damn, missed all of the halfpipe finalists. Don't know why I've been staying tuned into the Czech/Sweeden game during the breaks.

I'll cease. Only brought it up in here because he drive-by trolled in the hockey thread before bailing.

Looking for another medal in figure skating pairs!

Drive by trolled really? Then bailed? Wow! Dummies posting that Chechmanek is on the same level as Luongo, Scrivens is better. You can't argue with stupid!

Ufortunately that wouldn't surprise me. FIS's handling of snowboard has always been second rate. Anyway congrats to the US.

because of Torah's low score (& Clarks relatively high score) ? the judges might be a little bit sketchy but they did a fine job in the men's competition

Halfpipe seems to get hyped as elite status, but it's such a lame event. There are much better snowboard events in the olympics.

Judged sports are always going to be the most controversial.

I've gotta say Slopestyle has really won me over as far as trick-based events go. Both versions.

Ski slopestyle entertains me a LOT more than the snowboarding version. I mean......motherfuckers are hitting jumps backwards!

:lol blew my mind when I first saw that. I struggle to ski backwards in the first place, never mind hit a jump backwards, do some tricks and then LAND it backwards. Like what the actual fuck

Still remember the final of the last Olympics when the American girl was out in front, did a trick on the last jump and bombed it. So gutting for her, but pretty funny looking back on it

I remember that :lol Kinda served her right for showboating though.

Someone just sent me this and I nearly spit coffee on my screen. Sorry if it's a repost.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying the slopestyle. Especially the ski one. Going backwards up a jump hill is insane. Same with landing backwards.

LOL I don't feel bad at all for anyone that happens to. You showboat before the end, you deserve anything that's coming to you. I hope it happens to anyone that does it.

If you watched women ski jumping yesterday, they did the same there...

Have to say I'm not always too happy about ski jumping judges in general though. Shoddy landings = 18, 18.5 way too often.

Those cross events are great.
racing events >>> judged events

The race events are great for spectators but accidents outside your control can ruin everything in one moment. Wild west hustling.

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?

The whole FIS thing has been a huge issue of contention for many in the snowboard community for years.

SWITCH! IT'S CALLED SWITCH!

nothing to you personally, but this another reason the commentators have been a fucking joke this year. Get your fucking terminology straight if you're covering a specific sport with a specific vernacular.

Yeah I remember him saying similar stuff before Nagano. I like his points but, say, X Games sb competitions are pretty much the same as the OG (re: his comments about boarders nailing one run to win, no creativity). Maybe that's part of his issue, I guess, that this has influenced other board contests as well.

I get that it's switch (or goofy, lol) on a snowboard/skateboard........but when they're on skis.......shit is BACKWARDS to me, homie!

For me personally, it's more so that we had our own organizations, and they were replaced by ones with nothing to do with the sport and people who were in no way, shape or form qualified to be involved. (or even give a shit about snowboarding to begin with)

Has ski cross started yet? I really dug that during Vancouver, crazy sport.

Have to wait until thursday next week I'm afraid. But snowboard cross begins this sunday.

Yeah I totally get that frustration and anger. I also get boarders who want to experience the olympics.

Part of the game. Part of the strategy. Short track speed skating is roller derby chaos, but Hamelin's strategy it to stay out front to avoid the accidents.
Not always possible in all racing sports, but a race is better than relying on some inept judge to decide your fate. Judging bias and corruption (figure skating) is another level of suck.

I heard that the Men's halfpipe was judged by Skiiers... would you know this to be true?

The FIS is in charge of judging everything (as far as I know)
they get manuals to explain everything to them, it's kind of infuriating.

Like getting baseball players to ref a football game.

For sure, I dig the hustle and the athletes who figure out how to (mostly) stay in control.

Judging has its issues. Sometimes they can be fixed. But of course there will always be margins of error. I think that's still worth it to have very unique sports and athletes in the limelight and become mainstream stars instead of just discarding the events because the system is not perfect. There's a reason the blend of artistry and sport captivates audiences so.

Understandable, but talking to the snowboard athletes usually shows that they're absolutely thrilled to be part of the olympics. X-Games is one thing, olympics is a whole new level worth the adjustment.

Organizations have to cooperate with the IOC if they want to participate. They can't just do whatever the hell they want.

It's too bad.
A week or so ago some riders were quoted as being concerned that the half-pipe was turning into a "spin-fest" ... because to the naked eye of the uninitiated (that being the skier judges) the more spins, the better the trick looks, regardless of whatever else you try to do.

Don't me wrong, I'm amped as hell that slopestyle is now in the Olympics. Half pipe is a dying event and no one really gives a damn about anything race oriented. It needs a lot of changes is all, and I can totally understand why some of the OG's in the game are pissed off.
Finally getting across to casual viewers that there is much, much more to the sport than Shaun (puke) White and the halfpipe is awesome.

It's too bad.

Pipe IS basically a "spin-fest" but that's just the event itself. Hence why a lot of snowboarders were vying to get slopestyle into the games because there's so much more depth to it. Beyond requiring a triple-cork off the jump(s) of course.
