The Witcher 3 next patch first details - 1.05 (PC), 1.04 (console)

Yeah no need to be defensive about people complaining. We all love the game. This sort of stuff especially the xp glitch that many are complaining about is a pretty serious and valid concern. I love CDP but they somewhat shat the bed here by pushing out a bug infested and broken game in some regards. They deserve the full brunt of backlash for doing this.

I think you need to cool down. I understand you are upset but relax. Noting you can do about it. It's not really not game "breaking". Play the game you will most likely end up over level anyways.

I am relaxed. I'm on a gaming forum while studying. This thread or issue doesn't upset me at all compared to not being able to play the game I paid for.

And no, I won't be overlevelled. Aside from certain main quests that are affected by the bug, I only have high level side-quests left and so on.

And the combat in this game isn't good enough for me to try and fight level 22+ Fiends and so on and level 14.

Edit: I see no problem with using expletives. It's a game I paid for. I expect to be able to play it without major issues most of the time. I should complain without using expletives? Fuck that noise.

If there's a problem, I'm sure the mods will deal with it.

But, I use explatives even when I'm not complaining.

Context and tone, baby.

Not defending anyone, just a bit tired of all these emotional ego driven reactions.

Laugh about it people! If you constantly let yourself get worked up with all this negative shit you're only causing damage to yourself.

Couldn't agree more, I don't mind that there are small issues that are being fixed, in fact with a game of this size I sort of expected that to be the case before launch. But having an issue this big without it being fixed yet is pretty pathetic on so many levels, especially given that I have to halt myself from playing the game altogether until it's fixed. Unreal how this wasn't found before the game was released.

Main Novigrad quest "Broken Flower" completed yesterday and gave me no XP... guess I'll focus on exploration and secondary quests until the patch is out. =/

It's not unreal, it's a reasonable part of developing such a huge game with the team they have.

It's so easy to tell them how simple a fix it is, how easy it was to find pre launch, but do you really know how complex the issue was or how well it was hidden?

Maybe it was only apparent on launch because it's actually rare and we're only seeing I now because so many people are playing it?

I don't accept this reasoning. The trust in the product is shaken. I cannot be sure that everything is going to be ok and the balance won't be compromised.
CDPR know what the issues is, I dont see a point in repeating saying the same things over and over when they clearly understand as of now. No one knows what the future patches will do because that's in the future. Frankly I have faith because they are releasing patches fast, trying to communicate to the game community as well. It is their job but shit happens, deal with it. Complaining more will result in noting. Besides plenty of people have beaten the game already with no issues that I know about.

Of course each their own and I respect your views. This is just my 2 cents.

People keep saying it's unreal how this bug wasn't found, but what can they do if they didn't? Did any reviewers run into it? I played like a fiend for over 100 hours and never had it happen. I'm with you, it needs to be fixed, but acting like they knew about the bug or something...just what?

Well said.

Aren't most people bitching because they promised the fix on monday, then wednesday "at latest" and now it's next week, but we really don't know for sure because they are not completely upfront about it?

Man, if you can't keep your word, don't create expectations. People will be frustrated. It's just how it is.

Yes, shit happens and people will bitch about it. They should deal with it.

Game development is not assured. Problems spring up at the last moment all the time.

You really aren't aware of this?

Doesn't seem so crazy since most of us didn't notice until we were told. That's the worst thing about it. Who knows how long it's been fucking you.

To play Devil's Advocate for a second, if a lot of people were struck with this bug at launch, but never knew about it until they were told a week later, yet they still had enough XP to be over leveled in the end, doesn't that lend some credence that the XP bug isn't as big of a deal like some are making it out to be.

Really? Because so far they seem to be kicking bethsoft butt in every sense of the word and bethsoft had more experience with "open" world games than CDPR and are significant better and more equipped.

It is OK to be disappointed that the Witcher 3 has problems and the problems are not being solved as quickly as YOU hoped, but don't try to paint CDPR as worse than any other open world studio because they have exceeded most open world studios not only in scale, graphics but number of bugs.
That's my point, they're not just an 'open world studio'. Comparing their work to Bethsoft is just not fair, 99% of devs ship better quality than those guys.
Considering their pedigree, I expected a superb quality product, that's all. Next time they will be better, I'm sure.

There are a bunch of small bugs aside from the xp bug that are pretty annoying as well. Getting stuck in a falling animation unable to do anything in small areas, especially around fallen debris or wooden beams, etc.

The game saving at a checkpoint during a jump that kills you (because fall damage is actually ridiculous in this game) and loading makes it so that you die repeatedly when landing. Crashing randomly while doing quests. Looting from certain crates or whatever can be a major pain in certain areas.

This is a great game, but these bugs along with Geralt's not very responsive controls when moving around (on horse, land, or water) just ruin what is otherwise an incredible experience.

Yep, this is just a continuation of the cycle for them. They put their foot in their mouth by over promising and then slowly walk it back without being up front. First it was the graphics, then some of the day one issues and now this.

It's honestly a really disgusting display they continue to put on. Just don't lie! Is it that fucking hard!

Are you aware that if your reasoning is valid, then anything goes? I mean, would you still think like that if your save data was deleted after dozens of hours? It would be a more severe bug, but according to your logic developers are blameless because "problems spring up at the last moment all the time".

and get that framerate up to 60 fps....rotten fuckers

Just ignore him. He is like an unpaid PR person for CDPR at this point. He admittedly doesn't have any of the major bugs but he has spent the last couple days in here trying to downplay people's frustration and coming up with all manner of excuses to shift blame away from CDPR.

While I'm sure it's not a huge deal, it's still annoying. I had been sitting on a piece of armor that required me to be level 27. I had had it for a good while. When I got some/all (who knows?) of my XP back for whatever reason, I jumped from 22 to 26 (halfway to 27). So there are things like being blocked off from equipment, missing those ability points, and staying away from certain side quests because you're afraid you're under-leveled. I'm also on whatever the third difficulty is (one away from the hardest). So, I haven't really felt over-leveled personally.

The overleveling, I don't think, is an issue for the main story.

For me, it's all about the side-content.

Quests at level 20 while I'm 14 are probably doable. But anything higher is probably just a case of getting one-shot without Quen.

And being stuck at 14 because main quests won't give me exp...

Can't play the game aside from Gwent.

Said this to you earlier since you said you still had story quests that were your level

Story quests give multiple levels. I played on Death March and rarely got XP for doing secondary quests and contracts. The real XP begins in story quests. It's not unheard of to gain 3-5+ levels in a story quest.

Also, there's monsters that are lvl 30+ in Velen, of course you shouldn't be fighting a lvl 28 monster at 14.

You dreaming up a random hypothetical does nothing to change the fact that game development is complex and problems do occur at the last minute often.

I understand you're frustrated, but you're being unrealistic here.

There is no need to be that petty.

Most of us have been waiting patiently for patches. Yes alot of people have finished the game, but alot of us haven't had the pleasure of getting a working product. I myself will now being waiting for three weeks to just play the game.

People have a right to upset over a product they bought that doesn't work. It's like buying a car and being told later your steering wheel will come 2 weeks later.

Said this to you earlier since you said you still had story quests that were your level

The story quests are giving me no experience. I've actually gone back several hours of playtime when I did the entire chain of quests in Novigrad and not a single quest gave me experience.

So, right now, I basically have a whole bunch of quests ready to turn in and I'm waiting on the patch to turn them in, hoping I get exp when that happens.

Problem is that people are losing XP here and there which adds up in the end, and can be detrimental as you progress. It slowly kills the flow of the game and sends butterfly effects that could severely hamper your progress as you play along. Not everyone is affected to the same degree (I think even some aren't even affected at all?) but for those of us who are, it's annoying.

I'm not even mad that it'll take a while for the patch to come out as I'm enjoying the books right now as I wait, but I rather wish they stay quiet instead of giving promises that they can't keep. It's better to under promise and over deliver than the other way around.

I hope there's options for HUD and text size on consoles. I'm actually fine with it as it is, any bigger would be far too intrusive.

Laugh about it people! If you constantly let yourself get worked up with all this negative shit you're only causing damage to yourself.

I'm sorry, but I don't find it funny running into inventory crashes, quests that are bugged and now getting no quest XP, in a game I paid a lot of money for.

You'd expect the people testing the game to pay a bit more attention, no?

As reasoned previously, perhaps it's a rare bug and only now that there are so any playing it's being apparent?

That's a possibility.

I'm sorry, but I don't find it funny running into inventory crashes, quests that are bugged and now getting no quest XP, in a game I paid a lot of money for.

Feel free to make an emotional fuss then.

This game really isn't about levels but knowing the weakness of the monsters you're attacking. I can beat beasts levels higher than me if I follow the guide and study their movement.

There is no need to be that petty.

Because it's hypothetical it can't ilustrate a point to show that your reasoning is silly at best?

Yes, problems occur at the last minute (this is not something exclusive to videogame development). Yes, CDPR is still to blame. Yes, the consumer has every right to complain. Especially when the problems are numerous and you are not being completely honest about it.

This is a thread about the patch anyway. Seems to me it's completely appropriate to share the frustration of how late a patch is on a topic about the patch. Why are you so bothered about this? This isn't the OT and the complaining isn't getting in the way of any relevant discussion.

The controls sure are my main issue with the game :/ (well, aside from the fact that I'm stuck waiting for the patch to actually play it again). Geralt is supposed to be this super skilled, agile swordmaster, but he controls like a fucking tank.

I love their games, but CDPR should really hire someone who can do controls right.

Pretty sure they are dealing with it. End of the day, CDPR will release the patch when they do, complaining will not speed things up. For myself I am also waiting for the patch but I understand things happen. Take game dev with a pinch of salt especially in today's market. Noting is black and white. But CDPR are attempting their best.

A car that many people can still drive without a steering wheel ;) anyways are you a console user or PC user? Well I cant comment about the consoles since I am a PC user. The game runs well on my PC. However I would like to believe its more of a hardware issues for consoles. Its subjective matter since some console users have finish the game already as well. Some other users have not.

I kinda wish I never read about the XP bug here on GAF, because I don't even think I would've noticed that the bug had affected my game...

Now I just feel like I should wait for the patch instead of playing the game :(

Blame? Do you know they're not doing the best they can? Even the most talented developer in the world will have their wok delayed due to unforeseen ssues at times.

How do you know for sure these delays wouldn't have been worse in the hands f anyone else? How do you know for sure they're not doing everything possible?

What am I not being honest about?

This is a thread about the patch anyway. Seems to me it's completely appropriate to share the frustration of how late a patch is on a topic about the patch. Why are you so bothered about this? It's not like this is the OT.

Venting frustration is fine, but getting emotional about it or having unrealistic expectations is just pointless.

This is a pretty shitty situation really but shit, because of this I feel like cdpr is doing me a favor. Since I'm avoiding playing this game because of the bugs, there isn't any thoughts to stop studying and start playing. Thanks for helping out with my horrible attention skills.

But seriously come on with this patch

Just ignore him. He is like an unpaid PR person for CDPR at this point. He admittedly doesn't have any of the major bugs but he has spent the last couple days in here trying to downplay people's frustration and coming up with all manner of excuses to shift blame away from CDPR.

Well I've been playing it solidly for days with no real problems but last night I think I may have hit the XP bug after the Broken Flowers mission.
I need to test it later to confirm but it certainly seems to have happened.
Guess what?
I'm not having a hissy fit. I'm not furious. It's not game breaking so I'll just do some side quests, contracts, POI's, play Gwent or many of the other unaffected activities.

It's a bug in a huge and complex piece of software. Bugs happen in large complex bits of software. The bigger and more complex the software then the higher the likelihood of bugs occurring.
Get over it and get over yourselves.

They're working to fix it and they'll give us a patch when they can.
The wonders of the modern age mean our games can get bugs squashed fairly quickly by developers. You should be grateful.

When Jet Set Willy was released on the Spectrum it had a collection of genuinely game breaking bugs and you couldn't just download a patch a few days later to make it all better. Even then you never heard the incessantly whining from so called 'enthusiasts'.

Oh but you paid your money . . .you expect it all to work immediately!!!

Well guess what . . this happens in every industry.
Ever heard of cars being recalled to have adjustments made once manufacturers figure out something isn't working or they discover a fault?

Some of you seriously lack perspective and you need to grow up.

The controls for combat are fine. Geralt does exactly what you tell him to. Don't mash expecting every input to come out, instead, wait for the current animation to finish.

On the other hand, the regular movement kind of sucks. Getting around especially in tight spaces is frustrating. Looting a particular container when there are other loot containers nearby is horrible. Dismounting the horse can be a chore.

Pretty sure they are dealing with it. End of the day, CDPR will release the patch when they do, complaining will not speed things up. And people here aren't? Everybody is dealing with it their own way, just like CDPR is dealing with it their own way, which apparently is not being completely honest about the matter.

Look, I'm all for being patient and cutting the developers a slack. I'm waiting, I'll wait if it takes a month, because I love the game. It just rubs me the wrong way that if some people have some animosity towards them because of the issue, they are "bitching" and being completely unreasonable.

So you can cut CDPR a slack, but you can't be as generous to people who were affected by this?

I wouldn't even care about the bug if there was just a list somewhere of what the xp rewards should be for specific quests so I can just give the xp to myself via trainer or console command.

Again. Feel free to complain, but throwing around absolutes like "CDPR don't know what they're doing" or "they should have found this before launching" is uncalled for, especially when people are taking it so personally and adding insults into the mix.

Top Bottom
