemy in the game

Still can't talk to Djikstra to continue the Count Rueven's Treasure quest- noted specifically on the patch. So I went to Skellige and it's been pretty wonderful!

That's one of the quests I'm stuck on, it's a bit annoying.

The other ones being (Character Spoilers)
the quest where you help Roche and Ves, Roche doesn't appear under the tree.

And a quest on Skellige has a weird bug that's blocking progression in it.

Oy...the negativity is a drag. They've made one of the best games ever with a few bugs. Give them some time. They acknowledge the problem rather than blaming the user (DA:I banter...), so to me, they've acted only with the highest level of professionalism.

"Maybe" "hopefully" "next week" "next ---" "around the corner" highest level of professionalism?

I just wish the XP bug could be hotfixed, rather than waiting for an entire .XX patch.

I was getting really into my second playthrough, and stopped, as I'm feeling uncomfortable progressing any further. Just hope my desire to play doesn't die down. With all the big new reveals, I'm already inundated with a bunch of backlog games to prepare for their sequels.

i mean, shit happens.

it's a rock and a hard place.

they can say they're working on it, but users want a timetable for when it'll be coming.

but at the same time the size and scope of the problem may be developing the more they look into it.

I've read this. Can you link to evidence?

I experienced it myself and so have others on the official topic and on various other forums and website mediums.

I'm not making a point, so I'm not going to search for every single instance posted or made public.

Can you go to Skellige without affecting any open quests? I've become a travelling gwent hustler while I wait for the xp bug patch but I think I've exhausted everybody in Velen/ Novigrad, but I don't want to go yet if it will result in some quest failures.
