Scully's definitely part alien cuz those legs are outta this world.

It's kind of weird getting back into the X-Files again, especially since I lost interest in the series when Annabeth Gish and the T-1000 took over as the de-facto agents. This episode hit the right amount of nostalgia without it being to overbearing. I'm willing to give this a chance and see where it goes.

Also, LTTP, but should I binge Fringe? I heard good things about it back then.

So guys lets speculate. Do we really believe it's a just a group of men pretending to use alien tech in order to take over America and then by extension the world?

I mean in the context of this show. It's not a reach that this could possibly be the endgame. I mean the CSM did lots of shit to hide the truth.

But then where do the Aliens fit in the grand scheme of things? I mean in the previous seasons we had Alien Bounty Hunters, Mulder being abducted etc.

I like the idea that this was all set up to get Mulder back into the game. Why else include the last scene with the CSM lamenting the XFiles being reopened? It also makes sense in context with the military destroying the craft and the UFO at the end. It was a ruse, maybe some of it true, but probably not.

There's a ton from the prior run that was never answered. And the 2002 finale was just horrible (despatched it before this airing).

Fringe has a 15 - 20 or so episode run in the middle when it was perfect television, but it starts and ends slow.

I'm surprised you guys consider yourselves fans if you hate the mythos episodes THAT much. I previously liked them with the ignorance of the post-S5 episodes and the colonist stuff. At this point it's going to be convoluted and have contradictions but I'm just going with it. I'll even admit that the Infowars diatribe near the end made me feel a little paranoid. I also don't notice the pacing, fast cut, and acting complaints. It was a fine premier, but it does feel structured like the series should go longer than 2-3 mythos episodes.

I want to know if George W. Bush watched this episode and kept thinking "man why the fuck do they gotta drag me into this".

Complete and utter shit writing and story but man it was fun to see them all together again.

re: Fringe, season 1 is not good. season 2 & 3 are great. season 4 & 5 are not as good, some great episodes in there and the finale is pretty good.

Fringe gets weird, but it's definitely worth watching. There are some really dull moments, but by the end of it, I found myself super emotionally invested in the characters. Also, the ending ended up being much better than I anticipated.

My biggest beef was that some of the creepy or weird shit they setup didn't deliver or just sort of petered out.

So I stopped the X-Files rewatch I did last year some time in season 7, meaning I never got to X-Cops! Just watched it now, that was pretty great :)

I'm not sure if I watched it the first time around, I didn't really remember it, whereas I remembered remembering a lot of eps from when they first aired.

I have many, many thoughts on that episode.

The first of which being that it should have been two hours. It obviously wanted to be two hours. But for some reason, Fox Executives didn't think that the event series return of the most beloved show on the network past 24 didn't need a two hour premiere.

Because a lot of the shit that happened in that episode came way too quickly.

All in all, I liked it. It was like they pulled a lost episode from 2001, post season 9 finale. But that's also why it needed more time. They tried setting up a completely new arc in an hour, and it was a huge stretch at that.

I enjoyed it, it definitely sets the stage for an interesting arc.
I don't believe the conspiracy of men as I believe that was somewhat attempted before in an earlier season, let alone previous episodes with the Black Oil/Alien Bounty Hunters. More than likely it's misinformation and the Alien colonists will be making a move soon

I haven't seen the new series yet, but I think they may end inconclusive... I recall in interviews a few months back Anderson saying to her this was the last of X-Files, the closing act. I just can't see them pulling some amazing conclusive conclusion in 6 episides, with some of those episodes not even being 'main' episodes. Plus the show's slogan being, "The truth is out there," and other ambiguous things. This doesn't mean I think it'll end on a cliffhanger, though.
They've heavily implied there will be more six-episode seasons followed by the long-awaited third film.

Oh, link me too. I haven't read recent news on the series but I remember from a few interviews a few months back they made it sound like this is it.

It wasn't as in the face regarding everything like tonights episode was tho.
That's because back then nothing was as in your face as it is today. The speed at which information is given, accessed and consumed isn't the same as it was back then. There's a lot more to consume now than there ever was in every way imaginable even with the same base theories and the show's setup and pacing reflects that. Example: information about Roswell in the 90s is nothing compared to information we have about that conspiracy today. Naturally, the way that story will be told decades apart will always fit the period in which that information is accessed and consumed. You will find many more branching cobwebs attached to those stories today than there ever were, leading you in a zillion directions while in a jet boat where before you had to swim.

ok so has scully always been able to "test for alien dna"? why didn't she test herself years ago?
She did. That's why it's dumb. She tested herself and the black oil/purity antivirus several times. They did this whole arc with it being ppl not really aliens
in season 4(5?).

I'm not entirely sure what happened this episode, especially the end.

Mulder and Scully get pulled back into the game by a 9/11 truther. Mulder finds a suspect through 9/11 truther and evidence of things that he believes leads to a bigger conspiracy that isn't aliens.

Suspect is "got"ten by the syndicate/CSM. Is "abducted"/EMP'd car'd and exploded via a "UFO." Leaving Mulder without a solid lead in his theory there's more to it since his rock-solid lead is gone now.

I dunno, I thought the hour was pretty straightforward myself.

Yeah the episode was far from award winning but was still better then no new episodes at all. For those who didn't like it, are you going to keep watching or bail out?

definitely going to keep watching because I've heard the MOTW episodes are actually good

I really liked it for the most part. I was hoping that they would definitely do a longer season than the 6-episodes. I am definitely glad we are getting the 6 episodes, but I hope that if this is at all popular, we get more! I would have liked to see 12-episodes for a little better arc.

Considering they already did the "it was human governments all along, not aliens - the aliens were a front!" thing before, I'd imagine this is actually setting up a further plot twist where it actually is aliens.

Kind of a silly rehash.

Nope. There are actual aliens, but the conspiracy is human made. The true twist will come during a syndicate meeting in episode 4. All the players will finally be reavealed.
huge spoiler - final shot of episode 4

oh my god that would be amazing

I'm watching Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose right now. Another classic, which I remember a lot better now that I'm watching it again. (My memory sucks with TV shows, movies, games, etc.)

Man, I miss Peter Boyle. He was a fantastic actor. I enjoy watching him in Everybody Loves Raymond repeats.

that original intro T_T

I liked it. It wasn't great but it's the first episode sequel to a show that ended 13 years ago so I'm not too bothered. I can't wait for the Morgan ep!!

I'm actually starting to think Duchovnys genuinely forgotten how to act 'Mulder' and is confusing 'laconic' with 'bored as fuck'

Don't remember that one, what was the story?

It's about teenagers getting abducted but it's like a meta story because every person they interview gives them a different version of the same facts (which are dramatized) and also a guy is writing a book about the abductions (Jose Chung)

It's the one with Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebek as Men in Black
