God, I haven't watched any of the other episodes but my friend said he heard 'last night's was the best' so we watched it.

WTF kill it with fire. That was AWFUL in every way.

Waiting for an edit where his first hand says "NED" and his seconds says "BAN"

Wow, that Muslim terrorist cell in Texas thing was incredibly on the nose and frankly quite offensive. Not to mention the atrocious dialogue. This episode killed the season for me.
Yeah my problem too. Also Osama Bin Laden? They don't give a shit about him now, would have been slightly more believable if it was an ISIS sympathizer.

But still I would have rather had the Muslim dudes from the beginning be a red herring.

I can totally see claire fisher and the other dude as a replacement in the future of the show if duchovny and anderson don't want to.

apart from that, all the episodes so far just feel like they could have been a lot better.
I don't hate it, it's entertaining, but I think it could be really good, but something's in the way

I think they need to throw in a couple of fresh writers for another season.

Good writers who have only seen The X-Files from the outside and might introduce some new ideas without fundamentally changing the show.

Also, Gilligan.

So I got the first 3 seasons on bluray. Can I just say this is some of the cheapest cases I've seen? I guess for $15 you can't complain. Will start watching tomorrow.

The best part? If you like those, season 4-6 will probably knock your socks off.

As a return with 6 episodes I'm very disappointed overall. I was really wanting them to explore the mythology storyline more. I just don't see the point of random episodes after all this time.

Ugg, mytho episodes are X-files' worst.

Maybe Anderson should get another go at it.

Carter already tried to get Gilligan and he was busy with Better Call Saul. Although if Saul's ratings continue to tank...

This weeks episode was absolutely fantastic. The preview for it looked super boring but this is easily on par with episode 3 for me. Just well written and different. I also loved Mulder's "trip" which was hilarious but the episode had a lot of heart and some great dialogue in spots. 9.5/10 from me.

The season finale is next week and it looks like it too could be pretty damn epic. I really hope this show comes back for more episodes!

considering the episode order and settling back into the vibe of the show, I think it's been a very successful revival. The show has been off the air for 15 years.

I would be really sad if Saul didn't come back but a new Gilligan X-File would be an okay consolation prize.
Saul isn't going anywhere. Its ratings aren't tanking. People forget that AMC gets shit ratings outside of The Walking Dead and cable in general gets lousy ratings. Saul is still had the second highest ratings on cable Monday. It has higher ratings on AMC than any non-Walking Dead or Into the Badlands series that has already been renewed. Has higher ratings than almost every season of Mad Men's 7 season run. Walking Dead's financial success pays the bills for their lower rated shows' critical success.

the last episode was kind of bad, but i loved the mulder tripping out part. the A plot was boring and i dont know why the dialogue wasnt jiving for me between einstein and mulder.

overall it was just okay, but definitely felt like the weakest so far

It's been back for one episode, being the fourth (or second depending on how you want to view WWE Raw's rating) highest rated show on cable last Monday night is far from tanking.

Episode 5 was such a bummer after the genius of episode 3. The entire opening sequence we were waiting for it to go somewhere interesting and it was just on-the-nose through and through. Ugh so disappointing.

And then the fucking Lumineers. Just twisting the knife in.

I changed my PVR timer to "once" instead of "weekly" since the X-Files ends tomorrow (*insert crying face here*). However, it didn't appear when I looked at the schedule. It just showed in timers.

This has happened before and I've caught it most times. I deleted and redid it, because I thankfully noticed it. I've had this issue on more than one PVR.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Speaking of, watching the finale of X-files season 9, it's such tremendous bullshit that they retconned the alien colonization stuff. I wish I could tell my younger self ti just ignore all the mythology entirely.

I actually don't mind the retcon. I was pissed at "I want to Believe" didn't even touch on it and was a Movie of the Week episode. :| Like, how the hell can you just gloss over the 2012 deadline you wrote in the TV series finale and expect most people to just go "oh well, they must've stopped it somehow!?"

After the first couple episodes I thought maybe they were going for a "greatest hits" kind of thing going into various aspects of the show ever its original run and the movies but now I'm just lost.

Episode 3 was great though.

It's pretty obvious that colonization is still a thing.

5th episode. What the fuck? None of that made any sense.

Placebo drug trip was wonderful though.

It would have made more sense it if was aired as intended, leading into episode 3. The structure of this season has been Mulder's struggle. It's actually the most plot-heavy X-Files season ever.

Oh fuck, I totally forgot about the second movie. lol
Although I guess it took place before the deadline technically?

I mean, I can kind of see why they did it this way. If it followed the first episode I'm not sure that would have been wise; reception to that one was all over the place and the second episode actually got into a more straightforward investigation story with horror elements. The drug trip episode, had it been the second one, would have made people wtf all over the place, so putting the second episode and third episode together built a lot more confidence I think in the season as those two were back to back greatness (IMO).

This felt like some weird character-centric insert, which is normally fine, but I don't really know what I was supposed to get out of it. I'm not sure I hated it or anything as it was obviously amusing, but definitely strange.

I just saw episode 5. I haven't read other peoples' interpretation of what Chris Carter was going for, but to me it seemed like it was all about words. He's saying words have power, religion is words passed down through generations. If you can believe the words of religion, then you can believe that Mulder heard the bomber's words in his vision. All of it requires faith.

I think the idea is interesting. The execution was lacking. It was a bit misappropriating of Muslims and Arabs. Miller should have been an Arab actor to show something more in the episode than just the dated 9/11 conception of Arabs, and it would explain why he spoke Arabic. Although the guy they got to play Miller was pretty cute...

Watching ep:3 here in the UK, the first ep was very good, but ep:2 & ep:3 have been disappointing, I loved the original series, but it seems that David/Mulder isn't even trying any-more & Gillian/Scully is the one taking more of the lead role.

I was very excited when I heard it was coming back, now I am thinking that it may have been better to leave it all in the past, it has seemingly become a parody of itself :/

Dat lack of hype 20 minutes before the season finale slash potentially final piece of The X-Files we are ever going to get...

I'm sad. I hope this won't be it. But at least it means that the second movie won't be the last, even if it is.

I'll be watching it later tonight. PVRing it.
