The thing i dont get about some places is they make security bars/gates illegal. One of the stores in my old work (Victorville i think) used to get robbed like this consistently. It blew my mind when i found out that the gates we used to lock up the store are prohibited there.

Think about the neighborhoods with bars on the windows versus the neighborhoods without. Property value in the former is lower.
