Can't this kind of ruling be abused?

Possibly, but the refs can call delay-of-game and reward a penalty shot, if it looks like the goalie or a player purposely knocked the goalposts off to prevent a scoring opportunity. From Wikipedia:

According to NHL rules, various infractions during a breakaway that can lead to a penalty shot being awarded include: a goaltender deliberately dislodging a goal-post (delay of game),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penalty_shot_(ice_hockey)

Pretty sure IIHF rules have this covered too.

lol, hostility?

Brodka was lightning fast, well deserved victory. After Tuitert was pushed off I didn't expect a Dutch medal anymore. Verweij had the race of his lifetime but is now disappointed because the difference is a blink of an eye.

As a football fan, it's really weird that the same dude can take a shootout 6x in a row.
But that was an amazing match, glad i watched that instead of the 1500m.

It's weird for hockey fans too. NHL shootouts don't allow repeat players shooting until the entire roster shoots.

Dude I watch all world competitions. Shit is so intense. From fifa world cup, baseball caribbean and world games, hockey olympics, basketball olympics, etc. It's incredible. If USA goes down, im off to root for the underdog. Glad I set my alarm at 7:30 eastern to enjoy this.

Yep. Dude broke his leg skiing a few years back and looked DONE. Aren't sports just the best?

Thats so beautiful about the Olympics. There is a backstory behind a lot of the competitors. Yesterday there was the Brazillian woman on slopestyle skiing, she only did a single jump from the shortest ramp but crowd went insane.

Groothuis was in a depression and looked done a few years ago too. And now he's got Gold.

Stories like that are amazing and also inspirational as cheesy at it sounds.

We're all on the same wavelength. I too LOVE this kind of stuff. It IS heartwarming and inspiring, cheesey or not.

At least Verweij still has his glorious hair.
What if it was the useless dead weight of said glorious hair that let him lose by so little ?
Most epic hockey match just happened, let's talk about skating some more. Fucking NOS
It's really starting to get annoying. Seems like a speed skating world championship over here. Part of the fun of the Olympics is getting to see sports that are usually not covered as much :/

Well you're literally getting the best players of each country playing against each other, and actually trying unlike an All-Star game, so of course the play is high level as compared to a regular season game. But playoff hockey in the NHL is perhaps some of the best hockey you'll ever see.

Edit: Did you mean because it's played on the open/big international size arenas?
Well, in particular, people try to avoid taking stupid penalties because once you get out of the round robin phase, every single game matters. It's rough and physical play, but without some of the play that slows down at typical NHL (playoff) game. I mean, you're not going to bring up an AHL goon to play for you in the Olympics unless you are Latvia and you have no other choice.

Put it on NHL sized rinks and it is.
I can go either way on the bigger ice, but I do like how there's just more "flow" when the players have more space to roam.
