'The Wizard of Oz' Is Truly Timeless

A few days ago, I watched The Wizard of Oz in full again for the first time since I was a kid.

The movie holds up so well even as a grumpy old adult like myself.

The sights, the music, the costumes.... everything.

I love the movie. My father hates it though and he hates Judy Garland for reasons I have no clue to as.

It's a delight on the restored Blu Ray. I've even seen it theatrically, which was a mind blowing moment when the only times I'd previously seen it was on a black and white TV as a kid.

Wicked Witch of the West is sum spooky shit when you're 5 years old and already scared of witches cause the old bitch on the end of your street resembles one.

The flying monkeys freaked me out big time. Especially when they were tearing the Scarecrow apart. Literally 🤣

Scarred me as a youth but I've grown to appreciate it now.
Scarred or scared?

The Wizard in his holographic form was frightening.

Let's not forget the Scarecrow having his stuffing ripped out and his legs severed from his body. He was the original Bishop when he got torn apart by The Wicked Queen of LV-426.

The Wizard gave you and the Lion courage so you okay now, bruh.

Did anyone ever watch Return to Oz? That was really creepy. I liked it a lot as a kid.

Anyway, we're going to watch "The Wizard of Oz" for our anual family christmas movie this year. Don't know what to expect. Never seen it.
Yup but I vaguely remember it.

I also saw the "prequel" with Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz.

Scarred. Sometimes you see things too young and it leaves a mark. I couldn't watch it for 20 years. Scary fucking film man.

The munchens freaked me out more than the wizard or witch. I also remember thinking that no one calling themselves a witch could be good. Not falling for it Glenda.

One of my friend's dad knew one of the munchkin actors. A few years ago, before the actor died, they ate out together. So he actually got to meet probably the only, at the time, surviving members of the film.

When I was a little kid, Darth Vader scared me. I was even afraid the mask.

Poltergeist scarred me. The guy ripping his face off led me to not look in a mirror for years and some of the ghosts like the stairway ghost and the dragon looking still scare the fuck out of me.

It's really an amazing movie. Charming and magical. Uplifting. The musical/theatrical elements were great, and the "lyrics" to many of the songs were very clever in terms of puns and wordplay. Made my wife watch it for the first time (she wasn't born in the US) last week, and she was enchanted. The production values are through the roof for a film that was made ~82 years ago. The level of detail in the sets, costumes, props etc. is mind-boggling. I too only saw this in black & white as a kid on TV, and the first time I was it colorized in HD I was blown away.
