Time flies.

I never really ended up liking it (Combat was shit, imho, menu navigation was annoying, the skill system felt clunky and the general movement around the world felt janky)... But I can see why people like it. And it obviously was CDPR's "breakout title".

Cyberpunk (after it got unfucked) was the first CDPR game I actually really liked.

kind of the same, though i don't play cyberpunk.
the meat of gameplay is not there, awful combat and character progression of gaaameplay kind of nonexistence imo. although i like the exploration.
i recall i have to mod it, put a firearms and mandalorian helmet, and i can progress far. but again, it might not for me, got bored after some hours and left to other game at the time

Well, I think it also helped that the other "big" western (kinda) action-y RPG around that time was Dragon Age: Inquisition... So not a lot of competition for Witcher 3.

Played it recently.

Finished it. Good quality here and there.

Bad combat and no way to make an interesting build.

Not sure why they made it so big when gameplay is not there. Cannot imagine playing more than I did.

For its time, must've been incredible.

First time when side quests had actual stories, massive and varied world etc.

Though today, I find one of the Assassins Creed more fun.

Just waiting for the sweet release of death by now tbh. 😅

Buuut, on topic. I didn't dislike the combat as much as some others here, it was actually quite fun if you upped the difficulty a bit and went into it a bit more strategic. But for me, the writing, characters, excellent world building and big-effort side quests was the big winner. There's no doubt that the devs poured their blood (& wine), sweat and tears into it.

How exactly is the combat shit? Please explain.
How do you make a fun build with such limited nos of skill slots? I didn't use heavy attack throughout the game cause I couldn't upgrade it.

Towards end of my short 50 hrs playthrough, I was dreading where was I supposed to put skill points. First time I felt leveling up was a chore.

Too bad Gerald controls like an overweight semi truck. Game is great on a conceptual level but just the thought of actually playing it puts me off.

It's first and foremost a story driven RPG, not build based slasher.

Was holding off playing this game. In the end, I completed it on Switch OLED docked and it was still maybe one of the best games I've ever played.

Impeccable atmosphere.

Re writing history I see. One of the best games of all time worth huge note in gaming history not only for it's quality but for showcasing you can actually have great writing on side quests unlike what some companies at the time were saying.

Could never get into it, installed it a few times but just wasn't for me. Any rpg elements, heavy or light is an instant no-no and if there is one setting I literally cannot stand in a game its a medieval era environment. I was hoping this would buck the trend what with reviews being so good but not so.

A shame

Yeah, the thing is, making wrpg without full graphic, at the time, will make market underestimate it. I forgot when, i felt more rpg in tyranny than any other common western (action) rpg at the times.

Damn! It literally took me almost 10 years to beat it (dropped it in 2017, finished this year), although I just Youtubed the last 3 hours of the game because it dragged on too long. Time does fly :messenger_face_screaming:

Crookback bog reunion party everybody welcome, bring your own thighs.
Still vividly remember many of the quests like I just played it last week, top notch storytelling. Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine are also contenders for best expansions of all time.

Not many games can have endorsement of current at that time POTUS

(my opinion of him doesnt matter, w/e i think about Obama, i think 20x worse of that polish PM and thats actually valid since im polish), POTUS is POTUS after all, its head and represents strongest country in the world, that means something :P - personally i think he didnt play it at all tho, he wasnt even briefed properly about the game, since if he knew game doesnt have any DEI nor wokeness he wouldnt endorse it at all ;P

Tears of woke devs complaining about "lack of diversity" and trying to teach polish ppl how to make look citizens of poland(which witcher3 is, middleages poland, where over 99% were white catholic christians- our country was established in 966 when our duke took on christianity +magic/legends) is peak stupidity.

Game was made for men(altho i know of many women who enjoy it wholehearthy, they literally think of Geralt as their "husbando" and who can blame them, guy is alpha af in every regard but thx to non complete mutation he can still have feelings unlike other witchers, basically top of the chain apex predator of a man- soft and hard at the same time ) so it sold gangbusters.

I enjoyed it a lot at launch, I played it recently and didn't enjoy it as much. I'm probably in the minority but I feel 2 was a better game.

Incredible game, hampered by poor combat.
Why no stealth? Been a while since I played it but I'm pretty sure there's no stealth.
Odd omission.
I might try it again on a harder difficulty, apparently it's better (the combat) when you really need to use all the tools at your disposal, instead of just mashing with swords and spamming igni.

Witcher2 was amazing, it still doesnt look terrible now if u play it maxed and game launched back in 2011:

I remember playing it on my superweak pc(core2duo and terrible entry lvl amd gpu) and game could either hold stable 30 on lowerst in 720p or dipped under 25 if i went for 900p and raised few settings to medium so it doesnt look dogshit ugly:D
Basically it looked and played somewhere like this:

like... I am running and how is it that you always end up catching on some fence, pole or door frame.
Bad combat too. Overal the gameplay is kinda bad.
But the story, world and graphics etc it's all great.

Good game to put on easy and play as adventure game.

I remember getting it day1 for the PS4 and...between the performance issues, Geralt controlling like a truck (pre-patch), mediocre to bad combat and the super slow gameplay loop I sold it after 1 week thinking "is this really what the hype is all about ?"

...Fast forward to almost 2 years later where i got the GOTY edition (DLCs included) and started it again from the beginning :
Couldn't put it down and played it religiously for 3 months straight with the credits rolling after 250-somethin' hours (DLCs included) and It's now one of the most memorable games I've ever played and belongs in my top 20 of all time.

See, this game is the sum of its parts, it doesn't excel at any one of them but when everything comes together...man, what a ride.
Also, the fact that most problems were fixed by then (typical of CD projekt) also helped.

Yes, the combat is still...kind of bad and the movement still feels wonky but, this is first and foremost a story driven game where - for better or worse - the gameplay comes 2nd, instead, the game focuses around its t-h-i-c-k atmosphere, gorgeous art direction, music and character development - it's that kind of game.

Sometimes, you just have to be in a specific (or shall i say, the proper) mood as to "get" something and especially so with this type of huge, slow, story heavy games where you have to sit down and listen /read to thousands of lines and faff about in its open world.

As a side note, CD Projekt should REALLY stop releasing games in a bad state - it happened with Witcher 1 where they actually released a whole new version, it happened with Witcher 2 where it was unoptimized and would melt GFX cards back in the day, it happened with Witcher 3 and it also happened with Cyberpunk 2077 where...well, we all know what happened with that one 😉
Basically, CD Projekt games should be played minimum 2 years after their release as to be properly enjoyed.

I feel u bro, as big cdprojekt fan(atic) i got nothing to defend them on, they release their games 2years early rofl- hell i played w3 only after definitive edition launched too, and couldnt be more happy, cp2077 launch experience on last gen coonsoles/weak pc vs 2-3years later on highend or at least midrange pc/current gen consoles is night and day :P
