The X-Files S10 |OT| The Truth Is Still Out There - Mondays 8/7c

All this talk about the 2012 thing. I don't remember picking up on that in the finale, and still don't know why CSM was in the cave a decade early. But my memory is really bad.

X-Files has always had a knack for being brutal/gross and making me want to look away.

Nice touch having a different actor for William in each of their dreams to show how they imagine him growing up. That was so sad.

Fantastic episode!

Scully: "You want to believe!"
Mulder: "The truth is out there!"

ALL IN THE SAME GODDAMN CONVERSATION.

What a clusterfuck of dialog. The writing was absolutely terrible and I am hopeful that the next few episodes will be better written. As it stands, most of the characters are absolutely not necessary.

/Disappointed.

Okay that was way better than the first ep, lot more meat on those bones, and hey, some humor too! Fox should've stuck Carter in the accounting dept and let the two Morgans and Wong steer the thing. Some classic gross out stuff, even some I was wtf'ing at
that baby hand out the womb.
Felt like a nice full meal, can't wait for next week.

Also got a little emotional at Mulder and William quoting JFK. Good shit.

This episode was really fun and creepy, plus it had some good emotional moments for Mulder and Scully. Needed more Joel McHale, though.

Best line of the night:

"I blacked out after Goldman's eyes popped out of his sockets. Believe me, you can't unsee that."

Mulder had the slightest shit-eating grin when he said that. I laughed my ass off.

What happened Joel McHale? And what about Scully's alien dna? Um who reactivated the xfiles unit?

We don't know what happened to McHale, all we know is his website went down and he's missing.

Skinner reactivated the X-Files, he's still the Assistant Director of the FBI and I imagine with his pull he was able to reinstate Mulder and Skully as Federal Agents. It is a bitch of a stretch though considered he had zero input on it's closure.

But like Skinner said the country got "much weirder" since 9/11, so despite Mulder and Skully sticking there nose where it's not wanted they need the X-Files. With all the paranormal cases going unsolved since the X-Files closed.

Plus it wouldn't be fun to watch Mulder and Skully running around as civilians. They need to be FBI agents again :p

Thanks

Reading it now. A lot of it went over my head as a kid/teen.

I need to get the Blurays and watch the series again.

Yeah, that was hilarious

Really some Lucas level writing there. Speaking of Lucas, Carter seems like the weakest link of his own franchise at this point too. Tonight was great though, let's hope Darin Morgan can knock it out of the park next week.

For all that buildup, the two kids seemed like they were in the episode for five minutes. Better than last night; however, both Mulder and Scully sound like they've been smoking for a while though. Sounded like Carrie Fisher, but she's got a few years on them as well as other things.

GA is definitely playing scully more somber intentionally. during the memories with William she sounded a lot like the scully of earlier seasons

One thing that's bugging me: Carter didn't really take "My Struggle" from Mein Kampf, did he? Because that's kind of offensive or just weirdly inappropriate to say the least. Unless that actually ends up being the mantra for whoever the new villains are?

I mean is that there would have to be a third party we don't fully know about yet to use the Syndicate and the Colonists both, that has motivations separate from theirs. The Syndicate definitely was about saving their own skin, but they were very clear amongst themselves on why they were developing hybrids, and it wasn't for this new reason.

Maybe "My Struggle" part 2 will shed some light on the third group which will clarify things. Perhaps the third group manipulated the Syndicate to make the hybrids for their own gain? Either way, aliens are still real.

Cancer Man was always about control. The Syndicate used control to work on their plans, but it was more of a means to an end. Cancer Man, on the other hand, was very open about and outspoken about how people need to be controlled, much more than Well-Manicured Man or the Elder or anyone else in the Syndicate.

Maybe that's why the third group is still using CSM, he sees humanity as nothing more than lemmings like they do.

Edit: And yes, I definitely believe CSM was manipulating the Syndicate as you theorized earlier. He always seemed like he was much smarter than them and like you said, his quick getaway before the Rebels killed them does seen pretty convenient in hindsight.

Yeah this was my chief complaint with the ep, really wanted to see more interaction between them, or some
Akira level shit go down
, prob a budget constraint deal. Though between juggling that and the William arc something had to be trimmed.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Just finished the first episode. Yikes. Who wants more of this mythology nonsense? Now with even more layers of wild deception to keep Mulder away from the truth! Should've just contrived the quickest way to do six monster-of-the-week eps.

Thought this new series was going to end up being a big mistake after watching that first episode, but the second one was so much better. Thank fuck.

In Re-opening the X-files, Carter said he took the title from a series of books by Karl Ove Knausgaard.

The first episode felt really messy, moving too fast to get the characters where they needed to be and the new angle on the mythology going. But those gymnastics got us to Mulder and Scully investigating X-Files and this second episode was great. Looking forward to more.

Hey guys, didn't want to look through this topic because spoilers, but I was wondering if there's somewhere I can legally stream the first two episodes? Missed 'em on TV. :/

Fox.com/thexfiles had the first episode uploaded today. I'm assuming the second episode should be there Tuesday. Free, just the normal ad breaks.

You can tell Chris Carter had the hugest boner when he wrote that. So bad.

I was disappointed in all the "free energy" "warp field drive" (after it cloked, wtf does that have to do with it) and atmospheric signals crap they spilled out so breathlessly.

I loved tonight's episode and I know they were trying to cram in as much as possible but one thing I thought was a missed opportunity was Mulder and Skully's re introduction into the FBI.

For instance for a sidearm exam at a firing range they could have tested to see if their aim was up to snuff at a firing range. I mean it makes sense that if they're going to be Federal Agents again than they need to be tested for their skill with a sidearm. So at a indoor range with paper targets Mulder fires and his grouping is erratic with shots all over the place, meanwhile we see Skully's target come forward and her grouping is all nice and neat with all head shots. They give a brief glance at each others results and the instructor remarks on Skully's excellent marksmanship while Mulder rolls his eyes.

That and I thought a phsysical PT test would have been good where they're both doing a timed run with cadets. Mulder is slow and falling behind while Skully is keeping up with youngins passing Mulder.

The first episode didn't retcon the mythology, the nature of the mythology was just modified and reversed. Aliens are still real (there's no way humans could have engineered complex entities like the black oil, greys and the faceless rebels), Mulder and Scully were still talking about the implications of alien DNA in tonight's episode it's just that...

Before:

-Aliens are real, they're basically very bad because they want to colonize the earth and either wipe out or subjugate humanity.

-The syndicate is the lesser of two evils, they do terrible things and are murderers but they were trying to buy time so at least some of humanity can survive (well, maybe mostly themselves and their own families).

After:

-Aliens are real but their interest in visiting the earth was instigated by the first nuclear tests and some kind of concern for humanity (how genuine that concern really was, who knows), not enslavement and exploitation.

-People like the syndicate are the real evil, they have killed innocent aliens like the Roswell survivor ruthlessly and are using alien technology in order to ultimately enslave humanity.

So basically, unless I'm missing something it boils down to the syndicate and whoever has apparently replaced them along with survivors like CSM are the ones who actually wanted to enslave humanity all along, not the aliens.

Whatever happens I'm thinking the Tad O'Malley story at least gets turned on its ear in some way during the finale.

What about how the syndicate went to goto the aliens to start colonization but got all killed?

That happened.

WOW! Huge step up from the premiere.

Those last scenes with Mulder and William hit right in the feels.

And nice to see Doug Savant from Melrose Place. Haven't seen him ages.

This felt like an X-Files episode. Great.

Can't wait for the next episode.

What a great episode. The intro was already great and made me say "Yep, that is some classic X-Files stuff!" And it only get better later on! Glad we are back on track.

We Akira now.

Far better than the premiere, but everything still feels kinda forced. From Obamacare to Scully reminding us which year we're in ... still doesn't really flow. I do appreciate them cutting corners when it comes to explanations in the interest of actually getting somewhere in 6 episodes.

Focusing on William could come to bite them in the ass, but the flashbacks weren't the worst (especially the abduction scene is fucked up). The children hospital stuff was hard for me to watch for personal reasons, but the effects were pretty good and adequately usettling.

Now the hype for the best episode of this "season" begins. Can't wait.

there were so many scenes and shots where i found myself truly feeling like i was watching the x-files again in that second episode.

jesus that first episode was awful, but the rebound was so good.

Carter said he took My Struggle from a book, but not Mein Kampf.

I read the mythology summary and my mind was spinning. I remember a decent amount of it, but as I said before, a lot went over my head. There was so much to it.

The second episode was much better, but it didn't feel anymore like The X-files than the first episode. Which is to say they both felt like the X-Files but one was a good episode of television and the other was mediocre.

So it is quite lovely to have The X-files back, both the good and bad.

Episode 2 was definitely better than 1 but still not great. The mythology has gotten too big and convoluted. They needed to completely reboot it or ignore it but they've done the opposite. The poor writing does not help at all. The preview to episode 3 looked pretty good. Hopefully we can get at least one great episode out of this mini series.

I also don't understand why both Mulder and Scully look so weird on the show. They both look great in person, but on the show they both look oddly older and worn down. And not in an natural, aging way. Scully's wig is definitely a part of it, it does not look great.

Ok episode but still C+ at best for me. There were moments that delivered (Mulder actually being funny again) but then you still had terrible acting, I laughed out loud when that lady said 'Bad things happen when the birds gather!!' it was just so bad felt like a scene out of the happening.
