The worst is behind them honestly. Switzerland and Sweden were the biggest threats. True, they failed to beat both, but at least it's not an uphill battle...

Edit: both norway and china are unbeaten so far, won't be an easy task for Canada.

Why is this the first womens ski jump?

A lot of countries have just never developed female athletes, especially in specialised sports like ski jump. Skiing, skating, all children can do them, so you have women represented in those sports. Because there's a larger representation, the IOC supports those sports because there is a large parity in terms of ability. Women's hockey was added fairly recently because up until now only US/Canada were competitive at that sport. There is danger of women's hockey being removed because of a lack a parity. So sports come and go based mainly on interest and competitiveness. Now, for whatever reason is women's ski jump's time.

That explanation is lacking. Women's ski jump has certainly been bigger than other sports present in the olympics. Female ski jumpers have been very vocal and worked hard all through the new millennium to be included. The opinions and statements from some higher ups in IOC and other associations ('medically unsound' etc) revealed a staggering ignorance and men with antiquated opinions and didn't really say anything about the level of the sport.

In fact they sued the IOC to be included in the last olympics. That didn't work, though it got a lot of attention, but finally they're in now, overdue. And they also have a world cup series running. Still for no reason they only jump one hill here. On the bright side the competition in Sochi was even and good, revealing depth to the field, and there should be no issues expanding it further in Korea.

I'm excited for men's ski slopestyle tonight. I was already super impressed with how the women performed, and hopefully the snow won't be so slushy now.

Every goddamn time I turn on NBC, it's figure skating. For an entire week. Fuck that shit. I have nothing against it but show something else for a change. USA, NBCSN, CNBC are all airing their regular stuff too

Today's events (Thursday's) begin in just 30 minutes. But on the East and central time zones, after the news, NBC goes back to airing yesterdays events. If you want to watch live events, you have to find them online. ugh.

Yeah, we only get a few live events in the Eastern time zone early in the morning on NBC Sports. Unfortunately they then replay most of it during the 8PM show on regular NBC. Unfortunately Skeleton is on between 5:30 and 7:30AM EST.

Looking forward to the Luge Team Relay tomorrow.

I still have no idea how scoring/points work in Curling.

Whichever stone is closest to the center is the scoring team.
Then count all the stones that are of that same color which are closest to the center, until you hit a stone of the opponent's color.

So the number of your stones that are closest before your opponent's = score.

Of course to score they need to be at least in the outermost colored ring.
