The Witcher 3 PS4 gameplay

I am talking about this. Its weird.

I suppose its one thing to get used to ,but it just doesn't look natural to me

Truth be told, I am going to have to play it first. But it does look like a big improvement to me.

framerate looks really south of what solid is supposed to be... maybe its the stream, but its not the first time we see early streams and other games do appear smooth as butter while streaming like The Order for example. Witcher 3 looks choppy quite often. Its an amazing looking game, but honestly i would prefer to be given the choice to revert to 900p with solid 30 fps gameplay. IQ is great and all but i can't stand the damn juddering caused when frames are dropped.

Just my opinion.

Dropping the PS4 version to 900p will have zero effect if it's CPU bound.

You must not play many games in which cameras have collision detection on them. He's standing with his back to the wall. Camera either pans around to the open space in front of him or the camera just moves up on the Z axis.

I seriously don't know what you are talking about based on the streams, it's not 30 locked but it's far from being terrible like you paint it, for a next gen open world game performence seems very reasonable.

It supposedly fades in and out depending on your combat status, but I won't be surprised if there is straight On/Off toggle for it. What we have seen there is a lot toggles for HUD elements in options.

Oops I meant enemy health bars. The player bars don't bother me at all. It's the enemy ones.

Yeah the enemy health bars bother me as well. Makes it seem like you're playing an mmo and really breaks the immersion. Hopefully we can turn them off.

Exactly, that's what I was trying to think of. Really does give it some sort of MMO quality. Don't like it at all. Not to mention it's just a generic looking bar above their head. If the health of an enemy is necessary to display always, they could have implemented a better way imo.

I am not painting it anything other than wishing for an OPTION to drop the res to 900p for those who prefer a smoother performance. I never claimed that the performance is horrible or something,so stop overdramatizing my comments. I saw the xb1 streams and it is smoother.

Now if there is no difference as another friend suggested due to cpu bound, then i can understand and by all means nothing should be done. But if 900p does provide a smoother experience an option would be really welcome.

There was no game where FPS was as dramatic as you suggest between XB1 and PS4, even with DA:I, both versions ran mostly the same and just in stressful moments PS4 drpped a little more, I find it hard to believe that even in worst case scenario it's gonna be different in TW3, so I think you do paint the PS4 more badely than it is.

You might think and assume whatever you want. And just how freedom of speech allows you to express your thoughts and assumptions, the same way I am allowed to express my opinions and suggestions.

Dont know why you make such a big deal out of a simple resolution option to toggle between 1080 and 900p. Its not like you wont play your game in 1080p.

Hey I have no problem with options, if it's possible to give the PS4 version an option for lower visuals and locked 30 than go for it, I won't use it as performance seems good enough for me, but I won't mind have it for others to use.

Here are all the HUD Options. There are a couple not shown here because the streamer doesn't go all the way down.

Glad we can adjust the HUD size, lock the minimap, turn off the combat feed, and the control prompts. Those all annoyed me in previous footage.

What's in the post processing menu?

Do those durability options mean we can turn off weapon degredation? That would be awesome.

Then we have no reason to argue really. Extra options are always a good thing. Those 2-3 frames or hiccups in 1080p would be a nice thing if i could eliminate them with a resolution option. The game as I said is pretty much a buy for me already, i just hate anything that has to do with juddering/stuttering. I dont mind the occasional framedrop when there is lots of action going on, but having stutters and hiccups while riding my horse kinda turns me off.

Now if the day one patch manages to address these things, then i would be even happier.

can u do main quests during different parts of the day, like can cutscenes be night time and day time? or will it automatically go to a certain part of the day when u accept a quest.

99% of open world games have a stutter/judder when traversing the world. It's usually because the game is streaming in the rest of the world as you're moving about. They could always just give you loading screens if you'd prefer that. Dropping the resolution down to 900p would probably have zero effect on the issues you're highlighting.

Yes, its dynamic time of day. Some quests are even altered by the time of day. The example they gave is during a hunt if you go after a particular monster during the day he might be out roaming and looking for food. If you go after him at night you'll probably find him in his nest.

What is in the post processing menu though?

No clue, I've never seen any footage of Post Processing or Graphics options.

There can be restrictions like person you need talk to is at spot X only during day hours or something like that, but other than that there really shouldn't be any restrictions on that. All cutscenes are in real time so if it's rainy night when you trigger cutscene then it's rainy night.

Agreed that most have stuttering but not 99% of them. I can name quite a few open world games of the top of my head, that are able to mask the streaming judder/stutter quite well. Now if all versions of Witcher 3 , due to the gfx engine and the way the streaming is implemented, results in stutters due to assets streaming, then so be it I can and i will live with it. But if it is something that can be avoided or minimized with a lower rez option, then i would like to have that.

We have seen W3 footage that suggests that gameplay can be smooth without eventual stutters. And i dont talk just PC now, nor do i want to start a stupid console war. I am just starting to feel that performance (even those 3 frames which actually constitute a 10% of total performance when talking about a 30 fps game) is important to me.

I can't decide which version to pick up (ps4). Retail or digital. I've heard that you get 16 DLCs with the retail version. Do we get them with the digital also? Didn't find something about it on the store site...

Edit: welp just find it...

All versions, any platform, new or used get the 16 DLCs free.

So excited for this I went to Gamestop to buy a used version of The Witcher 2 for 360. They had one left with everything included (map/soundtrack) in perfect condition. $15. Booyah

Yes, you get the 16 DLC with either version. The retail version comes with a map, soundtrack, compendium, and stickers. As far as I know, the PS4 digital version just comes with a PS4 theme but its also -10% off.
