The Witcher 3 PS4 gameplay

Metacritic prediction: 82

Pros
- big world
- cool graphics
- sexy boobs
- lots of stuff

Cons
- i dont understand the story
- downgrade
- sexism
- chicken sandwich

VERDICT
polish video game, pretty good

Chicken sandwich is definitely a pro

Nothing better than a good chicken sandwich and a mug of juice after an exhausting day of monster-slaying

Low 80s high 70s my guess.

Witcher games aren't for everyone and I reckon we'll see that reflected.

I wonder why few are low balling estimate this much? TW1 and TW2 both scored over mid-80's in Meta so I don't see how TW3 would suddenly tank below it. Game needs to be seriously flawed in order for that to happen, imo.

Also game has reached over 1M pre-orders worldwide; https://twitter.com/witchergame/status/597759587765346304

Lol and doesn't the XB1 have marketing rights to this game also. Shits just embarrassing at this point for MS

Well, given MS' total silence about the game in the past months and all the amount of press CDPR is getting via Sony's official channels...I wouldn't be surprised if the deal is no more.

First two weren't as mainstream as that perorder figure shows. Mainly reviewed (especially the first) by the rpg PC gamer circle who are more receptive to these sorts of games.

With wider press coverage comes reviewers less versed in these sorts of games. People might come into this expecting the next Skyrim. (and i've seen plenty of awful video series comparing the two).

I'm happy to be wrong just have a feeling with swathes of people reviewing this who have no contract of the Witcher series we might see some polarizing opinions.

Still very excited for the game but don't think fellow Witcher fans excitement for the game will necessarily translate into high review scores.

They might have made the game more accessible, but that doesn't mean it's an accessible game. (does that make sense ha). Still expects a lot from the player, reading is a near requirement, combat still has the euro-janky charm and with a game leaning even heavier into the dense lore don't think it'll be for all.

We shall see. Happy to be wrong. But even then those scores doesn't mean CDPR have struck rpg gold. DA:I got high scores and personally found that blander than biege paint drying.

You have a point but despite that Witcher 1 (86) and Witcher 2 (88) scored really high.

Im guessing the MC will land in the upper 80s. Expectations for this game are sky high -- people are expecting a game that looks like The Order, has the atmosphere of RDR, has the freedom of Skyrim, the detail of GTA, the combat of Bloodborne, and storytelling on par with Game of Thrones. I think some reviews are going to suffer from the game not living up to some(any?) of that.

Review thread will be something...

Looking forward to seeing the verdict. I expect that it will land around 92-ish.

Yep, I kind of agree with this.

I feel like a LOT of people are going to go into this expecting a casual Skyrim-like experience and get burned badly.

I would love to know what has gone on behind the scenes. Maybe we will after the games been out for a while.

Hmm, I doubt that. I just saw a commercial for the game the other day, and it was plastered with XBO-related stuff. If I didn't know better, I would've assumed it was an XBO exclusive based on that commercial.

That's a bit unfare, I don't think I've ever seen a reviewer taking points off for downgrade.
Sexism however reads like POLYGON to me :)

I saw the TV commercial a lot this weekend. Has the "Available on Xbox" ending. Probably does far more for the average consumer than which platform it was reviewed on.

Yeah, the Conan review had MS written all over it and I havent seen it myself but folks have said the commercial has the "X" logo at the end.

MS protecting the Xbox version of this game maybe. They dont want it reviewed before launch due to it looking and performing worse than the PS4 version. Anyway, find it very strange.

Y'all are crazy if you don't think this game is getting atleast a 90 on metacritic. It wont deserve it...but it'll get it. It's the Dark Souls 2 effect, reviewers didn't want to get claimed as "casual gamers" so they gave it high scores despite how lame it was. Dark Souls 1 didn't get that much recognition by critics because it was the first one of those games to go multiplatfrom and then later went on to be a niche breakout hit that earned mainstream recognition. This is the same thing, if you think this game is going to get low scores because of it's "hardcore" nature - you know nothing about this industry because it's actually the opposite case. There has been nothing but positive press for this game, from it's consumer friendly DLC practices to CD Projekt Rekts humble uphill climb as a "top tier" developer.

This game has everything that appeals to critics:

Generic white protagonist: Batman wannabe complex, gruff, unshaven, loner, etc.

Bad writing that people pretend/think is good like Game of Thrones (the show)

Tired ass midevil fantasy setting

Story focused game

Slightly above average graphics with a somewhat decent art style

Shitty combat (they praise Assassins Creed year after year, they'll praise this too if the game itself isn't broken.)

All of that is just off the top of my head.

I can see Polygon and Kotaku critiqueing the way sex and female characters are handled but they'll still suck on CD Projekt Rekts dick.

I hope the game is fun but it just looks like a Assassins Creed game if Ubisoft didn't annualize them and also had slightly better writing (but still shitty) and better combat (but still shitty).

EDIT: I forgot to also mention most AAA games this gen have sucked or been underwhelming so that will also play to the games favor of getting a 90+.

I guess some people affiliate European with jankiness when it comes to RPGs.

I've seen a bunch of people mention jankiness here and in other threads, but I'm just not seeing it. The game looks very polished (har har) in every way.

I'm in that boat (re: jankiness and ERPGs), but this looks much better than the first 2 games in that regard, and worlds past other ERPGs in recent memory (Arcania/Risen, I'm looking at you).

I am having trouble deciding whether this is sarcasm or not.

Looks smaller than in the other photos, thank god. I need to put that somewhere, now it looks as big as a console box.

Holy shit some big stupidity you wrote there (if not sarcasm) of someone who doesnt really have a fucking idea of what the game is about.
And you already know it will not deserve it? Can you give me you magic ball, I need it to win money.

I love this post. I have a different opinion, but I can't argue with anything you said.

I've seen some of them. It's just hard to tell with those streams due to the quality. I'm cautiously optimistic.

While it's the weakest version technically, it sure looks pretty good from the few streams I saw.

I don't think anyone has anything to worry about, within reason. If you go into the console versions expecting it to look as amazing as it might on high-end PCs, you'll be disappointed. But the game that *does* exist on the consoles looks great from what we've seen.
