This pandemic is creating a lot of competition online.

This pandemic has been quite something.

Pros, I get to work from home and don't have to see anyone. Being the introvert that I am, it has been a blessing.
Cons, movies and video game delays and most importantly... online competition.

Now with the stay at home order, there has been increased demand and limited stock of items online.
If I want to buy a blu-ray (I'm a physical owner), it gets sold out faster than usual, video games and console are sold out faster than usual.

It seems like there is greater competition now online for entertainment.

Anyone else finding that things online are selling out faster than usual and scalpers. Fuck scalpers, selling things for triple the price.

Yes. Production has slown (depends where you are and how much/how long) down and then there is the bigger issues of the increase in demand due to people being at home and looking at their same old boring stuff and that creates the want of replacement to better their homes.

Also corona created a consumption void of many non physical things that many people usually do and so they are looking for satisfaction elsewhere. It says a lot that the Xbox Series X is sold out in europe and japan and many other things are hard to get / take months to wait for them. I have friends that went straight from a 400$ budget PC for some light gaming every now and then to enthusiast high end PC lusting for a 900$ RTX 3080 custom card.

Moreover some of my friends seem to have this "yolo" mentality after hearing so much about corona and the deaths that came with it. I am not going to make a list of what a friend of mine bought this year, but it is pretty close to 10000$/€ of "this and that" for his home and none of it was remotely essential. People are hungry.

And yeah scalpers as well for limited items/hard to get items like Nvidia graphics cards and PS5.

This is what happens in times of hardhips and need. Only it’s the consumer society version. Be thankful that you still mostly feel the effects of this situation in a “first world problems” way and don’t have to fight for food on the black market while people die in the thousands in every big city everyday. Scalpers fetching high prices for something you don’t really need to live is business as usual, after all.

First time I noticed was today, my dog food on amazon cost 75% more. Ordered it at my alternative shop, less than usual. Weird.
