Sure, over 9 seasons. Not rambled off in one fucking episode and tied into a nice shit stained crazy ass bow.

Depends on which episode you're talking about. There are definitely episodes where Mulder goes off on exactly that type of tirade usually just before they find out he was wrong about everything.

I enjoyed it but not as much as I was hoping. I feel like the writing was sort of poor but seeing all the conspiracy theory stuff added, the characters back, the soundtrack, etc made it still a fun watch. 8/10

I heard that the next two episodes were a step up in quality so I really hope that is indeed the case but I definitely did enjoy it, liked the visuals and most of the added mythology. Something about it felt rushed or forced or something but other then that it was still a fun hour of tv. I'm obviously on board for a lot more.

I watched up until Season 8 (part-way in) growing up. My cousins introduced me to Fallen Angel, which is another good one. Well, there are a lot of great episodes.

I ended up missing some due to family things, so I stopped watching because I didn't want to have missed anything or ruin the show for myself, and figured I'd rewatch it all or catch up on VHS or DVD.

Got all the seasons slowly, for $94 USED and $115 NEW on DVD, plus paid over $120 for Season One when it seemed like it was going out of print. My first paycheck went to The X-Files. However, my friend called me the next week and told me they'd been dropped in price to half price, so I returned the ones I'd bought to complete my collection and rebought them at the lower price.

Ended up watching the entire series on DVD, making sure to watch the great first movie -- which I still fondly remember seeing in theatres -- at the right time. I waited a long while before getting the courage to watch the second movie, though, and thought it was a black mark on the great series.

I enjoyed it all, and enjoyed this. It could have been better, though, and hopefully will get a lot better.

Probably the biggest surprise for me is how good Gillian Anderson still looks. I suppose she is only 47, but she must of kept in good shape all this time.

That was not even one of Chris Carter's worst episodes.

I love how horribly "hanging on by a thread" Cancer Man looks. Nothing comes between this man and his next cig.

fake edit: Holy shit a real throat cancer victim came on TV while I was typing this post. What the fuck.

Holy shit do not watch "Home" if you've never seen The X-Files, lol lol lol, you'll be traumatized.
Keeping it all in the family.

My favorite's the one with Luke Wilson and Sandlot kid, where Mulder and Scully both give their renditions of what happened in the case.

He's actually an avid anti-smoking advocate real life, only smokes seaweed cigarettes in the show.

Seeing as Jole's charactor disappeared and cancer man showed up at the end I'd say it's just another fake out like when they used Micheal Kritscow(sp?) in the season 5 finale to make mulder think it was all the gubment and aliens weren't real.

MR X like guy working to get Mulder back in the fold works. Mulder going nutso in the episode kinda hurts his character though.

I can see the idea, but god damn that was terrible execution. Mulder isn't some badshit crazy infowars commentator. He's an Ivy League educated FBI criminologist. His charictization here was terrible.

Gillian nailed it and feels legit.

I wouldn't mind this episode so much if it didn't feel like they were just throwing everything about the Syndicate out the window.

Heh, looking less like Cancer Man and looking more like Supreme Leader Smoke.

Maybe it was the shadowing of his face?

Looked like he had a mask/prosthetic over half of his face.

Was a fun watch, looking forward to the next ep.

I'm not surprised how they caught up on modern things even if it may have over-packed the episode. Some of this stuff didn't really exist the last time X-Files was on. And ofcourse the subtle one of Mulder covering his Laptop's webcam, which was totally in character for him, heh.

If this does decent are they going to do more episodes next year?

I hope that's the plan.

I am dying over here at the Smoking Man taking his cigs through a tube.

It seems so damned fitting lol.

In the ultimate twist it'll be Tea Leoni who gave the cigarette to CSM. Hell, she almost shut down the X-Files before.

-The Roswell flashbacks were pretty cool, some of the CGI on the alien could have been better but otherwise I thought the 1947 scenes were nicely shot.

-Was kind of bummed Scully and Mulder didn't hug when they saw each other, they still have the same great chemistry though.

-Rance Howard is still alive, wow. I'll always remember him best as Sheridan's father on Babylon 5.

Ending double whammy of
Svetlana getting fried by the UFO (which was kind of a clever twist since your first thought is they were going to abduct her but...nope) and CSM reveal smoking through his chest was awesome.

I don't think people realize X Files was a very campy and naive show back in the day filled with ammo for conspiracy nuts. This fits right in with TODAY'S conspiracy climate. Thought it was good, thought it was X-Files.

Yeah, people are way overreacting and acting as if over the top tongue in cheek conspiracy exploitation stuff wasn't always core to show, I really enjoyed it. There was too much wordy exposition obviously and Mulder (apparently) playing along a little too much with McHale's stuff was weird but the rest was very enjoyable. Tonight's episode had some warts but it was still fun and looks like it will keep getting better, I'm tuning out the internet for the rest of this ride.

Wasn't Mulder a fugitive from justice at the end of his run on the X-Files? Did they explain that in the premiere?

The best is where they're in an arctic research station and it's a ripoff of 'The Thing.'

I also like the one about the killer roaches, the killer fireflies, killer water during the hurricane -basically anything killer.

The trailer park vampire one is awesome, fluke man, sexy tattoo Scully, old man who can predict everything, oh man, so many good shows.

Well he has believed stuff without question in plenty of episodes before only to be wrong(not just in myrtharc stuff), but yeah he bought it all rather fast. Though this whole episode may as well have been on fast forward due to it's pacing.

FBI makes a deal with Mulder in I Want To Believe. He helps them find a missing FBI agent and they drop charges in exchange. Also Scully hints at one point that the FBI could have hunted down Mulder while he was in hiding during the years following the series finale, but they were just glad he was finally out of their hair.

That was a messy pilot/re-hash. Very heavy handed and melodramatic to the point of almost being funny. That whole conspiracy "we're taking this to my show" scene was absurd.

Ice, season 1. Definitely a fantastic episode.

The series has a lot of amazing episodes, many that never get mentioned in lists.

True, but he did so tying it into historical mythological context. This is the myth if the Jersey Devil in history, What if the Jersey Devil is X.

This was just regurgitating conspiracy nonsense out of thin air and yelling false flag. I don't know, it just felt so forced and different.

I guess what it comes down to is the old show made you feel like some of the conspiracies and stuff could have been real. Here they just the out references to a ton of shit, and made hasty conclusions on their jump to conclusion maf; it felt like they didn't earn it.

Somehow this felt rushed and uneventful at the same time. I kinda enjoyed it though, despite some wonky Mulder characterization. There was some nice Mulder/Scully banter, good cinematography, and the return of Mark Snow.

All in all, I was okay with it. Now bring on the good ones!

So guys lets speculate. Do we really believe it's a just a group of men pretending to use alien tech in order to take over America and then by extension the world?

I mean in the context of this show. It's not a reach that this could possibly be the endgame. I mean the CSM did lots of shit to hide the truth.

But then where do the Aliens fit in the grand scheme of things? I mean in the previous seasons we had Alien Bounty Hunters, Mulder being abducted etc.

Chris Carter himself probably doesn't know the answer to that question.

I actually didn't mind it that much but it does have a lot of problems. Chris Carter had a lot that he needed to stuff into 45 minutes and it is going to be way too overwhelming to a lot of people.

What I loved is that it felt and looked like an X Files episode. It's sort of just like jumping right back into the deep end of the mythology though and I'm not sure that's where we needed to begin.

Also, we've been down this road before with Mulder's faith being tested to the point that he doesn't believe. This might have some new twists but it feels familiar to that.

Overall it works as a workaround for the 2012 date.

New episode was pretty great. The way they went about the episode was good because of the stuff that happened in the series that had to be explained after all this time. Shows that great things could happen if done right and everybody cross their fingers for more episodes or season after this to go back into random cases of odd crazy stuff.

TheSeks

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
I only remember a helicopter shooting missiles in to a cave where he was residing at the time.

I wonder how they're gonna retcon that. Because they made it pretty clear he was consumed by the fire.
Clone?

Wasn't Mulder a fugitive from justice at the end of his run on the X-Files? Did they explain that in the premiere?

Yes. And only Scully "knew" where to find him/how to contact him. That's why Skinner phoned her to get him in contact with Joel McHale's character. Essentially, Scully and him were on the run at the end of the series. But the second film had them living a life seperately (and never really explained it beyond "Mulder is underground") and the same is here. Scully is living her life (because the government thinks she's not a threat, I guess?) and Mulder is pretty underground (while still having a smart-phone and internet. Fake ID's?)

Yeah I want to believe(hur hur) that it's all a fake out and cancer man is still clinging to his precious project(and he somehow got back in with the colonists) and they'll at least hint at what happened with the whole invasion and/or offer some closure but I don't think carter has an endgame in mind and weren't there rumors this end on a cliffhanger?

We'll see.

Well assuming the episodes are finished it definitely has an ending. I just want to see where people are at right now after this episode.

I was just mocking the fact that Carter pulled out reversals out of his ass many times in the past.

That being said, it does seem like this is the direction they are taking the series. Like DoctorWho said, a solution for the 2012 plot hole.

I think it's an interesting new premise that will have plenty of material to mine from the real life US government fuckery of the past 15 years.
