You’re a wizard Harry! Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermoine Granger has been cast for HBO’s reboot.

I'm just glad they didn't cast Bella Ramsey.
It's not too late. They need someone for the

At least Hermione isn't black and trans like everyone expected

Though giving her an even slightly darker skin shade is going to make being called a "mudblood" a little too on the nose

This is probably the best J.K. Rowling could get out of HBO. I'm sure HBO wanted to make all 3 main characters black so be thankful for small blessings

The Snape casting is still fucking awful and they still have time to walk that back

Color in the casting is far, far less important to me than how well they fill the roles. Hoping they got the right people who are fans of the books making this.

Actually really surprised about the casting. Expected Harry to be gender switched to a girl, Hermoine to be black as the night and Ronald to check some other minority boxes.

Cast someone white to play Kingsley if the show gets that far. Seriously, it might go a long way with people if this wasn't strictly a one way street all the time.

The kids look like they'll work fine.

All the casting seems decent at a minimum except for the one elephant in the room. And because of that one casting I am not watching this as a massive HP fan.
Snape is one of the few that should not have been race swapped. Plenty of other characters could have been.

Dude playing Snape would've been a pretty decent looking Gilderoy Lockhart.
Kingsley is an obvious choice, but they need the race swap otherwise how would they cope.

How is Hermoine "fucked up"
All she has to do is be a book smart nerd that helps the boys out.

Her skin color has like zero impact on that. I'm white with a darker complexion than her. It's not a big deal. I'm more offended by how red Ron's hair is. That's like red red
As a european, that hermione is just white.

Not people in here dragging the Hermoine casting as if she was asian or black. Y'all will just say anything at this point lmao.
Sh's not eastern european but come on now...

I'm portuguese and you see people 100% from here way more taned than that during the summer months, lmao. It's called melanine and white people have that too.

So….im pretty hyped for this, films were great but the show is really going to be able to take advantage of keeping everything from the books. Really looking forward to to Prisoner of Azkaban season for sure.

No bad? I'd need to see them in costume.

Only thing I say is Harry Potter og books and movies came out before social media.
I wish them the best.

I have no idea if this will be a hit. Some people are completely opposed to a third retelling of the same story. Others will avoid it because they hate JK.

Should have created a new story in Hogwarts. Maybe even bring the OG cast back in camos.

It's sad to see people dragging a little girl through the mud because she's not light-skinned enough. Just bizarre behavior, man.

Good casting for the main trio, Hermione is not "race-swapped" imo, you don't need to be pasty white to be considered "white".

As for Snape, well, Alan Rickman absolutely killed that role, so not surprised they went with something completely different to avoid comparisons. My issue is not the guy's skin color, it's that he just looks like a normal, reasonably good-looking man. Snape is supposed to look like an oddity, he has a big nose and greasy hair, you can give the actor a wig but you can't change his bone structure.

With the way HBO have managed House of the Dragon season 2 I'm not confident that they have the golden touch.

I will say, these 3 look very conventionally 'cute' and I do think that that loses some of the weight. Radcliffe, Grint and Watson looked like the real life dorks I used to go to school with and that made them endearing.

She's just non-white enough for the people making it to say "we didn't even notice her skin color. Why did you, are you a horrible racist or something?"

Definitely played it "safe" i would've liked Harry to be a bit less generic looking, Hermione looks fine as does Ron, so far the only issue i have with the casting is Snape, i mean ffs, hes meant to be this gaunt almost ghoulish looking character, he's described in the book as "a thin man with sallow skin, a large, hooked nose, and yellow, uneven teeth. He has shoulder-length, greasy black hair which frames his face, and cold, black eyes" not some good looking handsome black dude ffs but i'll give the dude the benefit of doubt and keep my pitchfork stowed until i see a trailer and get a better look at him as Snape and his take on the character as lets face it, ain't no one gonna replicate Alan Rickman

All I hope for this series is that they actually stick to their claim of staying close to the source material. And that they do yearly seasons instead of this 2 / 3 year gap shit which clearly ISN'T going to work with this show.

his hair is FUCKEN red though, holy shit lol

These kids are going to have their lives changed, wish them all the best and hope fans give them the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I don't think this show is going have anywhere near the impact that the books and even the films did. It's another retelling of a story we already know and that already got the live-action treatment fairly recently. I think it'll compare to the impact of the films in the same way whatever Star Wars Show-of-the-Week compared to the Star Wars prequels. I expect it to do fine when it's airing and then for people to mostly forget about it.

Agreed, that's essential. For example, back when it was announced, I was worried when the Netflix adpatiation of A Series of Unfortunate Events was announced but then later relieved to hear it did all its seasons one year apart, as even with each season covering 4-5 books (the books are pretty short), letting too much time pass would have the main three actors get way too old to fit the parts anymore.

Now there's an example where I would roll my eyes at anyone who whined about a race change. Mr. Poe is white in the books, and while I did think Timothy Spall did a great job in the 2004 movie, there's no doubt that K. Todd Freeman gave an even better performance, just absolutely nailing the highly frustrating (yet somewhat amusing) incompetence and gullibility, and his condescending attitude to the clearly smarter kids. Excellent casting.

I mean those people have bigger mental health problems than the color of Hermoine's skin.

Now Snape being black, the only problem I have with that is……I always viewed Snape as this walking corpse. Dude looked like a vampire and Rickman…..well he filled the role well maybe TOO well.

That's not to say this actor can't fill those shoes and knock it out the park with the pettiness that comes along with being Snape. Pettiness sees no color.

Maybe he loses that dead man look and they do something else with him. Still hyped regardless.
if not a big deal then why were they mad about this.

I mean why does this even need to be made? I could see like an anime adaptation or something but it hasn't be THAT long.

casting aside, even if it was perfect, I doubt theyd nail it. It's gonna be generic trash, prolly good for the 1st season then turn to shit as it goes on just like 90% of all tv shows.
Yeah sure if it was a CW show but it's a HBO show. Just cause the second season of the last of us is middling doesn't mean every show going forward will end up like that, especially when we know the stories are already established.

Did the person above me really say anime? No fucking thank you on that weird pervy shit.
