I think the judges are obviously seeing small things we aren't. The novice (most of us I'm guessing) see big jumps and no falls (butt or hands touches) and feel the scores should be higher.

Or the judges are just drunk I dunno. The CBC commentators have been surprised at some of the low scores as well.

My guess is the transitions between jumps are also important. Any shakiness or leaning or wobbles during the speed gathering sections. I bet it's all in play.
