THIS is kingdom hearts?

Boss battles/arena were swell. And all the bonus bosses in the endgame are nice too. It's the first part of the game that's such a slog.

Seriously do not listen to the Kingdom Heart haters, everyone should at least give this game a good try.

I'm probably going to try to rent it first - but I need some cover. Maybe I can bribe a kid to act as my son and have him sound really enthusiastic about playing the game.

I'm playing Kingdom Hearts right now, it's a great game.

My only complaints so far, from a technical stand point, is that some of the worlds are small and the camera is too close during combat.

Storywise, that's a matter of taste, I don't base a games merit's on story.

When my five year old comments "Why does he jump so dumb?" and "This game's pretty bad." then you probably ought to stay far away.

You should smack your kid. That video looks great. I just want to know more about the rest of the game.

Go ahead and buy it then, you'll see. It's $20 or less fer chrissake. Take the plunge instead of subjecting us to threads like this one.

edit: That guy sucks at fighting Sephiroth

don't buy the greatest hits. It doesn't have the foil cover. Also, if you're hardcore like me, you'll find the original brand new somewhere and pay over $50 for it :)

Hated this game to death.

But not HALF as much as I utterly loathed Quest 64.

The GBA KH was kinda neat since it fixed some of the PS2 game's problems. Story and character rehashing... not as cool, though.

Want to know more? Well, the vast majority of the game is spent exploring environments that redefine boring while fighting large groups of the same enemy OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. The most interesting locale in the entire game would be the very first island, but everything beyond that is straight trash. The combat itself isn't half bad, but the repetition of both enemies and environments totally kills any enjoyment. It's been such a long time since I last played the game, however, so I am unable to truly unleash my full rants. I'll just put it this way; I was anticipating the game greatly and it let me down to the point where I would call it the most disappointing game I've ever played. It's the one PS2 game that I own where I would use the word "hate" to describe it. Want an average Square-Enix "run around and slash things" game? Go play Musashi II or something. At least THAT game features somewhat interesting locations, amazing music, and less repetition. I'm not trying to suggest that Musashi II is a GOOD game, however, but rather, using it to highlight just how truly awful Kingdom Hearts is.

How does the combat in this game work? Is it more like KOTOR or Jade Empire? I fucking hate KOTOR-esque fighting.

Whut...did you even watch the video?

Yes, but that doesn't really show me what the player has to do to make all of that happen. If I watch the FFXI videos a friend of mine sends me from time to time, it makes it look like he's doing all the fighting, when he's mainly choosing what attacks and stuff to use, and then the game executes it for him. Is KH the same way?

KH is an Action-RPG. with some platforming here and there that's all.

Some?

(Mind, Kingdom Hearts is my guilty pleasure for this gen. I'm not hating, just pointing out the obvious.)

I think the KH games are very beautiful. Of course I tried the first about a year ago and got stuck and haven't touched it since. But as soon as I finish all the games I currently have on my plate (Especially with the holidays) I will be trying to go back in.

For the record, I got stuck in the hunt for Donald and Goofy. (Or whoever they are.) So at least I'll know where to pick up when I pull out the FAQ's. ;)

Also, I saw screenshots of KH2 and damned if that Steamboat Willy level doesn't look awesome.

Honestly if you don't like old school Disney then you'll most likely hate the game.

I thought it was one of the coolest gems this generation. The art was out of this world. The boss battles are f-ing awsome second only to Colossus IMO. The combat worked well especially when you get all those cool abilities. The story was pretty interesting too towards the end.

Personally though I like Disney and FFVIII characters so I didn't have any preconceived bias going in.

The end bosses in KH are worth trudging through the pretty average game before them. The first time I saw the end-game Aladdin fight I had a smile on my face from ear to ear

Kingdom Hearts is quite possibly the best game I've never finished.

Don't know WHY I never finished it, I guess I just got distracted and never went back.

I guess I'm out of the loop on this one... what the hell is this pic about? I need to know!

Its from KH?!?! I figured it to be from some PC shooter and was just some catch-all image, like the owls.

Dayam! Do a lot of the battles from kingdom hearts look like this? I saw the video while looking for advent children clips and if the rest of the game is like this, I might have to swallow my fear of disney-induced ridicule and rent or buy it. The action reminds me of like quest 64 with faster action.

I played it a couple of months ago for the first time and I was very disappointed. Bad platforming, bad camera, bad buddy ai (GOOFY FOR %@#$ SAKE DODGE AT LEAST ONE ENEMY ATTACK!).

Anyway... I want to try KH2 as well... but I think I'm a masoquist...

there are some problems with the game, but there are some really exceptional elements as well. as other people have said, you really have to try it for yourself. Opinions on the game run the gamut from AWESOME to meh, to utter shit. I fall somewhere between awesome and meh. I am a total lover of classic Disney animation and Square from the pre-FFIX era so most of the OMG moments were made specifically for me. And the game engine isn't so broken that it is unplayable, just frutrating at times (Though to all the haters in this thread, give me your favorite game and I'll point out broken mechanics in that as well). So it's just a question if the well done elements can compensate for the broken ones (Gummi Ship, camera, team AI being the most prominent broken parts and cool use of Disney and Square license, nice take on ARPG gameplay, and most bosses being the well done parts)

Wow, that guy really sucked and got really lucky too. Sephiroth didn't pull off his hp1, mp1 move. Which if you don't time using an elixer at the correct time, you're dead.
